Chapter 141 - 141: Still Wind

Grand Duke Drenvar and Duke Frexon are both in the same advancement stage of Deepbonded Resonant, the fourth stage. But what set them apart like heaven and earth was that one of them was an S ranked and the other an A. Drenvar raised his sword high above his head, his face strangely solemn. "This is a sword made from the bones of a Dragon. One of the strongest Dragons in Vorrakyn. "The Blood Dragon!" As if just mentioning that caused the sword to begin stirring, it glowed deeply and took the color of fresh blood that caused a shockwave of rolling colors to spin in the air and winds to howl beneath. Duke Frexon's eyes widened because he suddenly felt an intense sense of danger. "What... is that sword?" But Drenvar had no time to answer, his face was cold as he shouted. "Awake! Blood Dragon!" Booooooooom! The sound like two mountains nodding echoed out from the sword, a sound strong enough to shake the bones of weaker opponents and make them throw themselves down in subversion. Then the sword lit up with a sword beam light that pierced the heavens! And the red beam was instantly the brightest color around, so intense it made everything for miles pale and drew all attention. But what was more, the beam was surrounded by a coiling protection of a red dragon. The Dragon's eyes were closed but then it suddenly opened its eyes and stared at Duke Frexon. Bam! Something seemed to explode inside his head and his mind reeled as if he had looked at something he should not have! He swayed and looked as if he would directly drop from the sky. Drenvar looked at the Duke coldly and brought down his sword. The Dragon opened its wings and roared as the sword fell, moving so fast it became a streak of light that even Duke Frexon, an S ranked Deepbonded Resonant, could not block. Duke Frexon Sevrix screamed and his body surged with blinding green light that formed a shield around him to block the sword. The sword fell like a Dragon's angry claw, shattered the shield, and hit the Duke in an explosion of fire, blood, and heat. The attack continued to cut downward and carved a straight line in the battlefield below, sending bodies flying. Duke Frexon fell from the sky, still in his shifted form but his body was smoking as if he had been dragged through a lake of fire. "He's not dead even when I used the strongest attack this sword can unleash. He's truly incredible," there was a hint of respect in his voice as Drenvar watched him fall. But then he snorted and watched the battlefield where his army was starting to get crushed as the powers of the opposing battle formations and war constructs were fully used. "I'll buy time." With that he shot forward, turning into a red streak in the distance. There are lots of contexts where there is a battle between Soulbearers armies. The biggest of all that could turn the tide absolutely were the War Artifacts. They could render fighting even useless. The second is the battle formations and then the war constructs. Those last two things are tied with the numbers of highest ranked Soulbearers that each army has. Right now, Drenvar was targeting the war constructs and the battle formations! In a blink he had flown so high into the sky that he was hidden by the clouds. Then he reached where he was going and dived down like a red Dragon. Directly from above the battle formations! All the formation guards saw was a red streak and then darkness. Sword light flashed from the sword and a torrent of fire drowned the nearby formations. He was about to fly to the next one when a cold voice stopped him. "So I will be the one to kill the Dragon Lord. You come here while you are so weak? If you are not toying with death I do not know what you are doing! "Thank you for giving me this honor!" A man floated to the side of Vacuse, an old man that wore a green robe with a red leaves pattern. In the blink of an eye he took Duke Frexon's shifted form and he emitted the pressure of an S ranked! Drenvar looked at him. "Elder from the Red Leaves." Then without any hesitation he flew at the old man, his sword leading. The difference between S ranked and A ranked is like the difference between the heavens and the ground, but those differences could be filled by things of incredible rarity. And one of those things was the sword in Drenvar's hand! The old man realized his mistake and his eyes widened. He began backing away, the energy around him spinning wildly. "You tricking lizard!" The first thing the old man did was create a great deal of distance between them and then he reassessed his opponent. His eyes narrowed. "Roughly the same power level as mine with that sword in his hand. "Then... I will have to bring everything I have out in one go!" This is how the fight between two equally matched opponents usually ends. Why fight it out when they can both go all out from the start and pick things up from where it ends? The old man gritted his teeth. The Beast Mantis Pathway has two core powers, speed and severing. There are very few things it could not cut, even magical threads and connections would be severed. So when the old man raised his hand and pointed his clawed finger at Drenvar, a giant spinning blade of green wind appeared above him so fast that it was as if it were standing still in the form of a three clove leaf! His robe fluttered wildly around him and a tornado sprung to life beneath him, smashing other Soulbearers on the ground to bits, howling as dust and gore were lifted up. But he ignored all of that as his eyes were fixed pointedly on Drenvar. "This is one of the highest techniques of our Pathway. It is called Still Wind!"
