Chapter 257: Guild Rising School hours hadn’t even ended when the forums erupted beyond the walls of the Academy. News had once again reached the Star Net. And while many found Earl Nolan’s earlier livestream to be amusing and awe-inspiring, most people actually marked it as an extravagant display of wealth and power. After all, a pet daycare that looked like that? It must only be for the insane. Which were mostly the rich nobles who had that much money to burn. But what was supposed to be a laughable thing that they were preparing to mock, like those other pet spas that advertised like crazy, ended up sparking a different kind of craze. First was the joke of a building that looked more believable than the engineered haunted houses. This one actually looked like bodies have been buried in there. Not to mention how the nobles would enter in droves despite no one getting out. But more than that, the guest list alone shocked many of the people. While it was impressive that their very own Imperial Princess was there, that was rather expected when she had two beloved pets. What they didn’t expect were the tough-as-nails nobles that lined up with everyone else. [Are we sure this isn’t some satire piece?] [No, that’s actually Duke Caius with his horse, and as you can see, right there is our Princess.] But disbelief just continued to grow as more snippets leaked. And by forming a collection of snippets posted by these lucky few, the masses were able to get a better idea of what those people were experiencing. And yet, what actually took the cake was the simple yet unbelievable clip of a rather small tortoise that pulverized boulders and crushed sturdy mecha shells while wearing a silken scarf. Within ours, Tortie had shot up to the likes of a celebrity. [I kid you not; that’s not a tortoise. That’s gotta be a tank in disguise!] [Look at Mr. Mittens, he clearly knew what was up!] [I don’t know about you all, but I am convinced that the scarf is a power limiter.] [Upstairs commenter, are you saying that he’s still limited with that kind of ability?!] Now, while Tortie was unknowingly and nonchalantly rising in fame, the people’s desire to know more would eventually shift to something that was surprisingly ignored in all this. The Dungeon Guardians Guild. Admittedly, the members had been waiting for this particular moment. Not because they wanted to enjoy the fame, but because they needed the notoriety as well as enough fuel to start a fire. But if they didn’t use such unconventional methods, it would take them ages just to get the same recognition and credibility that the S-Level guilds were enjoying. Especially because they were bound to create waves with the way they just showed up out of nowhere. People dug around and realized that the guild was painfully new, almost suspiciously so. And if not for the footage of Ollie’s encounter with the shiny-headed senior, people would not know of the oddest origin of this guild. And while they didn’t do marketing nor did they do a showcase of their abilities and members, people were able to dig around about the smallest active guild in the Empire. There were detractors and naysayers, but unfortunately for those people, certain groups had always been protective of their saviors and even more defensive of their flower boys. Luca could not believe what was being shown online! Apparently his brother was not kidding about their fame, although Luca could not believe what he was famous for! Instead of his ranking feats, his face was all over Star Net, and videos of him and Xavier were all over the place. But more than anything, it was Kyle who had to block out his terminal for fear of being summoned by the Imperial Palace. Those blasted photos?! They’ve clearly been edited, as he could not remember anything of that sort happening! And while there were clearly things that could be reported on, surely they didn’t look that bad, right?! If his brother had seen this, he was sure to receive some ass whooping! "Captain, I swear I got rid of those already, just why do they keep on making new ones?!" Complained Kyle, who actually looked for these sketchy photos to the point where his terminal had started recommending the weirdest things. "Wow, Kyle. I didn’t think you’d be into these..." Ollie was surprised at the recommended materials on Kyle’s terminal that didn’t match his usual persona. "It’s part of my job. You, on the other hand, should take care of your privacy settings." "With how people are digging right now, I won’t be surprised if someone starts looking at all those recently viewed and liked stories of yours," Kyle warned from under his forearm. "I’m not—I don’t! And also, why did you look? Were you spying on me?!" Flailed the mop who wasn’t sure how to react. "How could I not see it when you didn’t even bother to turn on the privacy settings while inside MY room? Where did you want me to even look?" Kyle reasoned exasperatedly. "You could’ve ignored it! Or looked elsewhere!" Screeched Ollie, whose hair antenna was flailing like crazy. "Oi, you realize that even if I shut my eyes, I’d still hear you, right?!" "Oh! Is it when he suddenly giggles by himself?" chimed Jax, who remembered how Ollie was like when repairing mechas. "Were you reading something funny, brother?" Asked Luca, who wanted to know about it so he could maybe read it next time, only to be surprised by the sudden violent reactions of his friends. "Eh??? Is it not funny then?" Thankfully, Luca’s venture into the world of his own fanfiction had been stopped by the arrival of the message they had honestly been waiting for. It was a prompt on Luca’s terminal as DG’s guild leader. "I think we got it, guys. We just received a request for a meeting at the Military Headquarters." "Brother, you think it’s the version we’re waiting for? It won’t be them trying to arrest us for the lack of a business permit or something, right?" "What are you even talking about? We have a business permit! I’ve been slaving away for far too long to forget the most basic thing." Kyle bonked Ollie’s head as there he was again, thinking of random thoughts. "Then if they’re not going to arrest us, they’re likely going to make a deal with us." Hopefully!
