Chapter 17: Moving on to the next Chapter of my life. Anne strode into her office, barely sparing a glance at the thick stack of files as she dropped them carelessly onto the desk. With a sigh, she plopped into her chair, stretching her arms above her head before leaning back comfortably. Her lips curled into a smirk. "Denis Beaumont," she muttered under her breath. "You’ve seen the dedicated and hardworking Anne before—the one who followed your orders without question, never giving you a chance to complain. But now? Things have changed." She crossed her legs, completely ignoring the files in front of her. There was no way she would work for Denis—not anymore. Reaching for her phone, she unlocked the screen and lifted it, angling it perfectly. A few quick snaps later, she reviewed the selfies, ensuring that the diamond ring on her finger was clearly visible. With a satisfied smile, she tapped on her social media app, her fingers gliding over the keyboard as she typed a caption. ’Moving on to the next Chapter of my life. Excited...’ With a smirk, she hit post. Almost instantly, her notifications exploded—likes, comments, and messages pouring in as people rushed to congratulate her. And then—Her phone buzzed with an incoming call. A smile broke across her face as she saw the name flashing on the screen. Audrey. Without hesitation, she answered. "Hello?" "Anne!" Audrey’s voice came through the speaker, laced with anxiety. "Are you okay? I was so worried when I couldn’t reach you last night." Anne shrugged. She didn’t want to ruin her mood by talking about what had happened last night. "My phone was dead," she said casually, twirling a loose strand of hair around her finger. "And don’t worry, I’m fine." Audrey let out a relieved sigh. "That’s a relief. But hey, what’s with that post?" Anne grinned, biting back a laugh as her best friend’s tone turned from concern to full-blown curiosity. "A ring? Moving on to the next Chapter?" Audrey fired off rapidly. "Are you married?" Anne’s eyes gleamed mischievously. "What do you think?" "Wait..." Audrey’s voice dropped into a dramatic pause. Then, she squealed so loudly that Anne had to pull the phone slightly away from her ear. "Oh. My. God! You were telling the truth!" She gasped. "You’re actually married!" "Hmm." Anne hummed, enjoying her friend’s excitement. "Oh, God, Anne!" Audrey was practically bouncing through the phone. "Who is this guy? I need details." Anne smirked. "I’ll introduce you to him soon. But now is not the right time. He is a bit... shy, you know." Audrey groaned dramatically. "Come on, Anne! At least show me his picture!" Anne laughed. "I promise I won’t show it to anyone," Audrey added. Anne was about to come up with another teasing response when she noticed Tania approaching. Her body stiffened. The smile on her face froze. Anne’s grip tightened around her phone. "Audrey, I’ll talk to you later," she muttered hurriedly before disconnecting the call. She placed the phone down, straightened her posture, her entire demeanor shifting. "Well, well—looks like you’re busy chatting instead of working," Tania scoffed with sarcasm. "Denis won’t be happy about that. You know he doesn’t tolerate slacking at work." Crossing her arms over her chest, Anne flashed a taunting smile. "Are you going to report me? Then go ahead. I’d love to see what he has to say." Tania’s smug expression cracked, twisting into one of anger. "Don’t be so proud," she snapped. "You’re nothing compared to me. It’s always been me he loves – me he cares about." With an exaggerated flick of her wrist, she swept her hair over her shoulder, tilting her neck slightly and flaunting the red marks trailing along her skin. "See?" she said sweetly, feigning innocence. "He can’t resist me. Even at his office..." She deliberately let the sentence hang, letting the implications—and the marks—speak for themselves. Anne’s stomach flipped in disgust. Tania watched her closely, drinking in the reaction, relishing it. She leaned in, placing her hands firmly on the desk. "He can’t stop touching me," she whispered. "He told me I was the only one who could drive him crazy." Anne arched a brow, completely unimpressed. She let out a slow exhale and fixed Tania with a withering stare. "Are you going to describe which position you had sex with him? If so, I really don’t have time for this." Tania flushed in anger. "Don’t be so cocky." She slapped the table. "Why are you still here? Why are you shamelessly clinging to him? Why can’t you just leave him?" Anne’s lips curled, but it wasn’t a smile—it was a sneer. A cold, taunting gleam flickered in her eyes, the challenge unmistakable. "I want to leave," she said with a casual shrug. "But he won’t let me." Tania was losing control. And Anne was just getting started. "He slept with you. He got you pregnant. And yet—he still refuses to part with me." Anne leaned in slightly. "He told me his girlfriend can only be me." Her lips curled higher. "So tell me—who is the shameless one here?" The words struck like a slap. Tania’s eyes flashed with fury. "You bitch," she spat. "Who do you think you are?" Her hand shot up, aiming to strike Anne across the face. But Anne was faster. She caught Tania’s wrist mid-air. Their eyes locked—Tania burning with anger, Anne simmering with cold defiance. Slowly, Anne rose to her feet, towering over Tania. "If you’re so confident that he loves you, why can’t you make him leave me?" Anne pushed her hand away with a sharp flick of her wrist, forcing her a step back. "Why do you have to come here, throwing yourself at him? Seducing him? If you were truly secure in your place, you wouldn’t have to fight me for him." Her gaze turned icy. "If you really want to be with him, persuade him to leave me alone." She pulled out her resignation letter from the drawer and slammed it on the table. "Here is my resignation letter." Tania’s eyes flickered between Anne and the paper, suspicion creeping into her features. "Help me get his signature on this," Anne said, her gaze unwavering. "Once he approves my resignation, I’ll walk away from him for good." Tania snatched the letter off the desk and stormed away. She paused in the empty hallway and looked at the resignation letter in her hand. A wicked smirk curled on her lips. ’So, you think you can leave just like that?’ she thought darkly. ’Not a chance.’ With a sharp tug, she tore the paper into shreds and tossed the pieces into the trash. "You won’t escape so easily, Anne. I’ll ruin your image and make Denis fire you, blacklist you so you can’t come back again in the future." Clutching her phone, she pressed it firmly against her ear and strode away with renewed determination.
