Chapter 38: Clash of dominanceVacuse was getting tired of the bullshit. His eyes hardened and he took a step forward. His soul space rolled with power that threatened to boil out. It surged through his blood and filled his bone marrow, leaving him slightly shaking. Rith on his shoulder coiled tighter, and his eyes turned to fix on Amon. ’..should I kill him?..’ Rith’s voice slid into his mind like a cold sword, and Severin blinked. ’..you can do something like this?..’ he instinctively asked in his mind. ’...I’m a Dragon. There’s little I can’t do..’ the scornful voice said. Vacuse smiled. ’..you’re only a horn of a Dragon though. And don’t kill him, the annoying bastard is going to get done in by me..’ He nodded and spoke out loud. "Very well, Amon. I accept whatever you want to do, but that’ll be after I get the rank of my beast registered." Amon snorted coldly and said in a mocking tone, "What difference would it make? Go on, show the world the rank of the beast you carry!" Vacuse didn’t bother replying. He raised his hand and placed it on the cool surface of the orb. Nothing happened. ’Eh... Rith... do you think it’s wise to show off like this?’ Vacuse ignored all the looks that were directed at him and instead looked at the Dragon around him. Rith snorted and turned to look at him. ’..are you asking a Dragon to hide its strength? You are a Dragon now, boy. The world is in your claws! Don’t dishonor this bloodline..’ Vacuse, who had perfect control of his Force, had not let even a drop into the orb. Even as the power growled and howled inside him, he held it back perfectly. But now, he smiled. And he let it all out. Amon was on the edge of laughing. "He can’t even summon enough power to work the...." Suddenly a rumble came from the orb that was akin to the cracking of thunder. The man that was in charge of the orb flinched backward with a cry of surprise. But before anyone could even ask what was happening, the orb shattered, and darkness spilled forth with a ripple of shockwave and overpowering aura. The potent aura surged forth like hungry wolves and slammed into all the people standing like a hammer to the gut. The new candidates were hit first, and they dropped to the ground with loud gasps. The warriors and knights standing guard against the wall snapped into attention as the aura hit them. It felt as if they were on the battlefield, and they unleashed their own aura in return. Baleful energy filled the room so fast, and all the weak Soulbearers dropped to the ground one by one, some of them even fainting. Screaming filled the hall as vicious wind generated by the Void energy spread like a formless tornado. On his throne, Drenvar couldn’t feel it as those that were below the platform because the throne he was sitting on dispelled it. But his face was filled with shock, his eyes wide to near popping. But it was different for Duke Frexon, who was standing so close. Green energy erupted from him and subconsciously, his hand changed. Green shell formed above his skin and his fingers turned into sharp hooking blades. He had half shifted without even trying to! The level of danger he was feeling was that much. "What is this! What the fuck!" And in the middle of it all was Vacuse Vorrakyn. His left eye was red while the other was bright purple. He grinned, his hair whipping around him like a shroud of darkness. "What level of dominance is this!" Duke Frexon shouted, and he was getting blown back bit by bit by the unleashed energy. And then, as if Vacuse’s energy had realized who the strongest in the room was, it pounced towards the Duke. Duke Frexon gritted his teeth and shouted. He couldn’t help it anymore. Green energy erupted from his body, his skin darkened to a green shade and thickened into shell. Translucent wings formed behind him, and his leg bones cracked and rejoined in seconds. His hands grew blood red blades that curved wickedly. He now stood there, a combination between a man and a mantis. Behind him, the space shuddered and rippled, and his beast appeared. A mantis with translucent wings that looked like a butterfly. The mantis turned to Vacuse and let out a screeching roar, sending its own dominance aura forward. The two clashed with a booming sound that shattered the ground and sent dust flying. Vacuse took several steps back as he was pushed. His instincts screamed at him as the Duke and his beast approached. Danger. Very dangerous danger! Vacuse turned to the beast on his shoulder and grimaced. The dominance from the Duke was shooting into his body painfully. He really didn’t want to fight the man. "Eh.. maybe we want to tone it down a little? He’s going to fold us into two!" Rith shot him a sullen look, and Vacuse got the expression that it was scowling. ’..this is the nature of Dragons! We immediately go after the strongest and eat their heads!..’ Vacuse took several steps back from the Duke. He knew that right then, what he had was incredible potential. He was still a baby Dragon. Fighting the Duke is just courting death in a unique way. Rith seemed to sense that as well, because the Dragon stood up and flexed its claws, digging into Vacuse’s shoulder. ’..this is going to be painful for a couple of days..’ Vacuse’s eyes went wide. "Wait.. what!" ’...I’m going to use your body to perform a technique that you haven’t learned and you can’t handle right now...’ Just as Rith finished speaking in his mind, his claws digging into Vacuse seemed to grow longer and drilled into his body. The power that was raging through him calmed and stopped immediately. The ominous aura vanished. At the same time, Vacuse felt the full force of Duke Frexon’s power as it slammed into him, so much so that his bones shook and his legs trembled. If it continued for a few seconds more, Vacuse would be a crumbled heap on the ground.
