Chapter 39: Void Dragon, SSS Rank.Duke Frexon seemed as if he was about to leap, the ground beneath him cracked as he exerted strength, but it was at that moment that the technique that Rith talked about happened. Vacuse’s purple eye, the right one, throbbed and lit with a brilliant light. And then, as if the eye was a door to a place completely different, darkness began to spill out. But this darkness was different. In a blink of an eye, it covered the whole hall, and when it settled, everyone was forced into silence. The screaming, the shouting, all faded away, and the hall took on a look of black and white, as if all the colors in the world had been washed away. Duke Frexon paused. He raised his head and looked around him, the pincher that grew by the sides of his mouth opened and closed. "Something is wrong." Everyone still conscious felt it as well. It was as if they’d been dragged into a place that was not their world. Their eyes went wide as an unspeakable feeling of doom settled on them. Just then, the space above Vacuse shuddered and twisted. Something was trying to come out of the empty space. And it did. A single, slitted purple eye, the size of a carriage, opened. And stared at the world. Immediately it opened, a mountain-shaking force fell to the hall. It drilled into the body of everyone present, even the Duke and Dragon Lord. And then, without question, it forced them to their knees in absolute dominance. It was as if they were in the presence of a higher being. Duke Frexon faced the eye and howled at it, his beast roaring and screeching. Green energy flickered to life around them, so potent and strong that the ground around the Duke crumbled into dust, and a large crater was formed. But that didn’t help him. The eye stared at him with a condemning look, and the Duke fell to his knees. His beast flickered and disappeared, and the energy around him was drained away. Even the half shift he was using was wiped away, leaving the shocked man staring up at Vacuse and the eye. The Vorrakyn family had it even worse. Immediately the eye appeared, their blood boiled, and they fell to their knees without resisting. It was as if something deep within them recognized and acknowledged power that stood above them. Vacuse was the only one that remained standing in the hall. The silence was absolute, and so was the obedience. Every aura had been wiped clean. Vacuse stared at the beasts around him in shock. "What...?" Rith swayed, his eyes flickering. "..this is your birthright, Vacuse Vorrakyn. Even I, the Void Dragon, cannot touch this. Only mankind can have it. And now, it is yours.." Nothing made sense, and for Vacuse, that was assured in his past, that was assured that he knew a lot of information, he felt as if he had been thrown out on an edge. "Explain yourself, Rith!" Rith shook his head. "..It’s not yet..." Vacuse’s eyes hardened. "Bullshit. Is this your way of holding something above my head, Void Dragon? Is this why you chose me in the first place?" Rith didn’t speak for a long time. "No. It’s just that, this is a way of activating it. But you must know, the Dragon comes before the egg. There are things that must be done before you can enter the storm that is far more dangerous than you think. If you don’t want to be shredded, then you have to train, climb the rank of the Soulbearer, then you can be absolutely ready." Vacuse didn’t say anything, but he realized then that what he didn’t know was much more than he knew. Just as he was thinking about it, the eye above flickered and shuddered. Then closed. As it closed, the hold it had on the room disappeared. Vacuse felt a sharp pain in his right eye, and when he raised his hand to it, he touched something warm and wet. Blood. He frowned when he realized that his right eye had closed as well, and no matter how he tried, he couldn’t open it. "..leave it. The eye will heal in a matter of days.." Rith said. Vacuse nodded, and then he finally looked at the hall. Without question, everyone was looking at him. From the Vorrakyn to the vassals, to the Orcs and every important person invited. They looked at him with fear and shock. Drenvar picked himself from the ground, his movement was slow, and there was a conflicted emotion on his face as he stared at Vacuse. Hate, anger, awe, resentment, and a hint of fear appeared before his face closed off coldly. Vacuse watched him, his single red eye glinted, and then he turned away. His eye flickered over Duke Frexon and settled on Among, who trembled and shook. Nobody said anything. Vacuse then looked at the man that was closest to him, the man in charge of the orb. He smiled. "Well? What’s the rank of my Beast? The orb broke, but I’m sure you must have seen it." His voice seemed to break the strange spell that was laid over the room as everyone shook and stood up. The man rushed to his feet, trembling like a leaf as he turned to Vacuse, and then he looked at Drenvar. The man’s face showed fear and amazement as he moved far from Vacuse. The people’s attention was now on the man because he was behaving in a very weird way. They sucked in sharp breaths as they waited for him to call the rank. "I..." The man shook his head. "The rank from... is... the..." The man took a deep breath, and a firm look appeared in his eyes. "Vacuse Vorrakyn! Void Dragon, SSS Rank!" There was a pause of static shock that spread out into the room. And then the hall erupted into loud whispers. Exclamations rang in the room, and everyone had something to say, even if all they had to do was gasp out.
