Chapter 327: Administrative Issues Achoo! Duke Leander noted that it must be because this embarrassing rat before him peed his pants, but it sure was impossible for him to be coming down with a cold, right? Maybe he’d have to check lest he infects his son with something outrageous! And who knows what kind of things he’d get if he lingered in this place for any longer? Baron Ray Firth squirmed as Duke Leander stopped mid-hit. He would’ve died if that swing had connected. He could tell. And for a moment, he really did see his past life flash before him. Not that it was any good, but he could have sworn that when those eyes blazed earlier, he was going to die. Of course, he still would. But only after the Duke had gotten the mileage he needed from him. He needed to set an example and this scum was going to be a good one. He figured that a public precedent would make their lives easier, and he was going to start with him. And this particular guy would learn how it would’ve been much better if that hit connected, for at least then, he’d die a baron. As if that title would mean anything when worn by someone who didn’t deserve it. And while many would criticize the wealth and extravagance of these nobles, many would retract the moment they learn of the sacrifices they went through to get there. Much like the people hanging out by the day care’s VIP Lounge. If one could ignore their expressions as they sipped their drinks that came with tiny umbrellas, then they’d be able to see several familiar faces. Many of whom, at one point, needed limb regeneration or something similar for their near-death experiences, as they contributed generously to the war against corruption. And that was what Killian Nox was seeing the moment he finally arrived after almost two hours of going through the correct procedures. Of course, he had to pass by the military headquarters for formality, but even then, he was surprised at the sudden difference in outlook and how the people there carried themselves with a spring in their steps. "???" But how could the people not have such excitement when there was an unspoken secret that had gotten around by the looks on the people’s faces? And more importantly, by the sudden return of people who were supposed to be out of commission? They weren’t allowed to talk about it, but anyone able to at least correlate would have a general idea. And it had done wonders for the people waiting to be deployed, for they knew that they could try fighting with fewer reservations. One would just need to stay alive, and there was hope of returning and being nursed back to health. In fact, this was the general consensus among the families of these soldiers. While it was still as risky as ever, just knowing that there was another possibility made the noose around their necks less constricting. If only they could talk about it openly and thank the people responsible for this hope. But for now, all they could do was look for negative posts and squash them to hell. Also, maybe pass by the place occasionally to see if rats were waiting outside to do unthinkable things. And that was the scene that initially greeted the older brother, who lined up outside like everyone else. He was obviously sensitive to the presence of people. Still, as he observed the other nobles, who also noticed but ignored the civilian lurkers, he realized that this must’ve been a regular scene. Eventually, he understood why. For when his skepticism upon seeing the facade of this place had been replaced by awe at that gilded door, the chief of staff figured that his brother was about to get more pocket money once they saw each other. Sigh. Figures. Like that one would ever bet on anything. He’d seen the news, and they really did this place dirty by withholding the most crucial detail. Spiritual Energy. While the place was talked about for its facilities and overall effect on health and relaxation, people were likely to avoid mentioning spiritual energy, lest it become bombarded by guests and enemies alike. He could see why. For even now, he was benefiting just by standing by the door. And he hadn’t even gotten to the most talked-about areas. Surprisingly, though, he was perplexed to learn that his brother hadn’t been back even after two hours, but was luckily let in because Jax was able to vouch for this appointment. It was just that he couldn’t ask him for anything yet, as the redhead was swamped with work. Yes. Jax was surprised to come back to a whole lot of stations needing assistance. But what was more surprising was how it had been a while since he’d seen the others. However, they usually had things to tend to in the space, and by default, only Ollie would be seen outside with him. So by the grace of everything unholy, he, as the temporary superior, had been in charge of answering questions and hearing reports from Ada and Princess Kira. And the tree hugger swore he’d just work harder on plants because he was not meant for this administrative work or having to deal with the nobles and their never-ending questions about the next VIP store update. So, the poor, overwhelmed guild member decided to borrow the strengths of a giant by carrying around one initially unwilling participant—Tortie. The bribe cost Jax a lot of pain, but it was much better than what he had to deal with earlier. Only now, he was free enough to be cornered by the universal big brother, Killian. Ever imposing and curt, Killian’s aura wasn’t reduced by the fruit platter he had been graciously protecting. And normally, Jax wouldn’t have minded because he had never really had to keep obvious secrets. Sure, he was keeping the identity of the Imperial Crown Prince a secret, but no one really went up to him to ask whether or not Xavier was the prince. It didn’t even feel like a secret he had to keep. But the look on the older brother’s face said otherwise, and Jax had never really been good with keeping anything in. So, even before Killan could ask, Jax bolted out to look for Kyle! "..." Crickets. It was crickets everywhere as his other friends were nowhere to be found. Worse still, when the redhead attempted to go enter Ollie’s house to go back and see what was taking them forever, he was surprised he couldn’t go in. What was wrong? He couldn’t help but be alarmed. And so he tried reaching them via his terminal, but to no avail. His messages were being sent, but his calls weren’t going through. So, what was he supposed to do with the inquisitor who had just arrived? He paced. And paced some more. A very good question. But better yet, what was the giant supposed to tell the excited father who was on the way back from a refreshing exercise and fumigation? Nothing. But they should be alright, right? In particular, Luca. For if there was one thing he knew about, it was the fact that this dungeon would disappear with him to the afterlife. Or did he understand it wrong? Shit.
