Chapter 260: Motivation No classes! Ollie wanted to skip with joy but made sure to look wistful enough when he submitted his permission slip. "Cadet Mylor." Called Instructor Moore, who nearly shocked the escaping mop. "Yes, Sir?" croaked Ollie, who was suddenly nervous after being stared at like this. "I heard that your guild has been very busy?" More than busy, actually, but Ollie just nodded earnestly. "A bit, Sir." "I see. Well, make sure to practice your skills, as being exempted from attending the lectures does not mean being exempted from the exams, alright?" Ah, he figured that would be too good to be true. "Okay, Sir. I’d keep this in mind." Said the drooping Ollie, who would’ve honestly worried the Instructor if he hadn’t been the best part-time student in his class. "Another thing, Mylor." "Sir?" "Your guild leader, does he still work with mechas?" Ollie suddenly brightened up. It was a question about his good brother, after all! "Yes, sir! Don’t worry!" He doesn’t only work with them, he even speaks to them! And right now, those very same mechas were actually acting as guards for the purifying chamber as the Duke worked through each containment cube. They’ve got it down to science now, and if they were to really force it, they could actually heal more clients per day at a rate of 300-320 people per eight-hour shift. But they decided not to do that because the aftercare is where they were taking too long. And they don’t exactly have the space to lay down all these passed-out people, who had to be given at least a drink or a piece of fruit to pad their now bigger and emptier spiritual energy tanks. It was taxing, as the number of times they needed to teleport consistently was just too much. But every time Luca felt tired, he would just imagine 600,000 CP per 100 humans, and he’d regain all his lost energy. It was glorious! Humans were glorious! But it wasn’t only him; Jax eyed and smiled at every soldier who walked by, and he saw each one as a potential cow. Luca described the cows and the pigs to them and said that at this rate, they should be able to buy the barn and get a few animals. And so, the workers have been highly motivated. So motivated that one particular money grubber could be seen giggling randomly as the balance of their Guild Treasury reached a very nice 18.6 trillion while their credits had hit 102.77 million! Obviously, this was not money for them but for the beasts, but the guild leader did not mind; all he cared about was seeing the pretty number. However, one particular Prince wasn’t as elated as everyone else, but not for reasons that could be disclosed. Especially not when even he found it unreasonable. You see, he’s aware of the irrationality of his thoughts, and yet it was impossible to ignore how several people have started taking longer and lingering glances at one particularly smiley chipmunk. When they’d say hi to this small animal, he’d return it with an even bigger smile that attracted even more attention. Like, how was that even possible with how much he’s already attracting?! And the Prince knows exactly why, for at one point in time, he monopolized that look. But now, each person walking was a Star Coin, Credit, or CP to this little golden dragon, and so each one deserved that bubbly smile. That smile that once belonged solely to him was now in widespread distribution and was annoyingly bittersweet. At least he was happy, right? But just because he knew doesn’t mean he’d like it, and so the Prince could only grunt here and there, effectively driving his adjutant crazy! Kyle was Kyle. Still busy and still crazy. And his terminal was still on rotation as he avoided the chances of being found by his probably hysterical brother. But they were busy, and he was promised milk, and so the adjutant kept on fighting to the next day, hoping that they could nab a few souls to work for them. After all, they were currently getting rave reviews. This time, it was from the Military Headquarters, who had started sending over their thanks in different forms. It was largely because they deserved it, but also a probable ploy to "inspire" them to attend to more of these ailing soldiers. The feedback was beyond wonderful. And while the people of DG would never comment on it, the people who returned from their 30-minute sessions were always in the best state they’d ever been. It was so great that when someone had their monthly checkup after it, the military doctors had to recheck for device malfunctions. Heck, it could’ve been a document falsification, but the doctor had known the patient for years and was sure of the strong presence of contamination. But today... Today, there was none. They rechecked, five times in fact. And nothing, nothing but a clean bill of health. Then, they gathered the others from the same session. And what would you know? The doctors were stumped and had to convene secretly to talk about this phenomenon without alerting the actual patients. Because what if they gave them false hope? What if something was just wrong with the testing materials?! But they had to alert the Marshal and his team, who came down the moment they heard something about sudden anomalies. Marshal Julian kept re-reading the results. His solution was to bring in someone who had not been through the session at the Daycare. With what he was seeing, was it even right to call that place a Daycare? Shouldn’t they call that the ER or, at the very least, the ICU?! Or maybe something like the "revival clinic"? They ran the tests again, and this time, the soldier invited over clearly had traces of contamination. The machines all reflected the same results. "..." "Have the soldiers scheduled for tomorrow’s session tested before they go in." The Marshal did not need to tell them what to do next, for it might shatter the budding hope that was building up. But this hope was not shattered and was instead built up with every returning soldier. It was just that no one could really talk about it, and for a while, the people of the military could only keep on glancing at each other with knowing smiles. That was admittedly creepy. But how else could they express this joy when they signed an NDA?!
