Chapter 130: A threat under disguise (Part – 2) Lorie hung up and turned back toward the table, her face calm. Anne was already eating, casually cutting into her steak. "He is on the way," Lorie said, sitting down. "He apologizes for the delay." Anne nodded without looking up, seemingly focused on her food. Lorie’s eyes flicked to the wine glass in front of Anne. "To new beginnings," she said, lifting her glass with a smile. Anne raised hers, too. "To new beginnings," she echoed, taking a sip, her gaze locked on Lorie the whole time. Lorie took a long drink, unaware of the switch. A triumphant glint flashed in her eyes as she set the glass down. ’It’s just a matter of time when everything will change,’ she thought. As the last bites of food were cleared from their plates, Anne leaned back on her chair, her fingers pressing against her forehead. Her expression was pinched as if she wasn’t feeling well. Lorie smirked as she noticed Anne in discomfort. But she masked her excitement with concern. "Are you alright?" Anne let out a soft groan. "I don’t know... I suddenly feel dizzy," she murmured, wincing. Lorie’s lips twitched into a subtle, triumphant smile. She quickly swapped it for a look of feigned alarm. "You don’t look well at all. Come on, let me help you." She rose from her seat and hooked her arm around Anne’s, guiding her out of the booth. Instead of heading toward the exit, she veered toward the hallway that led to the hotel rooms. Anne looked around. "Where are you taking me?" "You’re not well," Lorie replied smoothly. "Just lie down for a bit. I’ve arranged a room. Once my boyfriend arrives, we’ll take you home." Anne gave a small, weak nod and allowed herself to be led through the hallway. Augustine had to come to his office at Sphere Group to deal with some pressing matters. His pen moved swiftly across the pages, eyes scanning each line with focus. He was determined to wrap up the work quickly and go back to Anne. His concentration shattered when his phone buzzed. A deep frown creased his brow at the familiar number. "Hello?" he answered sharply. "Sir, something is wrong," the voice on the other end said, tight with urgency. "Miss Lorie took Madam into a hotel room at the Grand Hotel. You need to come. Now." Augustine shot up from his chair, heart pounding. "What?" His voice rose, tense. "Is she okay?" "She had lunch with Miss Lorie after visiting her father. But when they left the restaurant, Madam looked...not well. Like she was drugged. Something isn’t right." "I’m on my way. Don’t let anything happen to her," Augustine snapped, already storming out of the office. He ended the call and immediately dialed Anne’s number, shoving his phone to his ear. No answer. "Damn it," he muttered under his breath, jabbing the elevator button. The doors slid open, and he stepped inside, slamming the button for the ground floor. It didn’t take long for Augustine to reach the Grand Hotel. He jumped out of his car, phone to his ear, trying to reconnect with the caller from earlier. His pace was fast, eyes scanning every corner of the lobby as he pushed through the entrance. As he turned into the hallway, he collided hard with someone—his phone slipped from his hand, clattering loudly onto the polished floor. "Are you blind?" the woman snapped, rubbing her shoulder with a scowl. Augustine barely registered her voice at first, until she looked up and froze. It was Patricia. Her face drained of color as recognition hit her like a slap. She remembered him clearly. It was the same man who had beaten up Robert’s men that day at her house. That same fire now burned brighter in his eyes. "You," she choked out, backing a step before catching herself. Augustine stepped forward, towering over her. "Where is Anne?" he demanded. "What did you do to her?" Patricia’s pulse quickened under his glare—he radiated pure rage. But even through the fear, her mind worked fast. If she played it right, she could twist this to her advantage and turn him against Anne. She straightened up, feigning offense. "Why are you yelling at me?" she snapped. "The hotel called me. Said Anne is here... with a man. Can you imagine? I was waiting at the hospital like a fool, and she was here, sleeping with someone." She scoffed. "She has always been a disgrace. If I’d known she’d bring shame to the family like this, I’d never have let my husband adopt her." Augustine’s chest heaved with fury. His voice boomed through the hallway. "Where the hell is she?" Patricia’s heart raced, but she pushed aside the fear and firmly responded, "If you are looking for her, follow me." She strode towards the room where Lorie had kept Anne. She used the key card to unlock the door and barged inside. The dimly lit room revealed a man and a woman caught in an intimate embrace, their bodies entwined. The sounds of their pleasure quickly turned into frantic cries as the door suddenly swung open. The man, panic flashing across his face, scrambled out of bed, fumbling with his trousers. He tugged them up over his large belly, his hands shaking as he struggled to fasten them. The woman quickly hid beneath the blanket, cowered in shame. "What the hell is this?" Patricia demanded, her voice shaking with anger. Augustine stood there, his body rigid with rage as his eyes fixed on the disheveled scene before him. His heart twisted painfully as his gaze fell on the woman in the bed. The thought of Anne—his Anne—being with another man filled him with an overwhelming surge of betrayal. The fury burned in his chest. "You," he spat, his voice dripping with venom as he turned his murderous glare on the man. "I’ll kill you." In a blink, he lunged at the man, his fist connecting with Robert’s face with a sickening thud. The force of the blow sent Robert crashing to the floor, his hands instinctively covering his bleeding nose. "Ugh..." he groaned in pain. His eyes burned with anger, but when he met Augustine’s gaze, the color drained from his face. The fire of rage in his heart was replaced by a stark, white fear. ’It’s him...’ Robert thought to himself. He knew who he was dealing with, and it was a man who could easily kill him in an instant. His bravado faltered. "I didn’t do anything," Robert blurted out in a panic. "It’s her. She came to my room. She seduced me." His finger shook violently as it pointed toward the woman hiding under the blanket. Augustine, consumed by fury, barely heard a word. He gripped Robert’s throat, his hands trembling with rage. "You are asking for death," he growled. His bloodshot eyes glowed with anger as he squeezed harder, cutting off Robert’s air supply. "Mercy..." Robert gasped, weakly tapping at Augustine’s arm, but the man’s grip remained unyielding. "Why are you blaming him? It was Anne’s doing. She is the one who seduced him." Patricia’s sharp and accusatory voice sliced through the tense silence. "Who seduced whom?" A voice rang out, cutting through the air like a knife. All heads snapped toward the door. Anne stood there, calm and composed, her presence immediately commanding attention.
