Chapter 142 - 142: Half a Step

Drenvar smiled for the first time.Although he was the Dragon Lord and the Grand Duke, everyone knew that it meant not as much as it should mean, not even close. The Vorrakyn were weak. And that caused Drenvar to be cautious. So much so that he had never actually gone all out with anyone! That was why he was smiling when he saw the Elder use his highest level technique! Drenvar also used his own. The sword in his hand burst into fire but instead of the normal flame, what covered the sword was a red fire. The same fire caught on his skin, turning his body into molten redness in a blink. The red fire burned with such intensity that the very air surrounding him seemed to burn off as he created a space of absolute heat around himself. A halo of red bands appeared above his head and when it sprang to life the heat that followed was abysmal. The clouds above his head were burned away as if a fire god had looked at the spot, and the ground underneath him was now covered in the ashes of the warriors caught in it. The ground had melted into running red. At that moment, it was as if Drenvar was a pillar of fire that touched both heaven and earth. Drenvar smiled joyfully. "This is my trump card!" The Elder's face widened in shock. "You... you are one step into the Sovereign Ascended stage!" The Sovereign Ascended is rare and difficult to reach. The fifth stage, the beginning of a whole world of difference between the stages, and not many people could reach it. Even in the long history of the Vorrakyn, not many of their Dragon Lords reached it. But the power of True Dragons was just that terrifying, their power undeniable. Drenvar knew he could not change the rank of his Drake but what he could do was try to reach the highest of the highest he could in the advancement stage. And the main difference between the other stages and the Sovereign Ascended is that Soulbearers would begin to study the Laws and Authorities of the Force. They would form and twist concepts, Laws, and Authorities of the type of Force and magic they were practicing to make it their own. So even though Drenvar was not a full Sovereign Ascended, the fact that he was already taking a step into it shocked everyone on the battlefield as they realized that the Dragon Lord had pulled a fast one on everyone. Even Vacuse was shocked because it was not something that had happened in his previous life! The Elder did not hesitate to release his built up power and then turned to flee! Still Wind crossed the distance in a blink but Drenvar did not bother to dodge. He opened his mouth, his eyes flashing with an anger that seemed to devour all, and shouted. "Devouring Fire!" Still Wind was filled with the power to cut all things and the Elders had used the same technique to cut down a lot of Soulbearers equal in rank to him! It was an extremely powerful technique. But as it entered Drenvar's space, the technique melted away like butter and did nothing more than flutter his eyebrows. That said, Drenvar grunted as he felt his internal organs quiver and shake from the shockwave of the attack. "An S ranked is an S ranked even when they are almost a whole world below." Then he raised his head and turned into a streak of firelight that chased after the Elder. What had just happened shook the whole battlefield and gave the Vorrakyn morale. "Dragons!" "Dragons!" "Dragons!" The whole battlefield had turned chaotic. A lot of Soulbearers had taken to the air to start fighting. The war constructs and battle formations were displaying their overwhelming power, most especially against the Vorrakyns. But two types of units on the battlefield showed their capacity. The first was the Wing Brigade, their charge had rarely been broken as they shattered defenses and cut down enemies before they were locked into a confrontation by the Bloodied Leaves. The others were the Dragon Guards. With no Dragon Lord to guard they had been charged to cause chaos on the battlefield and they showed why they were once regarded as the strongest in the Western Region and one of the most powerful in the Empire. Maybe their glory days were over but the shadow of it was still terrifying as each powerful Soulbearer in the Dragon Guards did battle. But although the Vorrakyn were strong in spirit, they were simply at a disadvantage. The Elders of the Red Leaves had taken to the battlefield themselves and now they left trails of easy destruction in their wake. With all of that combined, it seemed the Vorrakyn might actually get destroyed! And even though the Red Leaves would pay some prices, it seemed they were willing to pay! But strangely enough, Vacuse did not seem worried. His eyes were purple as he used Dragon's perception to observe everything. What Drenvar did had caused him shock. It was something he did not expect because it had not happened in his past life. "...I guess things will not be the same as my past life anymore... from now on I will have to use my head really hard..." The future had changed in an unpredicted way because a large scale war like this had not happened as well. "Vacuse... we might actually have to leave here. From the looks of it, things are going to turn bad," Kagerou said. His face was grim as he watched the battlefield. He had never seen that much blood in his life. "For a moment there I thought the Dragon Lord would turn things around but well..." Vacuse did not say anything. Instead, he raised his hand and pointed. A beam of green light had shot up into the air. It was the irritated and angry Duke Frexon with half his face burnt. He shouted with a voice like thunder. "All Elders to me! We are going to hunt the Dragon Lord!"
