Chapter 92: Home-Cooked Meals Eating egg fried rice. While several groups were worried about a few missing students and one particularly sought-after vendor, five people were enjoying their fill of egg-fried rice. Well, some were crying over it, like Ollie, who wanted to preserve every grain of rice and ration it for the remainder of the year. "Luca, no wonder you always looked like you were suffering whenever we ate at the cafeteria!" Actually, it wasn’t the taste that made him react like that. It was how he had to pay for food when he could get it back in his space for free. The only reason Luca went to the cafeteria was to avoid suspicion. After all, for someone who didn’t eat at the canteen and didn’t like nutrient solutions, where else would he be getting his food? If they didn’t know any better, they’d assume he was photosynthesizing! Luca just smiled at Ollie before asking if it wasn’t to his taste because he was barely eating anything while the others, like Jax, had already demolished their share. "Oh no! I’m trying to save some of it, so I’m eating slowly!" Ollie didn’t want to be like the two bulls next to him who just inhaled everything and was now eyeing his bowl like it was open for robbing. Ollie made sure to tighten his grip in case a wayward hand wandered towards his food. "Eh?" Luca was surprised. He was sad when he thought that Ollie found his cooking unsatisfactory. He used to cook with leftovers and scarce ingredients, so he wasn’t sure whether these nobles would be okay with his cooking. "I actually have more here if you still feel like eating!" Luca happily offered before noticing everyone’s expectant gazes. "Of course, all of you could get more!" Xavier watched as the chipmunk offered more of the fragrant rice, which looked golden after being coated with eggs from Luca’s chicken farm. If it was up to him, these dolts don’t deserve to eat this much and should probably work harder starting from tomorrow. But what could he do when Luca looked delighted as he served more food to these ungrateful bastards? "What about you, Xavier?" Luca blinked up at him while holding the serving spoon. "Please," Xavier offered his bowl, and Kyle watched in amazement at how the Captain could be tamed with egg-fried rice. But honestly, Luca could start commanding an entire battalion with just the promise of a spoonful. Not only was the food too delicious, but every bite felt like his insides were being refreshed with energy. It was an incredibly novel feeling that he hadn’t been used to, even after snacking on a few fruits. "Brother, what about auctioning food?" Ollie stopped eating to voice out his suggestion. If you were planning on selling a few fruits at your online store, how about selling cooked meals through an auction? He said this because Ollie himself was willing to enter a fighting ring to win a bowl. So, what more when one could just fight over it with money? In fact, what about opening a restaurant straight up? Oh no. Luca might end up kidnapped or, worse, enslaved to money! "Food? Auction bowls of food?" Luca looked surprised, but Jax fully supported the idea. "If this was in an auction, I’d be willing to sell Kyle." "??!" "Excuse me?! What makes you think I wouldn’t have sold you before you could even try it?!" Who was a friend in front of the food? No one. "You think someone would want to buy simple dishes?" Luca asked shyly. Technically, this was something the poor back in Tesseris would have, and he didn’t feel like he could auction it for astronomical prices. "Don’t underestimate the worth of the items you have. Nobles would be beside themselves trying to take a bite of something like this." "But look at you giving it away as compensation when these people are supposed to be free labor." "Tsk." Xavier didn’t hide his dismay, and the three pigs felt the threat from the big bad wolf. "Captain! We’ll work really hard, and we just ask for a bit of food! We can even live here if Luca needs full-time staff!" Kyle offered, afraid of getting demoted to work outside the space. He was willing to collect pebbles here if need be. The situation was that desperate. "I see your ’bit’ of food can sustain a family of five and their pets. How convenient." Xavier sneered, and Ollie gulped down his food in case he was asked to put it back. "It’s fine! I seem to enjoy cooking and eating with people. So, this should be a good thing. And we managed to finish the work faster this way." Everyone nodded earnestly save for Xavier, who just sighed and remembered how easy it was to sell Luca while asking him to count the sale’s profits. This chipmunk needed intense monitoring from sweet talkers and gluttons alike. While these people enjoyed their time in peace, a certain Duke was about to go crazy trying to look for his son. Okay, in reality, Luca sent a few messages to the people whose contacts he had. The problem was that he didn’t send a message to the Duke, his own father. There was no louder wake-up call than everyone around you getting a message from your sweet son while you sat there waiting for nothing! "Your Grace, it’s likely because the Young Lord doesn’t have your contact information. After all, you’ve never really given it to anyone but a few people." The Duke’s eyes narrowed as he nitpicked on the Butler’s statement. "How could I not want his contact information?!" The Duke pouted as he pounded on the table for the nth time. "Just how absurd is it that all of you managed to receive a message from my son while I got nothing?!" The air crackled as the Duke’s anger soared. In a bid to save the manor, Butler Gary immediately sent a message to their Lord asking for assistance. And Luca was surprised to receive such a request and thought long and hard about what to do about it. He still wasn’t sure about how the Duke viewed him, as someone who suddenly appeared wielding this body. But he figured that most fathers would want to know about their children’s whereabouts after such emergencies. However, he wasn’t sure he could handle an ongoing conversation, so he sent a short video. That way, he wouldn’t have to think of an immediate response and could buy time to figure out where he really stood. The Duke was surprised to find a video that was specially recorded for him. It was the first time he’d actually seen him from a proper angle, and the boy who used to look so lifeless was looking all rosey and alive. The Duke didn’t know how to handle it, and his son hadn’t even opened his mouth to say anything. But then Luca called him ’Father’ with a voice he’d never heard and decided to have a running signboard of this video clip in his room. Then Luca wished him good health and fast recovery, hoping they could meet once the Duke felt better. Maybe they should’ve asked for the video earlier. Because clearly, one video solved the work of three doctors.
