Chapter 255: Chipmunk Nina hadn’t really thought so earlier. But when the young man with such vibrant golden eyes started eating the Fruit Roll-Up, he suddenly saw it. Those cheeks! That bulge! "!!!" After all, she had done extensive research for this day, and that look was as adorable as the photos! Not to mention the generosity! The cards were surely thank-you cards; it was just that each one had a chipmunk in a different pose. Luca had to ask about the design choice, not that he had a reliable eye. "A chipmunk?" "Should I have hidden that, My Lord?" She asked worriedly. "Big Brother said you were a very cute chipmunk and must be thanked for all the delicious snacks!" Luca’s head snapped toward Xavier. There it was, the culprit! The Crown Prince, utterly unrepentant, merely rested his chin on his hand as he tried hiding that amused smile. "Well," Xavier drawled, "you do resemble one." Luca’s cheeks burned a vibrant pink, the chipmunk comparison finally sinking in. "I—I’m not a chipmunk!" He protested, flailing slightly. But Nina, ever so fast (not exactly correct) on the uptake, beamed with an understanding and knowing smile. "Don’t worry!" "I won’t tell anyone about your secret! We can pinky swear on it!" And Luca was surprised to see a pinky swear directed at him as she dramatically stretched out her very tiny pinky. Luca was helpless. But ended up bamboozled into this pinky swear. "Ah..." He scratched his cheek, half-mortified and half endeared. "Well, thank you for the gifts, Your Highness." "Oh, call me Nina, please!" The little princess smiled brightly. After all, if his Brother Chipmunk was allowed to call her Big Brother by his name, then he should definitely be allowed to call her "Nina"! Luca, face flushed, could only nod as she clung to his side like a newly discovered treasure. Honestly, Luca was worried about how long they’d been in here and had to ask Xavier about it. "I informed Jax and Butler Henry earlier. Someone would definitely look for her had I not done that." But at the same time, they could not pry off the young girl who was extremely dedicated to her current tasks. All because Luca had given her an unexpected blessing in the form of a treasure box. However, more than the ornate design of this box, what really captured the little girl were the rows and rows of different colored Fruit roll-ups! "!!!" It was a magnificent sight. One that almost had her fainting on the spot. But she held on, afraid that her box might fall! What surprised both Luca and Xavier though, was how after the thank yous, the little girl chose to sit by the table and uncapped a marker. "Nina, what are you doing?" Asked the Prince, who finally had to say something. "Oh! Big Brother, I am planning and rationing. I have to account for frustrating and hard days when I might have to eat more than an inch at a time." Oh boy, did she have a lot of these days. By now, she’s learned to be more realistic and maybe increase the daily allocation to at least five inches of each roll. Luca and Xavier stared at each other as the Princess concentrated on marking the parchment side of each roll. She was dead serious. "Nina, say, if your big brother allows it and if you end up liking the roll-ups, I could probably make you some more." The little girl’s hand shook, her writing skewing out as she heard such a proposition. And Nina looked at her big brother with the hope of at least ten planets. It’s not like Xavier had a choice. Luca was out there attacking him with those eyes, and he was sure Luca sympathized with the other little animal. Then there was the sister, Nina, who would definitely faint if he rejected this offer. "If Luca is willing to do this, then you can receive it graciously. But you need to be extremely careful, Nina. Think of your Brother Chipmunk." Imperial Princess Nina gasped. But it was not only her as Luca gasped in indignance! "Xavier!" Complained the tomato-based saint. Nina watched as her big brother ruffled Luca’s hair and thought that this chipmunk was really cute!
