Chapter 262: Applicants The problem did not really lie with her. They weren’t being clear enough. Had they been clearer about the rules, then maybe this wouldn’t have happened. For what were they thinking when they just said, "Breach the enemy lines," after breaking the examinees into two groups without giving further explanation? Ada would like to think that her boss was actively redefining the meaning of infantry for these people. After all, they had been left gawking at the trailblazing princess who bulldozed her way through. While the green calamity was busy encouraging her loyal aide, Ada was busy apologizing to the unsuspecting examinees who caught strays. "Your Highness, I think the point of the exam was to display finesse and skill, not just brute force." Said the aide who looked at the course and could immediately tell. "For one, the rules didn’t say that. And two, brute force is a skill." Argued the princess, who was attempting to hoist Ada over a muddy trench. The examiners weren’t sure what to do. On the one hand, they wanted to call her out, but on the other hand, she was right that there weren’t really any rules against this. So, they could only watch as the Orc princess sprinted straight into the mock enemy lines while destroying the obstacles, which forcefully scattered the surprised examinees. And by the time they reached the enemy base, it had already been too late for anyone to call her out. "Your Highness, why do I have a feeling they’ll assign us to the frontlines now?" "Then that’s great! That’s exactly where we want to be!" Though even at the back, she’d still be able to see with how short everyone is, anyway! But maybe being in front would allow her to look for him better. Especially since she had no more time. Now, while two aspiring mercenaries were out there risking their necks for the sake of gratitude, one princess was actually risking hers for her love life and someone else’s family jewels. Admittedly, she might not have considered a few things when she decided to enroll. Like the fact that they couldn’t even go out unless it was the weekend or the fact that her father had heard about a few things and was coming over. Soon—as in next month. To let her get married here to honor human traditions before going back to their galaxy for their own marriage rites. Now, that admittedly sounded great, and really progressive, if not for a teenie tiny problem. There was no groom. Or, well, there was supposed to be one; it’s just that he’s probably held up somewhere. And honestly, he better have a gripping story—preferably something involving pirates, hostage situations, or at least some space dragons. For if he’d simply ghosted her... Princess Kira cracked her knuckles ominously. Then he better hope he becomes one before she catches up with him. And he better do it soon, for she had just cleared the first order of business: getting a mercenary license. Next up, she’d just have to apply for that particular guild! She had it all planned out. Sort of. __ And that was how Theo found himself awkwardly wedged between two imposing Orc ladies and another tall mecha pilot. With all four of them packed into a waiting room, the area suddenly felt too small. Honestly, Theo had been so excited about passing that he didn’t consider the next part of his plan; after all, he didn’t actually get to this part of the planning. Joining DG had always been part of the dream, and while the dream hadn’t even been there for longer than a month, it had been all he’s thought about. But now that he was here, he couldn’t help wondering if he should’ve prepared better or at least prepared something. Technically, they were sitting out there because Luca was not sure what to do with them. When the confused leader called for the rest, Kyle mentioned that he had been planning to look at the list of passers and see if he could entice qualified people to join. He just didn’t think they’d get direct applicants without them posting for it. "Brother! You’re saying we have new applicants?" Bounced Ollie, who was initially excited after their guild got attention, but deflated after realizing a critical issue. While it was great to have more people since they admittedly needed more hands, they weren’t exactly your usual guild. He was pretty sure that at least 99% of their actions weren’t exactly normal. "Do we know them?" Asked Ollie, who thought it was unlikely since they barely knew other people from the other years. "Well, brother, we know all of them. I think." "Huh???" Do they even know that many people, Ollie wondered. "Remember our first client? And the one who referred him to us? They’re the ones applying." Ollie clapped his hands together, suddenly alerting everyone. "I remember them! They’re applying?! Really?" Well, they did say they were taking their chances. After all, no recruitment posts were up. But what about the two orcs? Thought Luca, who hadn’t been able to tell the entire story. "Really? But isn’t that good since they kind of already know about some of the things we actually do?" confirmed the mop who remembered how his good brother actually cleaned Noah’s store and house. "Yeah, I think so too... It’s just that, what do we do about the other two?" "Other two? You mean to say we actually have four applicants?!" Luca nodded before stabbing at Ollie’s excitement. "Uhm, brother. It’s the Orcs." It was barely a murmur, but it practically echoed around and got everyone’s attention. Especially the attention of one prince whose unfinished business was reopened, as if some gauze had been ripped off. "Orcs?" Asked Xavier, and next to him Kyle shivered. Not forgetting how he had suffered trying to keep a table whole. The adjutant was sure that this was not an application but more like a threat. And even if they were really applying, how was he supposed to survive next to their fermenting Captain?! The worries were mounting. One guild leader looked at the white-haired prince and remembered how someone had once desired to marry his husband. It was but a tiny bud that was awakened when D-29 exclaimed "love rival" upon seeing the orcs. But unbeknownst to the little Guide, the same Prince was thinking just the same, as this Orc has declared marrying his fruit vendor. Ollie’s initially cleared-out memories of the once-green babies reared their heads as he looked at his good brother, who was now even more fabulous. What if? Yeah, what if her tastes have evolved?
