Chapter 43: Do what you want..."You can do what you want," Drenvar said. Vacuse hissed a smile. "..I can do what I want? What if I want your head, eh, dear father.." Vacuse turned to the room and his eyes locked on Amon. The guy that wanted his life. To be very honest, he had no initial beef with the guy until he threatened his life. But then again, it would be a silly mistake to leave him alive when the guy wanted what Vacuse has. "Amon. You said you want my life, yes? You can come and have it," Vacuse said, his voice hard, coldness. The room stirred and they turned to look at Amon, whose face was ashen. He glanced at Duke Frexon but the man ignored him. "I... that is... I didn’t mean...!" "Enough!" Vacuse shouted and his voice resonated in the hall. He began to walk toward Amon slowly. "Where’s your dignity as a Vorrakyn? Why are you stampeding? Stand by your word! You want my life? Then you can have it, if you are strong enough to take it." Amon flinched. The arrogance he displayed earlier was gone, and what remained was fear as he looked at Vacuse with his single red eye that glared at him. "Eh.. what I wanted to say..." Vacuse didn’t let him finish. With a cold snort, he shot forward, power filling his limbs in such a way that he left behind afterimage as he immediately appeared in front of Amon, his aura dark and vicious. On instinct, Amon struck out with a punch but Vacuse caught it easily and then he bent the hand as if he was playing with a dried stick. Crack! His hand was broken by the elbow and Amon let out a loud scream and jerked back forcefully, the action ripping his hand clean. Blood splattered and the horror of touching his own bloody stump made Amon stagger back with painful whimpers. Vacuse threw the hand to the side. The smell of blood made his mouth water strangely and got his blood pumping. He took a step forward, almost subconscious, and his red eyes seemed more bloody red, like a starving beast. Amon panicked and that made his own powers stir, and even though he didn’t know what he was doing, he gathered bright red energy that turned into three sharp crystals and then flung them at him. The crystals were lightning fast but with the power currently flowing within Vacuse, he avoided them easily. "You really are a genius, Amon. Why do you let yourself get used like this?" He was in front of Amon again. Amon created another crystal, but this one was spear-like and he thrust it at Vacuse’s heart. Vacuse caught it, broke it, and then he shoved it in Amon’s shoulder. He let out a horrible scream again, his voice and his loud breathing the only sound in the silent room. Vacuse’s hand reached out and his fingers dug into the wounded shoulder. Then he tore the flesh away, stripping it from the bones, and then he gripped the bones and dragged Amon close until their faces were inches apart. Everyone was looking. Good. Let them look. It was exactly what Vacuse wanted. He needed to set an example of how he would deal with his enemies. It was now left to them to decide if they want to be his enemy or ally. It was that simple. Just then, Rith’s voice came to his mind, hissing. ’..Brat, why do you pull your enemy so close, it’s the perfect place to strike back!..’ Just as he said that, a gleam appeared in Amon’s eyes, piercing through the pain that clouded his mind. His body shuddered and then the front of his chest was filled with red light that throbbed once, blinding bright, that was on the verge of explosion. But then. The light stopped, gutted away, and faded into nothing. Amon stared at his chest in shock. Vacuse smiled and looked down as well. "I thought you want to blast me into oblivion?" Amon tried to speak but only wet breath left his mouth. To onlookers, they wouldn’t see anything wrong with Amon’s chest. It was perfectly fine. His cloth was alright. Then what exactly was wrong with him? Rith tilted his head. ’..brat... how do you do that without any training..’ Vacuse spoke out loud. "I am the best at controlling energy." As he drew Amon close earlier, Vacuse had tried to form a spear with his void energy but he found out that controlling the force is far different from controlling his void energy. It had resisted him, and to make it worse, he could barely feel the energy he was controlling, but at least he was able to form a small needle dart that he sent at Amon’s chest, directly into his heart. Amon struggled to speak but his eyes were pleading. Vacuse’s hand went to his neck and he gripped it. He wrapped his hand around it and then jerked. He used all his strength and with a loud wet crack and ripping sound, he tore the head from the neck. But it wasn’t a clean tear that Vacuse wanted, so some of the bloody spine still connected the head to the twitching body. Vacuse dropped it and turned to face the room. They looked at him and he looked back. They saw the blood dripping from his hand and they saw his strength. They knew he could have killed Amon easily but he chose to drag it out. Something only the strong could do to the weak. And even though they were all new Soulbearers and none of them fought that much with the magic techniques they just gained, the difference was still there. A shiver passed through the room. Vacuse turned to face the Duke. The enemy that tried to kill him in the forest and even during the pathway rite. His blazing red eye seemed to say, ’I will be coming for you next.’ The Duke smiled, his eyes soft, and it seemed to be saying, ’I will be waiting.’
