Chapter 101: Jellyfish

The howls felt like small blades digging into flesh as they erupted out of the hounds’ mouths. Everyone was stunned by the sudden turn of events. "What the..." Kagerou began, but he didn’t finish, because the hounds turned their heads towards his direction, the direction that Vacuse was standing together with the captain. Without hesitation, the Alpha let out a short bark and then exploded forward in a rush of raging anger. But they didn’t quite reach them as the air was suddenly filled with the thumping of energy blasts. The Demon Guards already formed a wall in front of Vacuse and the captain, and with their hands raised, their eyes flashed with power that shot forward like arrows. Cracking sounds filled the air as lightning, pure energy bolts, and fire tore forward and slammed into the hounds. The Alpha turned mid-flight and bounced away, but not all of its pack members were that fortunate. Lightning tore into the fire wave and turned its body to shreds. The next was met with a wall of flame that instantly turned it to ashes. And when the pure energy bolt hit two of the hounds, they howled painfully as their bodies melted within three breaths. The Alpha hound could only stare in astonishment, as without waiting, the Dragon Guards unleashed another barrage of attacks that killed another set of the pack. The rest instantly moved back, growling. Most of the hounds that died were in the second stages, and normally, they should have been able to easily kill Soulbearers in the same second stage since monsters are more powerful on average. The same was the Soulbearers, Dragon Guards that attacked the hounds. They are in the second stage, and yet, they easily overpowered the monsters. But then again, the Dragon Guards were known as elite forces. Vacuse nodded solemnly to himself. ’..that Black Accord member made it seem as if the Dragon Guards were things to be played with...’ Then Vacuse shivered, because that means the Black Accord are extraordinarily powerful. He really didn’t like that. Captain Mera snorted, and her eyes narrowed as she understood what was happening. "You must really underestimate us. So that jellyfish lured the monsters here to finish us? What a joke!" The four copies of her gestured as one. In response, those of the Dragon Guards that were shielding the weaker members of the Doolin group pushed them back even more. And one Dragon Guard member came out. Without waiting, he immediately flew towards the Alpha hound, who barked in surprise, calling all its pack to fall and devour the humans as one. And they did just that. They howled high into the sky, and then they exploded forward. Captain Mera didn’t need to give other instructions, as the Dragon Guards members also shot forward. The two clashed, and the fight began. But the fight didn’t last, as the monsters were easily taken care of. The Alpha survived the last and tried to flee, but it was taken down and beheaded. Vacuse smiled to himself. The Dragon Guards are really strong. Captain Mera nodded in satisfaction as she ordered the cleanup of the slaughter scene, because blood in the Wilderness would quickly attract other monsters. Vacuse looked at the surrounding forest, and he didn’t feel any satisfaction. He refused to believe that the Black Accord would just send monsters to them without knowing their battle power. Or had they really underestimated the Dragon Guards? Vacuse found that unlikely. They wouldn’t have sent Serenthar if it was that. Serenthar that was very close to capturing Vacuse. ’..so...what exactly were they planning..’ Vacuse didn’t like it, but there was nothing he could do. And what bothered him the most was that he really didn’t know where he stood, since he had no idea why the Black Accord wanted to capture him. Just as they were about to finish cleaning the scene, the jellyfish appeared. It warped and turned into the figure of a man with the face of a mask. He bowed to Vacuse. "Nice to meet you, My Lord." The Dragon Guards tensed and immediately closed ranks with Vacuse, bodies bursting with hostile aura. Some of them moved forward, hands clenching, ready to unleash power at any given time. The jellyfish raised his hands. "Wait..wait! I’m not here to cause trouble when I’ve already caused it. Besides, you can’t really hurt me. I’m an illusion. "I just want to have some words with the Dragon heir." Vacuse’s eyes narrowed. "What do you want?" The illusion head was formed into a blank wooden slate without expression. "I think you know what we want. Why do you keep doing this up and down chase with me?" "You are the Black Accord leader?" Vacuse asked a question of his own. The man laughed. "No, no. I’m just a member, but I’m the one responsible with the task of capturing you." "So the attack on Kragthar...?" "That was a lot of things wrapped up in an assignment. We try to accomplish a lot of things together with one sword, but you are more formidable than you seem." Vacuse didn’t take that as a compliment at all, and his eyes only continued to narrow. "So...what exactly do you want with me here?" "Nothing much. I’m just going to repeat what Serenthar said. Come with me to see the boss." "Or?" Vacuse asked. "Or I’ll kill you." He said it quietly, casually. But Vacuse instantly tensed, and he felt his face tighten. "You will kill me? All you guys have been saying since was that you are trying to take me alive. Is this meant to scare me into going with you?" The man laughed. "Quite the opposite! I will tell you one thing for free though, it’s really a precious piece of information that a lot of people do not know about, but I will tell you. "The Black Accord is a group made up for the sole purpose of making profit. The Black Accord is like a business organization, and that’s the only thing that drives us. Profit."
