Chapter 128: Cold-blooded murder Tania blinked away her tears, determination hardening her expression. She wasn’t going to leave—not now, not until she completed what she had set out to do. Though she wouldn’t reveal her true plans to him. "Alright," she nodded slowly, pushing herself to her feet. "Let’s go." Enzo, relieved by her response, pulled her into his arms. "I promise I’ll make you happy. You’ll forget all of this in time." Tania didn’t respond, nor did she hug him back. She stood motionless in his arms, her eyes empty and distant. He released her after a while, taking her hand instead. "Come on. Let’s leave this place together." Tania pulled her hand away from his grasp. "You go on ahead and wait for me in the car. I need a moment with my parents." Enzo didn’t stop her. He simply nodded. "Alright, but don’t take too long." He turned and walked away. Tania stood there, her body rigid, eyes flashing with cold resolve. She pulled a knife from her bag, her focus locked on Enzo. With lightning speed, she lunged at him and drove the blade into his back. Enzo’s breath caught sharply, his eyes widening as the excruciating pain shot through his back, a paralyzing numbness spreading from his spine down to his legs. Before he could even process what had happened, another stab pierced deeper into him. His knees buckled, and he coughed up blood, his vision blurring. A third stab sent him crumpling to the ground, his face flushed as he struggled to remain conscious. He turned his head and looked up at Tania, but what he saw in her eyes made him freeze. He couldn’t recognize her. The woman he had loved, the one he had dreamed of a future with, was gone. In her place stood a cold stranger, her gaze burning with an intensity he couldn’t recognize. "Why?" he managed to rasp. His chest heaved with the weight of his disbelief. "I loved you." Tania’s expression remained cold and unmoving. "Sorry, Enzo," she said flatly, her voice devoid of any remorse. "You’ve become a threat to me. I can’t let you go." Enzo’s hand trembled as he reached toward her, desperate. But the life slipped out of him too quickly, the light dimming from his eyes as his body went limp. He collapsed, his final breath rasping in the air. Tania stood there for a moment, staring at his lifeless form. She pulled a handkerchief from her bag and carefully wiped the blood from the blade. "I have no personal grudge against you, Enzo," she murmured, her voice eerily calm. "But you’ve become an obstacle. No one will stand in the way of me marrying Denis." With the knife and bloodied handkerchief tucked back into her bag, she turned and walked away. ~~~~~~~~ At the hospital... Anne met with the doctor, who assured her about her father. "We’ve been monitoring his brain activity," he said, a spark of optimism in his eyes. "There are signs. We think he might wake up soon. Talk to him—he can hear you. It might help bring him back." His words lifted a weight off her shoulders. Relief and joy washed over Anne all at once. She broke into a wide smile, though her eyes filled with tears. "Yes," she said quickly, but her voice trembled. "I’ll talk to him. Thank you so much." She left the room and made her way straight to her father’s bedside with hope in her heart. Lorie had just arrived at the hospital when she spotted Anne rushing down the corridor. Bitterness flared in her chest. "There you are," she muttered under her breath. "Because of you, I was humiliated. I won’t let you walk away untouched." She dug into her bag and pulled out her phone. Her fingers moved quickly over the screen. "Mr. Robert," she said quietly once the call connected. "If you still want Anne, listen closely." Glancing around, she slipped into a shadowed corner of the hallway. Her voice dropped lower as she spoke cautiously. Anne stepped into the hospital room, and her gaze fell on her father lying motionless in the bed. Her eyes filled with tears again, but she forced a soft smile and walked over. Sitting beside him, she gently took his hand in hers. "You’ve been asleep for so long," she murmured. "But now...it’s time to wake up. I have something important to tell you." Her voice trembled. She swallowed hard, trying to steady herself. "I’m married," she added. "His name is Augustine. He is kind, reliable. And he really cares about me." Anne’s eyes shone as she spoke. The more she talked about him, the more her face lit up. She told her father how Augustine had gone out of his way to transfer him here, how he had arranged the best doctors just for him. "And tonight, he is taking me to meet his grandfather," she said with a soft laugh, brushing away the tears. "I’m nervous. I have no idea what kind of gift to bring." She looked at her father’s still face, hoping that he could hear all of it and wake up to give him some piece of advice. The door creaked open, and Anne turned sharply. The tenderness on Anne’s face vanished in an instant, replaced by cold steel when she saw Lorie walking in. Her fingers instinctively tightened around her father’s hand. "You," she said, voice clipped and sharp. Lorie smiled, walking in with deliberate calm. "Yes, it’s me. I came to check on Dad—but I didn’t expect to find you here too." She stopped by the bed, her smile vanishing. "Anne, I assume you saw my apology." Her tone softened, her gaze turning apologetic. "I truly regret what I did. Could you please forgive me?" Anne let out a bitter snort. "Forgive you? Lorie, you bullied me for years. I let it go. You and your mother tried to shove me into a marriage with a thug, and I stayed quiet. But this time?" Her voice grew colder. "This time, you dragged my name through the mud, spread lies, and damaged not just my reputation, but the company’s and the CEO’s." She stood up, her posture firm. "And now you think a few fake words of regret will wipe that away? No, Lorie. This simple apology isn’t enough to earn my forgiveness." Lorie’s hands curled into fists at her sides. Rage bubbled inside her, but she quickly swallowed it down. Now wasn’t the time to explode. She lowered her head, softening her features. "I know saying sorry isn’t enough," she said, her tone laced with something that resembled remorse. "But I mean it, Anne. I want to make things right. Just tell me what to do—I’ll do anything. Please." She stared at Anne with pleading eyes, waiting for a reaction. But Anne didn’t budge. Her face was stone. "You don’t have to do anything for me," Anne replied flatly. "Just stay away from me."
