And there are more terrifying things out there that you don’t want to meet." "You have been chosen by a Legendary SSS Dragon and I want to make a Bound with you. Leave it at that." Vacuse thought it over, then he shook his head. One important thing he’d learned in his previous life was to never leave things as they were. Especially things that he had little power against. The powerful would always plot and scheme. They move the weak around their chessboard as they will. And the Dragon that he was looking at looked like a powerful. He brought him here without warning and now wanted to make a Bound with him? Vacuse crossed his hands on his chest. He had already reached the SS. He wasn’t desperate for a Bound. A Legendary SSS Dragon? Hump! He shook his head and said flatly, "Sorry, Lord Dragon. But I want to know everything. If I am to have you as my Bound, then I won’t go into things rashly." Even though Vacuse didn’t feel any temperature, he could swear that things just got colder. The Dragon frowned, angry lines appeared on his face and his eyes flashed. "Brat. You are in my territory. I can kill you before you can blink. You are chosen, that is all." Vacuse blinked. He’d never heard of a situation like this before. Usually, the intelligent beasts set tests or suchlike to know if their partner is worthy. But not straight up threaten to kill them! He took a deep breath and did the most dangerous thing in his new life. "You can’t." "What?" the Dragon snapped. Vacuse continued, his heart beating fast and his gut clenching. "You can’t kill me. If you could, then you wouldn’t have forced me in the first place. I think, you wouldn’t even be in chains! You would have killed me already! "Even this human form you are projecting, it’s taking you too much to maintain, right?" The Dragon narrowed its eyes. "Have you forgotten the power that brought you here?" Vacuse stiffened, and without a change in his expression he made a guess. Everything he was saying was based on the things he knew about Dragons. They are powerful and arrogant, selfish and self-centered unless someone is part of their treasures. Arrogance that came with the power they have. They would rather suffer in silence than lower themselves, and although the Dragon before Vacuse hadn’t done anything so shameless, it’s been trying to use its power and might to bully him into doing what it wanted. But why doesn’t the Dragon just show the power and might? Instead, it’s been saying it. It gave Vacuse the confidence to continue. "That power is likely something you have been accumulating for years. And you used it to force me here." The two of them stared at each other after Vacuse finished speaking. The space between them seemed charged with invisible sparks. Eventually, though, it was the Dragon that looked away with a slight dejected look on his face. "I hate smart people." Vacuse didn’t say anything, he simply watched. The Dragon continued. "Very well. I am sealed here. This is a prison for me, in my own realm! Long ago, when I still ruled part of the human world and this place, I got into a fight with someone stronger and this is the result." "Who?" Vacuse asked. But he shook his head. "You can’t know him yet." His tone carried finality that Vacuse was forced to respect. So instead he asked, "What is this place?" "This is Void. I was once the ruler of Void before I was pushed from my throne. Most of my powers stripped and scattered around. I am known as the Void Dragon." Vacuse digested the information slowly. Void? It’s not a common power, but he could see that it’s a powerful one. It must be for the Dragon to be SSS. But Vacuse also looked at it from another angle. "If I become your Bound, then I will inherit your enemies." Void Dragon snorted. "Brat! The human world is a chessboard for we Beasts to play and attack. Do you think we Bound with you just from the goodness of our hearts? Do you think summons just answer summoners because they have nothing to do? Think, Brat! The world is all about what you are willing to sacrifice to get what you want." "You want honesty? I’ll tell you. You will inherit my enemies, but you will also inherit my powers. We will share it. I will help your ambition and you will help mine." Vacuse narrowed his eyes. The true essence of the Pathway was laid before him. For intelligent, powerful beasts, there is always something they want and it’s the Soulbearer’s job to help them in realizing it. "So... Void Dragon. What do you want?" The Legendary SSS Void Dragon smiled. "I want revenge. I want my powers back and I want to reach higher than that. I once stood at the pinnacle of what a Dragon should be, but now I want to reach higher. "Brat! There is always a higher peak compared to the tallest mountain. I will reach it!" Vacuse’s heart beat harder and faster. He realized then that his own ambition might be considered even less when compared to the likes of the being before him, but he wasn’t worried because it was his. His ambition that was born through blood and pain. "Then I will reach what a human can reach even if they tread the path to power," Vacuse said. And he silently added it to the ones he had before. Void Dragon laughed. "Brat! I see the fire in your eyes. Very well, I will lay your path to power." Vacuse became solemn. "Then, will your enemies come for me when I’m not yet strong?" Void Dragon smiled. "Worry not. They are too high to notice someone so low. If you want to get their attention, then you must climb higher, Brat!"
