Chapter 311: Clarity It hadn’t been that long. Only a few minutes had passed since the overwhelming spiritual pressure had faded, and the glowing cockpit of Sid had finally gone quiet. From the outside, it looked peaceful. Sealed. Untouchable. No one dared knock. After all, word had already spread, primarily through Kyle and Ollie, who Butler Gary pestered, that Luca usually fell asleep after a massive outburst like that. It was his recovery pattern: purge, crash, nap. So they gave him space. Everyone else busied themselves with cleanup. Kyle and Ollie were sorting monster bones. At the same time, the others were rolling beast carcasses to one side with quiet reverence. As for the worried mother? Duchess Amelia...well, she was still glaring at the mecha from a distance, arms crossed, visibly restraining herself from kicking the cockpit open to confirm her son’s vital signs. Meanwhile, Sid continued to pretend to be a very large, very innocent lump of metal who definitely didn’t know what was going on inside his own cockpit. But inside? Inside, Luca was very much awake. He had been for a while now. At first, he really had been asleep.. It was comfortable. Too comfortable as he was wrapped around something solid that was warm where it mattered and cold where he needed it most. So when memory started to trickle in, it did so gently. At first, he remembered the heat. The pressure. The fight. Then Xavier’s coaxing voice as he whispered different things to him. Then the kiss. Correction, the kisses. Oh. Oh no. That was when Luca made the executive decision to stay very still. He didn’t flinch. Didn’t twitch. Just stayed limp in Xavier’s arms with a fake, peaceful expression that screamed ’I am asleep and have no memories of anything compromising.’ It would’ve worked, too. Except the memories didn’t stop. They came in waves. Messy. Out of order. Blurred and terrifyingly vivid all at once. Xavier’s hand was on his lower back. While his own legs hooked around the prince like he was clinging to a tree trunk in a storm. And the noise he’d made when Xavier kissed the corner of his mouth?! Unbelievable. The mortified chipmunk could remember how he squeaked at every little thing. But maybe squeaking was far better than gyrating, which—oh stars—he absolutely remembered doing. Repeatedly. His eyes stayed shut, glued if only it were possible. But internally? The little guide was screaming at the flooding memories of earlier. Luca thought that it should be fine. If he never woke up, then he would never have to acknowledge how many times he’d bitten Xavier as if the mountain giant were a piece of meat. Nor would he have to be accountable for doing things he didn’t ask permission for. Yet, as he panicked, Xavier’s breathing was steady beneath him, the rise and fall of his chest far too close for someone trying to plead for innocence. In fact, the little guide felt guilty as Xavier’s hand still cradled the back of his head while his other hand rested calmly against his thigh. Just like earlier, when he attacked the prince with his mouth, hips, and hands. But most of all, what bothered the skittish animal were the sounds. The shameless , high-pitched noises he had made— Luca had to clench his fingers to keep them from curling up like a dying spider. He peeked one eye open—just slightly. Only to see Xavier’s jaw from below, sharp and calm and far too beautiful for someone who had just been used as a personal spiritual grounding block. Then, without thinking, his eye flicked downward— Only to realize he was still sitting on the giant’s lap. Straddling him. There was a small, deliberate movement. Xavier’s hand brushed through his hair again, soothing, gentle, like he knew. "Your breathing changed," he murmured, voice low and warm against his wife’s temple. "You’re awake, aren’t you?" Luca froze. Internally screamed again. Outwardly, he let out the weakest, most pathetic whine that had ever come from his throat. The prince chuckled softly, thumb brushing the edge of his cheek. "You were very brave." Luca whimpered again. He was not brave. In fact, he was the most cowardly chicken in their entire metaphorical coop. And right now, he was still too mortified to look the cooling glacier in the eyes. Yes, they’d done something similar before, but that time, Xavier had asked. He’d made sure Luca was okay with it. But this time? This time, he had ravished the prince without much thought. Had moved on instinct. Had done all those things he couldn’t even begin to describe. He was so embarrassed he might just fold into a singularity. Xavier, ever perceptive, saw the gears turning behind his flustered expression. And he smiled. Cruel. Beautiful. Amused. "You didn’t like it?" Xavier asked softly, tilting his head. "Was I too much?" Luca’s head shot up so fast it was a wonder he didn’t pull something. "What?! No," the little guide said quickly, his voice just a little too high. "It wasn’t that I didn’t like it." He glanced away for half a second before meeting Xavier’s gaze again, more grounded but still very clearly embarrassed. "I...liked it. A lot." The prince arched a brow, the corner of his mouth lifting slightly. "?" "I just...acted without thinking," Luca muttered, rubbing at the back of his neck. "Didn’t ask. Wasn’t exactly gentle. I dumped a ton of raw energy into you, and I wasn’t even sure if you were ready to handle that kind of—" Before he could finish, Xavier moved. Smoothly. Deliberately. He shifted their positions in one fluid motion, guiding the worrywart onto his back with a gentle press, the weight of his presence both unyielding and carefully controlled. He didn’t hover like a threat—he settled, like gravity made manifest, with one hand braced beside Luca’s head and the other resting lightly at his waist. The guide blinked up at him, startled more by the shift in intensity than the movement itself. "You think I didn’t like that?" Xavier asked, voice low and velvety, just the slightest hint of amusement curling at the edges. Luca’s breath hitched—but he didn’t look away. "I liked it," Xavier said, calm and assured. "Every second of it." The little guide swallowed, heat crawling up the back of his neck. "I liked being wanted by you," Xavier continued, his gaze unwavering. "And how we fit together." He dipped his head, close—so close Luca could feel his breath against his lips, the brush of air and intent. Still not kissing. Just there. Letting the tension spool. "I liked how you moved," Xavier murmured, words ghosting over Luca’s mouth. "How you looked at me, and especially how you sounded." Luca’s chest rose with a shaky breath. He didn’t need to hide under his hands, but he couldn’t pretend he wasn’t affected. His fingers curled slightly into Xavier’s side, grounding himself. "And I’d like it to happen again," Xavier said, his voice a quiet promise. "If you want it to." The flustered wife blinked, lips parting, gaze searching his face. Then nodded once. Small. Certain. Xavier’s smile deepened just slightly, and he leaned in, brushing his knuckles along this shorty’s cheek. "One more thing," he murmured. "Do you want me to take care of that?" Asked the prince, who had such a coaxing tone that Luca failed to understand what he meant right away. Until the white wolf looked down. And Luca’s eyes widened. Oh.
