Chapter 48: Spoiled bratRith saw it all happen. He scowled. ’..brat, stop!..’ There were two reasons for his shouting. The first was the fact that all the Dragon Guard are obviously powerful, and even his speed couldn’t match theirs. So. Why aren’t they stopping Vacuse? There must be something wrong for them to leave him alone like that while he rushed forward. They could easily overpower him without hurting him. It was almost like a test. Rith flared his wings and dug his nails into Vacuse’s shoulder. ’..Stop!..’ Vacuse stopped grinning, and he slowed down, dragging his feet on the ground to stop himself from crashing into the guards. ’..what’s it, Rith..’ Rith’s voice was serious. ’..think, you arrogant brat, why are they not stopping you? They’re obviously much stronger than you. They can stop you without disobeying their orders. What are they up to?..’ Vacuse blinked. ’..fuck, why didn’t I think it through?..’ ’..Because you don’t think! The mad heir just went from madness to thoughtful in a few seconds? Just what is happening? And why was he looking at his Dragon like that? "Oh? Dragons sure are impressive. You are even able to communicate at this stage." A voice suddenly rose into the air. Everyone present stiffened. It wasn’t just because the voice sounded like something that came from a dead thing. It was the uncovered hostility and hatred that filled the voice. Vacuse looked up in shock. He’d never heard the voice before in his life. Just who? The surrounding guards parted, and then as one, they turned, together with the captain, and bowed. Very low. Vacuse was getting more surprised. Apart from Drenvar, there are very few people that the proud Dragon Guard members would bow to. Vacuse’s eyes narrowed down the hallway. "And it’s a cute Dragon too. It’s really hard to imagine that something as small as this is the SSS. This thing looks like a pet, and its master like a spoiled kid. How low the Vorrakyn has fallen." The voice rang in the air. Vacuse felt a chill, and he was stunned when the Dragon around his neck suddenly raised his head and hissed, nails digging sharply into his shoulder, and the emotions that flooded him at that time from Rith were that of fear and anger. ’..danger! This man is dangerous! Get away from him, brat!..’ Vacuse took a step back as he looked at the man. At first, the only thing he saw were two red eyes that hung in the air like glasses, glowing at him. Then he noticed that it wasn’t just red eyes, he saw the shape of a short, thin man that was wrapped in a cloak as dark as darkness. An oppressive aura surrounded the man in such overwhelming force that it seemed to cause the temperature to rise in the hallway. All the guards stiffened and took a step back, their faces sharp with alertness as they sensed the danger. Vacuse felt his insides tremble. He couldn’t help it. The last time he felt fear being so close to someone was when he was with the Void Dragon during the pathway rite. "What?" Vacuse was so caught off by surprise that he could only stare. Rith hissed, eyes narrowed. The eyes looked at Vacuse from head to toe, scorn practically dripping from them. "I thought something special fell into the family, and it’s this? A spoiled brat. Father’s toy." Vacuse blinked, and even though he knew the person was trying to get a rise from him, he couldn’t help his blood from shimmering as anger flowed through him. "Who the fuck are you?" The man removed the hood from his head and showed his face. His face was pale as if he could be seen through, his ears were long, and his head hairless. He looked like a very sick person with the way his flesh was warped on his bones. "Me? A very disappointed person. I thought we’d finally seen something new in the family, but it’s the same old." Vacuse narrowed his eye. The fear he felt was slowly getting replaced by anger, but he didn’t get close to the man. "I have never given enough fucks if you are disappointed or not." The man snorted. "At least your mouth isn’t as useless as you, spoiled brat. Throwing his father’s name around because he couldn’t gain enough power to make things happen on his own." The tension between them spiked in an instant. What made it worse for Vacuse was that he had no idea who the man was. With those red eyes, it was sure that he is a Vorrakyn, but he didn’t know exactly who he is and what his position is. And yet he was getting humiliated. Spoiled brat? ’..I worked hard for where I am now, you bastard!..’ Vacuse gritted his teeth and held his words back. He was angry, not stupid. With the way the man was talking to him, it was obvious that he must have a high status in the family, enough that he didn’t fear Drenvar, and the Dragon Guard gave him the highest respect. The man shook his head with a low sigh and turned around. "That’s what I thought. Just keep shut and do as you’re told. Now, go to your room and wait for orders on when to leave." Suddenly Vacuse remembered what Rith said about him underestimating his enemies. His eye widened. "It’s you!" "You gave them the orders of not letting me out of the room." But what Vacuse didn’t understand was if the man was working on Drenvar’s orders or not. The man gave a low mocking clap. "Good. At least your brain is not that dull."
