Simple. Vacuse would have to take risks. Dangerous ones that were very strange to him.Vacuse wasn't the type to take risks, but since this one might be tied to his life, he found it appropriate to try.
If he lost this chance of reuniting with his subordinates, then it was highly uncertain if he would get it back. And he was absolutely sure that he was going to need their help even more in the future.
That was the reason he wanted to take the risk.
A gamble to see if those on the other side were his allies or not. If they were, then he was sure they would come to get him, no matter the cost.
Lady Slave shook her head, looking at him with a worried expression. "I don't think they will let you leave here easily, my lord."
Vacuse snorted and waved his hand in dismissal. "Why won't they? I'm not involved in their problems here. You, get me something to eat. I'm getting hungry after all that walking!"
Yukata nodded and bowed, then began to prepare his master something to eat.

The grizzled Magus was having a headache.
He was only a Third Circle Magus, and his superior, a Fourth Circle Magus, had promptly given him the mission of dealing with the young lord.
Just as he expected, nobody liked dealing with nobility, even if they were Fourth Circle Magus. Maybe only their highest superior in the mountains at the moment, Magus Valthorne, could deal with him safely.
But it wasn't like they wouldn't do their job, because in the end, nobody wanted to deal with an angry Fifth Circle Magus either.
"What do you guys think?" the grizzled Magus growled to the four Second Circle Magus gathered around him.
"Well, from all interactions, and especially the one in the tent, we can say he's indeed a clueless young master. The other possibility is that he's very good at acting—very good," one of them said, pointing at the mirror on the table that faintly showed what was happening in the young master's tent.
Another Magus nodded. "I also agree with him. And if our prediction is correct based on his behavior, then he should request to be let go at any moment."
The grizzled Magus took a deep breath.
Their mission in the mountains was to capture the one who killed the dream monster. Anything beyond that wasn't allowed or tolerated. But at the same time, everything had to be done in ways that didn't step on toes. The Eboncrypt didn't want more enemies, and besides, they might be fighting an even bigger war later.
"I don't think anyone can recognize him. I've made up my mind. He will have to take off his glamour so we can see if he's not the one we're looking for. He can be allowed to do anything after that," the grizzled Magus declared.
"And if he doesn't allow you?" one of the Magus asked.
The grizzled Magus narrowed his eyes as his face hardened. "Then we'll have no choice but to detain him and crack the glamour. But I doubt he'll resist. Isn't he a young lord? He should know how things like this are done."

"I can't allow you," Vacuse said with a flat dismissal. He was sitting in the middle of the tent, a tray of roasted meat still on his lap.
It was the position they found him in when the grizzled Magus rushed in with four other Magus.
The Third Circle Magus looked as if he'd been forced to swallow something really unpleasant. His face twisted, and he couldn't keep his anger away. "What did you say? You can't do what?"
Vacuse picked up one of the roasted meats and noisily sucked on the bones while the others watched with different expressions. Finally, he put the bone down and licked his fingers clean. "Well then, I said I can't show you my identity. I am a lord; what right do you have to ask such a thing from me?"
The grizzled Magus forced the words out of his mouth. "The situation that we, the Eboncrypt Magus, have found ourselves in is quite peculiar, and as such, we request that you follow our suggestions." Check latest chapters at ????????????????????✶????????????????✶????????????
"What's my business if you are Eboncrypt or Umbracrypt? You two academies always act as if you're some big deal. Well, to me, you're nothing but two organizations thirsty for power—just like everyone else. Or is this a declaration of war?" Vacuse's black eyes shone with a malicious light.
The grizzled Magus froze and then rapidly cursed internally. This was the problem with not knowing the true identity of the other person. Were they someone the academy could easily offend, or even crush?
His headache increased.
But orders were still orders.
"I am sorry, young lord, but we must see your identity before you can be allowed to leave," he said firmly, and the air around him changed, turning hard.
Vacuse's eyes sparkled. It seemed the Magus were now determined to see it through to the end. He leaned forward. "And if I don't allow you?"
The tension in the small tent increased, especially when Lady Slave suddenly put her hand on the handle of her sword.
The grizzled Magus stared unblinking. "Then we would be forced to crack the glamour. It would take time, but we'll do it, and we'll know your true identity. What happens after that depends on who you are!"
The tension in the tent reached a new high as the two stared unblinking at each other, neither willing to bend. Lady Slave and Yukata tensed, ready for danger, while the Magus looked as if they had spells just on the tips of their tongues.
Just then, Vacuse suddenly leaned back and laughed. It was a warm laugh that shook his belly. He slapped himself on the lap, almost sending the tray flying.
The tension in the room turned to confusion.
Vacuse smiled at the grizzled Magus. "I believe we can come to a conclusion."
