Chapter 241 of "The SSS Legendary Dragon Chose Me On Rebirth" opens presenting: Vacuse shook his head. "I can smell battle around here. Is there a way to... Don’t stop now!
Vacuse shook his head. "I can smell battle around here. Is there a way to get to the Mountain City without passing through this tunnel?"Yukata shook his head. "We have to go through the main tunnel."
Vacuse frowned. From the explosion he heard earlier, and from what his instincts were telling him, they would likely meet something nasty up ahead.
"Tell me about the politics of the Mountain City. Which gangs are dominant?"
"We have three dominant groups. We have the Ashveil Gang, the Glowhaven Outcasts, and finally the Bloodoak Union, which is made up of powerful gangs banding together."
"Do they still fight for dominance of the city?" Vacuse asked.
"Their days of fighting are long gone. Now they have defined territories in the city and hunting grounds throughout the rest of the mountains that belong solely to them. They don't fight like they once did, pulling the whole mountains into a bloodbath."
Vacuse frowned tightly. "Then there's nothing that can be done about it. Let's go."
They began to walk again, but more cautiously. Especially when they heard those distant explosions. What's more, the more they moved forward, the more people they met on the way. The side tunnels were filled with hunters and travelers who were forced to wait and set up camps.
Vacuse and his team heard the first rumors then. Two powerful hunter groups affiliated with different gangs in the city were fighting it out, and the gangs gave them their tacit approval.
"Well, this wasn't what I was expecting," Yukata admitted, his happiness at getting closer to the city wiped away by the news of battle.
Vacuse simply raised his brows from the soft pillow he was sitting on. They too had decided to set up a temporary camp by the side tunnel. They had already set up their normal standard camp with the shield and all. "I thought you said their gangs' fighting days are over."
Yukata scowled. "They've got powerful gangs in the same city. Of course, they still fight! But not directly—they use hunters, possibly disposable strong ones, to probe each other.
"But it's not a common thing. For them to fight now, they must have two hunter teams that are strong and yet they don't particularly care about."
Vacuse grunted and dug into his meat. He didn't like the fact that there was a blockage so close to the city that would signify the first half of their journey through the mountains.
He wanted to reach Umbracrypt as quickly as possible and remove the shadow of death that was hanging above his head through Lady Slave.
But now they had no choice but to wait and see which way the winds would blow.
And Vacuse did not like that at all. First, the place they were camping was bad—not in the environmental sense, but in the way people stared at them as if a fat chicken had just walked up to them.
Maybe it was because Vacuse was the only "merchant" around and the luxury he was displaying was so out of tune. Either way, they watched their camp with the intensity of people ready to strip feathers from a fat chicken.
"Lady Maraget, you have to stand guard all through. What? Why are you giving me that look? Aren't you the guard?" Although Vacuse was lying down, he was also meditating. It would be quite wrong if he were sitting with his legs crossed. He was supposed to be a merchant, after all. ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ ????????????????????•????????????????•????????????
Lady Slave grumbled, but she picked herself up and sat, laying her greatsword across her legs and glaring at everyone who looked their way.
After some hours, the distant explosions finally stopped, and some groups of hunters actually came down from the main tunnel carrying news that was enough to make the campers swarm them.
Vacuse and his team sat where they were and waited for the rumors that were certain to spread. And spread they did.
It turned out the new Dragon Hunters team was clashing with another team that apparently wanted to capture a dragon. The two groups were accusing each other of holding the dragon hostage.
It wasn't news that each hunter team was affiliated with one of the gangs in Mountain City.
When Vacuse heard the news, he couldn't help but stretch and roll his new bulk around. His eyes lit up with a light that was difficult to describe.
But the two that had been following him for some time shuddered when they saw it.
They knew things were about to get rowdy again.
And they weren't wrong. Vacuse immediately ordered them to pack up. They would be going to the Mountain City after all.
Everyone else in the camp thought they were insane for going toward where trouble lay instead of staying put and riding the trouble till the end.
But Vacuse gave them no thought as he began to hurry his team forward. Maybe he wouldn't have to focus on looking for his attendants after he dealt with Lady Slave and Umbracrypt after all.

They walked for hours, each step taking them closer to the explosions that had started again. Even the great tunnels couldn't hold it anymore, and stones began to fall from the far ceiling.
They walked some more, ignoring the looks of those fleeing from the main tunnel.
Suddenly Yukata paused and pointed at a section of the wall that looked just the same to Vacuse and Lady Slave. "We have reached Mountain City."
Vacuse blinked and looked up ahead. He didn't see anything that resembled a city, only more tunnel. "Is that so?" he said flatly.
"Yes! This is the boundary, and this marks the Mountain City. From here on, it belongs to the city. And from my memory, this particular main tunnel that leads to the city is controlled by the Ashveil Gang, as well as the surrounding branch tunnels."
"Oh?" Vacuse smiled. "Then the other gangs in Mountain City must control main and branch tunnels of their own. I think I know how this battle is happening."
