Chapter 91: Don’t you want me? Augustine let out a long sigh, tilting his head back to stare at the ceiling as he struggled not to lose his patience. "It’s already begun," he muttered. "No idea what kind of trouble she’ll cause tonight." His fingers absentmindedly brushed his neck as he recalled how she had bitten him when she was drunk last time. That sting seemed to linger even now. "You really are a handful," he grumbled, glancing down at her flushed face. "Why did you get drunk?" Anne giggled, waving her hand carelessly. "Because I’m happy." She gestured animatedly toward the side, swaying slightly as she did. "That Denis... he is so full of himself. He walks around like he owns the world, like everything revolves around him." Her lips curled into a mischievous smirk. "But the best part is, he is an absolute fool." Augustine raised a brow, intrigued. Anne suddenly motioned for him to come closer, her eyes twinkling with mischief. Curious, he leaned in. "Tania is playing him," she whispered conspiratorially. "She is deceiving him, and he doesn’t even realize it." A quiet chuckle escaped her lips. "And you know what? He deserves it. He should be betrayed—he should feel the same heartbreak he caused me. I can’t wait to see his disappointment. Isn’t it funny?" She tilted her head and blinked at him slowly. Augustine studied her, his expression softening. He could see the pain beneath her drunken amusement, the scars left behind by Denis’s betrayal. Without a word, he reached out and placed a hand gently on her head, his fingers caressing her hair. "You want to see him suffer? Don’t worry. I’ll make sure you get exactly what you want." Anne couldn’t understand what he was saying, but the grin on her face lingered. "Now, enough talking. We’re going home," Augustine declared. "But I want to drink more," she protested, struggling weakly against his hold. Augustine tightened his grip just enough to keep her steady. "No more," he said firmly. "You’ve had enough for one night." Anne pouted, but he didn’t let go. With one swift motion, he started leading her toward the exit, keeping a firm grip around her waist as he led her outside. Tania, who had just ended the call with Denis, saw the scene. She lowered her phone slowly, her fingers tightening around it until her knuckles turned white. A bitter wave of resentment churned inside her as she watched Augustine gently guide Anne away, his hand steady on her back. The tenderness in his gestures stung more than she wanted to admit. Her boyfriend had just abandoned her without a second thought. She had waited for him, expecting to leave together, only to find out he was long gone—without so much as a word. But Anne was with her husband, taking her out with care. The sight made her chest tighten with suppressed anger. "How is she so lucky?" Tania muttered under her breath. Anne should have been the one drowning in sorrow after breaking up with Denis. She should have been miserable, alone, lost. Instead, she seemed perfectly fine—happier, even. That thought alone made Tania’s blood boil. Her jaw clenched as she dialed a number. "Hello, Enzo?" she said, her voice clipped, trying to mask her frustration. "Hey," came the response. "Can you come pick me up? I’m stranded here alone." "I’m coming. Send me the address." She ended the call and quickly sent the location. But as she looked up, her eyes landed on Augustine and Anne, their figures disappearing from her sight. A sharp pang twisted in her chest. She had loved Denis for years, yet he had never treated her the way Augustine treated Anne. While Denis still wavered on the idea of marriage, Augustine—who had barely known Anne—had married her on a whim and was making it work. The realization seared through her, filling her heart with a heavy mix of jealousy and resentment. As soon as Augustine and Anne stepped out, Gustave was already waiting with the car, pulling up smoothly and hopping out to open the back door. Augustine helped Anne inside before sliding in next to her. She huffed, crossing her arms. "Why are we leaving so early?" she whined. "The night is still young—we could have more fun." Augustine reached over, clicking her seatbelt into place. "You have an interview tomorrow," he reminded her. "Do you remember?" "Interview?" Her pout deepened, and she scratched her head as if trying to dig through the fog of her intoxicated mind. Then, suddenly, her face lit up with realization. "Oh! Yes, my interview! At my husband’s office." She giggled, her arms snaking around his neck. "My husband is so good—He reminds me of everything, takes care of me...I like him," she cooed, pulling him in closer. Augustine stiffened as her lips formed an exaggerated pout. She was about to kiss him. His eyes darted to the front seat, and sure enough, Gustave was sneaking glances at them through the rearview mirror, clearly amused. "Gustave," Augustine’s voice dropped into a dangerous warning. "If you dare sneak another look, consider your paycheck gone this month." Gustave immediately straightened, gripping the wheel tightly as he stared firmly at the road ahead. Anne, oblivious to everything, giggled against Augustine’s skin. "Now where were we?" she murmured, pressing closer. "Anne, stop," he hissed, trying to pry her off. "Why?" she slurred, lips brushing against his jaw. "You were about to kiss me behind the pillar earlier. Now I want to give you that kiss." His frustration mounted as he stared at her flushed face, her lips slightly parted. ’Why is she so damn difficult?’ he thought. She was clinging to him now, teasing him, acting all intimate, but he knew the moment morning came, she would forget everything as if nothing had happened between them. Anne let out a frustrated huff, pushing against his chest. "Why are you resisting now?" she grumbled. "Don’t you want me?" His gaze darkened, raw desire burning beneath the surface. Of course, he wanted her. Every part of him ached to claim her, to lose himself in her, but not like this. Not when she was too drunk to understand what she was doing. He wanted her to remember their intimacy, every moment of their lovemaking. "You have no idea how much I want you," he whispered, his fingers tilting her chin up so their eyes met. "You’re driving me insane, making it impossible to hold back. Do you have any idea how hard it is to resist you?" Anne blinked up at him, her intoxicated mind struggling to grasp the weight of his words. "Hold back?" she repeated with confusion. "Why? Don’t you like me? Is there someone else in your heart?"
