Chapter 162: Tania’s drama The question caught Anne off guard. She hesitated. Augustine hadn’t mentioned anything about a honeymoon, not even in passing. A small pang settled in her chest, but she masked it quickly. ’He must be busy. That’s all,’ she told herself. Anne straightened her posture and gave a faint, composed smile. "We have both had our hands full lately. There is no need to rush." Tania’s lips curled into a satisfied grin. "Oh, of course. Not everyone gets time for romance." Anne’s eyes turned colder. "Love isn’t just about grand gestures or romantic getaways," she said. "It’s about who stays when things fall apart, who holds your hand in silence, who remains loyal — even when it’s hard." Tania’s smile faltered for a moment. She had wanted to see Anne break. She had wanted to provoke her, but Anne’s restraint, her grace under pressure, only deepened the burn of not having the final word. Anne walked away to join Audrey near the stage. A small ache had settled behind her ribs. For the first time, she wondered why Augustine hadn’t mentioned a honeymoon for once. Behind her, Tania’s voice rang out, "Anne, wait a second." Before Anne could fully turn, a hand grabbed her wrist. Tania intentionally dug her sharp nails into Anne’s skin. "Ow," Anne winced, instinctively jerking her hand away with a sharp motion. Tania stumbled backward, letting herself fall with exaggerated clumsiness. She clutched her stomach and whimpered. "My baby... help me... please..." Everything stopped. The room, once buzzing with the movement of decorators and crew, fell into stunned silence. The decorator holding a bouquet froze, mouth parted. The florist blinked, petals trembling in her hands. From the ladder above, the lighting tech stared in disbelief. Audrey rushed to Anne. "What the hell was that?" she asked, eyes darting from Anne’s wide-eyed face to Tania curled on the floor. "I didn’t do anything," Anne said, stunned. Her wrist throbbed, red crescents blooming where Tania’s nails had pierced her skin. Tania groaned louder, squeezing her eyes. "My baby... someone call Denis... call an ambulance..." Just then, the main doors burst open. Denis entered, phone still in hand. His eyes widened at the sight before him. "Tania!" he rushed forward, kneeling beside her. "What happened?" Tania’s lashes fluttered, her eyes wet and glassy. "She... Anne pushed me." Her voice cracked with desperation. "What—?" Anne stared at her, incredulous. Denis’s expression turned cold as he looked up at Anne. "Why would you do that?" he demanded. "I only showed her the ring and the gown," Tania continued, sobbing into his shoulder. "I didn’t know she’d get so jealous... so angry. I swear, Denis, I wasn’t trying to upset her. But she tried to hurt our baby..." A strange sense of satisfaction hit his heart upon hearing Tania’s words. ’Anne is still jealous of Tania,’ a voice whispered in his head. This thought was enough to make him feel that Anne still cared about him, that deep down, she wasn’t over him. It fueled his desire to get her back. There was a flicker of triumph in his gaze, but he maintained a stern look. Right now, he had to ensure Tania and her baby were safe. Denis scooped Tania into his arms with ease. "I’m taking her to the hospital," he muttered as he carried her out of the hall. Tania clung tighter to his chest, glancing over his shoulder. Her tear-streaked face twisted into a slight, almost imperceptible smirk. Anne remained rooted to the spot, her heart pounding like a drum in her chest. The scene replayed in her mind—Tania’s crocodile tears, Denis’s accusing glare, the sickening feeling of being misunderstood. It was all too familiar. Tania’s games. Denis’s blind belief. Nothing had changed. Audrey took her hand gently, inspecting the crescent cuts on her wrist. Her gaze tightened at the sight. "Wait a moment. I have band-aids," Audrey murmured, digging into her purse. She pulled out a small pack and peeled off a band-aid, carefully pressing it over the cuts. "You alright?" she asked, tilting her head to catch Anne’s eye. Anne gave a small, forced nod and drew her hand back. "Let’s get out of here." Audrey linked her arm with Anne’s and gave her a bright, encouraging smile, as if trying to sweep away the heavy air lingering around them. "Forget her. Let’s go eat something good. And then we’ll go shopping. I know a boutique that just got a new collection in—designer stuff. I’ll help you pick the perfect dress for the party. One that’ll shut every mouth in the room." Anne smiled weakly. She didn’t want to ruin her mood because of Tania’s pathetic drama. "Okay, let’s go." With that, the two women walked out of the hall, heads held high. ~~~~~~~~~~ Tania reclined on the bed, pretending to be worried as she looked at the doctor, who was checking her pulses. The doctor adjusted his stethoscope and said calmly, "Her sugar level dropped slightly, which caused the dizziness. She just needs to rest more." As their eyes met, Tania subtly tilted her head, sending him a silent signal. Picking up on it instantly, the doctor gave a brief nod and added, "The baby is doing fine." Denis exhaled slowly, relief flickering across his face. "Thank you, doctor." The doctor offered a tight nod and left the room. The moment they were alone, Denis’s demeanor shifted. His expression darkened with a scowl. "If anything had happened to the baby, I wouldn’t have forgiven you." Tania’s eyes widened in shock, her lips parting slightly. "Why are you scolding me? Anne attacked me. She is jealous — she wants to hurt me and the baby." But Denis wasn’t moved. "Don’t pretend with me, Tania. I know exactly what you are doing." He jabbed a finger toward her, his gaze full of warning. "You showed her those pictures on purpose. You knew it would provoke her. I told you to stay away from Anne and Augustine. You ignored me." Tania shrank back slightly at the force of his anger, but Denis was relentless. "This is the final warning," he said fiercely. "If you interfere with them again and jeopardize my business plan, you’ll regret it." Without waiting for a response, he turned and stormed out. "Denis!" Tania shouted after him, but he didn’t even turn back. The door swung shut behind him with a sharp thud. "Ugh!" she growled in frustration, slamming her fist into the mattress. Her chest heaved, eyes burning with fury. "How did things come to this?" she muttered, teeth clenched. Denis, who once always stood by her, who used to believe every word of her, had scolded her, doubted her. He hadn’t defended Anne exactly, but he hadn’t accused her either. That shift in him stung worse than any slap. "You’ve gone soft for her, haven’t you?" Her nails dug into the blanket. "Fine. Just wait, Denis. I’ll turn this around. I’ll make sure you throw her out of this family with your own hands."
