Chapter 245: The humiliation Megan’s eyes lit up at Denis’s words. She hadn’t managed to win over Augustine, but Denis was a consolation prize. He was wealthy, good-looking, and came from a powerful, influential family—everything she imagined in the man she wanted to marry. Sure, there were no real feelings between them, not yet. But Megan was confident that she would win his heart easily. "I also think the same," she said quickly, eager to seize the moment. "My father always said you were the ideal match for me. And now..." she leaned in, her foot trailing suggestively along his leg, "after meeting you in person, I think he was absolutely right." She flashed him a seductive smile, eyes gleaming. Denis’s expression shifted. His gaze darkened with raw desire. "I feel the same," he said, voice thick with lust. In one swift movement, he tossed back the rest of his drink, then snatched the glass from her hand and set it aside. He pulled her in, crashing his lips onto hers in a rough, hungry kiss. Megan let out a soft gasp, surprised by the sudden intensity, but she didn’t resist. Instead, she melted into the moment, threading her fingers through his hair as she kissed him back just as fiercely. Within seconds, Denis dragged her onto his lap, his hands exploring her curves without hesitation, the kiss deepening, fueled by heat and impulse. But just as things began to spiral, his phone buzzed in his pocket. He broke the kiss, breathless, and reached for it. "Hold on," he murmured, pulling it out and glancing at the screen. Haris’s name flashed. "Don’t answer," Megan said urgently, cupping his face and making him look at her. "It can wait." Denis smirked. "Impatient, huh? I like that." Instead of answering the call, Denis dropped the phone beside him. His focus returned to Megan as he pulled her closer, his hands tracing the lines of her body with growing urgency. Megan responded instantly, her fingers moving to his shirt, fumbling with the buttons. But before she could go further, Denis caught her hands and stopped her. "No need for that." Megan gave a knowing smirk, her fingers drifting instead to the waistband of his pants. She unbuttoned and unzipped them with ease, her eyes locked on his. Without breaking eye contact, she reached into her bag and pulled out a condom. Denis arched a brow. "Always prepared?" "Not always," she said with a sly grin. "But tonight is different." She tore the packet open and rolled it over his length, the movements of her fingers fluid, confident. Denis gripped her waist, lifting her just slightly, pulling her closer. "You have done this before," he muttered. His voice held a mix of teasing and edge, though his mind was already slipping elsewhere. He positioned himself and then entered her. "Oh, God, you are sleek and wet," he muttered as he started moving, his body tensing. He tried to stay present with Megan, with what was happening, but the sensation, the rhythm, triggered Anne’s memory, the longing for her that burned in his heart relentlessly. Anne Her name ghosted through his mind like smoke. Her face. Her voice. Her smile. The way she looked at him, the way she once felt in his arms – all came crashing into his mind. Eyes closed, lost in the haze, he whispered her name under his breath, barely audible. The whispered name hit Megan like a slap. She froze, every inch of her body going rigid. Whatever thrill or pleasure she had felt moments ago vanished in an instant, replaced by a surge of cold fury. Anne. The name seemed to haunt her wherever she went. First, Anne stole Augustine’s heart, dashing Megan’s dream of marrying him. Now, she lingered in Denis’s mind like a ghost that wouldn’t let go. Megan’s pride shriveled as a wave of humiliation swept over her. What did Anne have that she didn’t? Why did both men love Anne? Rage flared through her. She dug her nails into Denis’s shoulders. But it only added to Denis’s wildness. He intensified his movement, pumping her harder and deeper. With a final thrust, he let out a strained breath and collapsed back against the sofa, spent. He barely looked at her as he shifted away and pushed her aside, dropping his head against the back of the sofa, eyes closed. Megan lay beside him, eyes blank, feeling used, discarded. Then, the soft buzz of a phone broke the silence. She turned her head. Denis’s phone lit up nearby, flashing with a new message. Her eyes caught the screen—Anne’s photo glowing back at her as his wallpaper. Her stomach twisted. The humiliation curdled into pure hatred. She clenched her fists against the sofa, her nails digging into her palms. Her lips moved in a silent curse. ’Anne, I’ll destroy you,’ she vowed silently. Denis picked up his phone and checked the message. He glanced down at Megan as he buttoned up his pants and tucked his shirt neatly. "I’ll drop you home," he said indifferently as he rose to his feet. Megan slowly sat up, adjusting her dress and pulling her underwear back into place. Her expression was icy. "No need. I brought my own car." Denis gave a short nod, unaffected. "Suit yourself." Without another word, he walked out of the booth, leaving her behind. Megan’s eyes blazed as she stared at the space Denis had left behind, rage boiling beneath her skin. She reached into her bag, yanked out her phone, and dialed Lorie’s number with shaky fingers. It rang far too long for her patience before, finally, Lorie’s hesitant voice came through. "Hello?" "If you really want out of that miserable marriage, you better move faster," Megan hissed through gritted teeth, "I’m giving you one week. Terminate Anne or forget the money." Lorie gasped. "One week? Please... I need more time. I’m not even sure—" "I don’t have time," Megan spat, her voice rising sharply. "Either do it or step aside. I’ll find someone else who can." Panic surged through Lorie. This was her only shot at freedom, her only chance to escape Robert’s control. She couldn’t afford to let Megan slip away. "No, no, wait... Don’t call anyone else," she said quickly, her voice trembling. "I’ll do it. I’ll get it done. Just... I need one thing—someone to update me on her movements. If I can track her, I’ll know when the time is right." "Fine," Megan muttered coldly. "I’ll handle it." With that, she ended the call and lowered her phone slowly, eyes gleaming with vengeance. "Anne," she murmured under her breath, "your time is running out."
