Tania’s face contorted with rage, her body trembling with barely restrained fury. "You... Who gave you the nerve to speak to me like that?" she hissed, raising her hand in blind anger, ready to strike. But Anne was faster. She caught Tania’s wrist in mid-air and shoved it away. And before Tania could react, Anne’s hand snapped forward in a sharp, resounding slap. The impact whipped Tania’s head to the side, her neatly styled hair tumbling out of place. Now, be reasonable. Accept your mistake and apologize to her. If you do, I might consider letting this go." Anne scoffed, crossing her arms over her chest. "Wow," she drawled sarcastically. "Your sense of judgment is absolutely fantastic. I was here, minding my own business, enjoying the party. Not bothering anyone. And yet, you two came to me, belittled my husband. You tried to drag me down. And now, because I refused to let you walk all over me, you want to twist the story and make it seem like I’m the one in the wrong?" She let out a short, incredulous laugh. "How ridiculous." Her eyes locked onto Denis’s firmly. "I will never apologize to her." But before she could take a few steps, Denis’s hand shot out, gripping her arm in a forceful hold. "Let go of me," she snapped, jerking her arm back with a sharp movement. The back of her hand struck his face with a sharp crack, landing squarely on his nose. Denis stumbled back, dumbfounded. A sharp pain exploded across his face, stars dancing in his vision. His hand instinctively flew to his nose, pressing against the throbbing ache. He scowled at Anne, disbelief flickering in his dark eyes. For a long moment, he simply stared at her in disbelief. For the past three years, Anne had never once dared to speak back to him, let alone lay a hand on him. Even though it wasn’t deliberate, she had still struck him. What frustrated him the most was the complete lack of remorse on her face, a sight that sent a sharp pang through his chest. She didn’t cower. She didn’t apologize. There was not even the slightest hesitation in her demeanor. She simply looked at him with that same unwavering strength that sent his heart into a painful twist. Denis!" A shocked gasp escaped Tania’s lips as she staggered slightly, her cheek burning from the force of the impact. "You slapped me again," she sputtered, her voice shaking with rage. "How dare you?" "You asked for it," Anne shot back. "Enough!" Denis growled, seizing Anne’s wrist in a bruising grip. "You are getting out of control. And trust me, I’d love nothing more than to put you back in your place." Anne gritted her teeth as she struggled against his hold. "Let go of me." Denis only tightened his grip, his fingers digging into her skin, determined to make her submit. He yanked Anne closer and lowered his voice to a menacing whisper. "You’re acting so high and mighty because of Augustine. Do you really think that loser can protect you?" His words were laced with condescension, spoken just low enough to keep Tania from overhearing. He sneered as he leaned in closer. "If you come back to me, I’ll buy you that antique necklace—worth millions." The more he spoke, the more disgusted she felt. He still didn’t get it. His arrogance blinded him to reality. Did he really believe she could be bought? That she would return to him just because he dangled expensive gifts in front of her? "Your money and gifts mean nothing to me," she said icily. "If I cared about such things, I would’ve taken everything from your house before I left." The flame of his anger burned higher at her words. He recalled how she had left everything he had ever given her—the designer dresses, expensive jewelry, and branded accessories. She had left them all untouched as if they meant nothing. The thought burned him from within. Meanwhile, Tania grew restless, unease creeping into her features as she watched Denis and Anne stand so close, their voices hushed in a private conversation.
