Chapter 364: Discharge If only. Understandably, the two fathers weren’t entirely sure about any of it. But somehow they couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that something was amiss. Perhaps it was simply the instincts of men sensing a theft happening right under their noses, or how their wives kept exchanging silent glances as if confirming suspicions without words. For however the women looked at it, one son was already thoroughly wrapped in the arms of his husband, with no possible negotiations for return. While for the other, the bun that hadn’t even been created had already been...apportioned. But really, something shouldn’t be a problem until it’s known, right? And so the most pressing issue remained the same: convincing the Mylor couple of their determination to see this aquaponic project through. They had all been working on it, and Luca, after being comforted, managed to remember this important goal. While they might be able to do this next year, that would be a big loss and a major disappointment for everyone. But to do this, they must first be allowed to leave the medical bay. Not exactly easy, given that the parents were now hovering like anxious hawks, deeply worried about every single one of them. They know, because they tried asking. But the little guide was desperate enough to remember a few items that might help convince them—a handful of small pills he’d been working on. "Mom, I think I have a way to ensure we’re in great shape." "?" "D-29 and the Elders once said that these healing pills work much faster than the medical pod for internal injuries," he chirped softly, offering them forward. "And these should be helpful for both of you who sparred earlier." He turned, cheeks faintly flushed, as he handed healing and spiritual recovery pills to Xavier and his mom while his good brother Ollie got a healing pill. "I think they shouldn’t sting anymore..." he looked sheepishly at the prince as he recalled that brush with death. Hopefully, they should now be used to this much spiritual energy and shouldn’t be shocked early into the afterlife. Duchess Amelia raised a skeptical brow at first, folding her arms. Her most notable memory of this was how they were raving about the revive pill that became Cece’s last hope. And while she was sure that was effective considering the dwarf’s survival, she couldn’t help but have her doubts. Especially because she learned how Luca initially learned pill-making from those cretins in Tesseris. "Rest is still important, Luca. We can handle the rest. You don’t need to—" But Luca’s hopeful eyes gleamed up at her. "Mom, please! Just try it first...!" Now, how would it be possible to say no to that face and those eyes? Not to mention her husband was looking at her like she’d committed a crime by not giving in right away! "..." So, sighing softly, the Duchess relented and tried the pill for the sake of her sanity. But it only took seconds. Her eyes widened slightly as the subtle pulse of energy began coursing through her system, washing away lingering aches with astonishing speed. And that was only the healing pill. For a moment, the duchess was afraid to try the spiritual recovery pill because the name alone was so alarming and game-changing that it felt like sacrilege. And it was, but maybe that was because she didn’t get to experience it like the rest of them who took it without being used to the amount of spiritual energy. Then maybe she would associate it more with the feeling of exorcism, just like Xavier, who just decided to trust his wife, like always. Worst case scenario, someone was likely going to use a revive pill on him. But surprisingly, it felt similar to the healing pill, and searing pain didn’t come, just as Luca said. "Thank you," said the prince, who appreciated the painless gesture, especially since he could directly compare this with the medical pod. And if he could tell, surely the duchess could. The conflicted mother turned slowly and regretfully. "I...must inform you all," she murmured, her voice half-resigned, half-impressed, "that these pills are...exceptionally potent." The Mylor couple, who had been observing with polite skepticism, were visibly startled. After all, there was no way to really see if it had an effect on their son, for he still looked like an angry small beast, albeit a little shinier. They stared at the small, round pills still cradled in Luca’s delicate hands, as if only now realizing they weren’t just decorative beads. Marquis Osmond blinked hard. "Those tiny things...?" Marquise Julienne leaned in slightly, eyes narrowing in sharp curiosity. "You’re certain, Duchess?" Amelia gave a single, graceful nod. "I wouldn’t joke about this." Luca looked up at the gathered parents, his large golden eyes shining with earnest determination. His small hands were still delicately cradling a few more of these pills. The adults, seasoned and sharp as they were, found themselves momentarily blinded, utterly defenseless against the sheer power of his soft pleading gaze. "...Alright," Duchess Amelia finally murmured, pinching the bridge of her nose with a sigh of surrender. "We’ll allow you to ask the doctors if you can be discharged. But only if they approve it, understood?" The heir nodded quickly, his face lighting up with grateful excitement. "Thank you, Mom!" Still, the Mylor couple exchanged glances, a puzzled air between them. "Why are they so eager to leave, though?" Marquise Julienne murmured to her husband under her breath. "Resting here wouldn’t be such a bad thing, surely?" For one, since when did their son not want to rest when all he did when he was younger was fake different illnesses to avoid going to class? "???" It was Luca himself who answered as he turned toward them, cheeks puffed up as he rubbed the back of his neck. "Um...My Lady, it’s because the tournament should be starting soon," he said softly. "And...we don’t want to miss it. Also, the prizes are with me. Some of the items need to be prepared beforehand." Marquis Osmond blinked, bemused. "Oh, that tournament you mentioned earlier?" But before anyone else could elaborate, Ollie suddenly sprang to life, puffing up proudly. "There’s the tournament! But more importantly, it’s because we need to help prepare the food for today!" he declared, hands on his hips like a triumphant little rooster. Inside, though, Ollie’s thoughts were racing excitedly: And if we help prepare the food, that means we get to taste it first... A gleam flickered in his eyes. And if we’re the ones making it, we might even get a little extra on the side, because my brother always lets us copy him when it comes to making things... Ollie puffed up even more, practically glowing with affection. Ahhh, my brother really is the best. But apparently, it was a sentiment that would also be echoed by both the participants and the spectators of the tournament. Because when the normally thrifty and mindful heir later unveiled the carefully prepared gift packs, even the most hardened nobles and seasoned soldiers would be left wiping tears from the corners of their eyes. Some from pure gratefulness. Others... well, from envy. However, none of this would have been possible without the help of the bony elders, particularly Elder Wei. The elder had personally taken the time to sit Luca down and patiently yet insistently teach him the finer points of pill refinement. Thankfully, their Lord was a good student, just one who didn’t like spending much (or at all), but a good student nonetheless. Hence, there were a lot of changes in how he was now making all the other pills, save for the guiding ones. Unlike back in Tesseris, when he’d haphazardly requested random herbs—often for a guiding pill that didn’t even require them—the elders were now cultivating the precise, high-quality materials needed for proper refinement. And with better methods, proper tools, and a top-tier furnace, what else could anyone expect but stellar results? Still, Luca knew: if nothing good had come of it, he probably would have cried along with D-29. After all, that furnace cost a whopping 150,000 CP. So when he prepared those gift packs, the budding pill maker included healing, stamina, and even guiding pills, much to Xavier’s chagrin. And it was something that surprised the other guild members, as they thought that the fruits and vegetables were more than enough. But how could it be enough in the mind of the heir who saw just how cool these combatants were?!
