Chapter 90: Did he recognize you as the president? Denis’s frown returned, more profound this time. "What is he doing with them?" he muttered under his breath, his mind struggling to process what he was seeing. The idea that Augustine, that nerd, that nobody, could have any connection with the mayor, let alone the president of the Sphere Group, was absurd. "No..." He shook his head, his expression darkening. "It has to be a coincidence." Yet, the sight of them standing together, speaking in low voices, made his stomach churn with unease. He stood rooted to the spot, caught between disbelief and the urge to step forward. Before he could make up his mind, the man in the grey suit began walking away, his assistant following closely behind. It took Denis a moment to snap out of his daze. He hurried forward, calling out, "Mr. Benett!" But the man didn’t stop. He didn’t even acknowledge him, continuing down the hall as if he hadn’t heard someone calling him. Instead, two other people turned to face him—Augustine and Gustave. Gustave leaned slightly toward his boss, lowering his voice in concern, "Did he recognize you as the president?" Augustine remained silent, his expression unreadable. Denis caught up, his gaze flickering between the two men before shifting back toward the corridor where the president had disappeared. His jaw clenched as frustration bubbled inside him. When the president and his assistant finally turned a corner and vanished from sight, Denis refocused his attention on Augustine, sizing him up with a mixture of suspicion and contempt. "You were just talking to the president of the Sphere Group," he said with a sharp edge of doubt in his tone. "How do you know him?" Augustine smirked, relieved that Denis hadn’t figured out the truth. Keeping his tone light and carefree, he said, "Of course, I know him. I was appointed by the Sphere Group. How could I not know the boss?" Denis ground his teeth in frustration. Jealousy burned in his chest. For weeks, he had been trying desperately to secure a meeting with the Sphere Group’s representatives, only to face rejection after rejection. And when he finally heard that the president himself was attending the party, he thought his chance had arrived. But just like before, it had slipped right through his fingers. The disappointment was infuriating, but what stung even more was who had access to the president – his good-for-nothing cousin. Augustine, the guy he had always dismissed as a loser, a nerd, a nobody – and yet, here he was, standing smugly before him, acting as if rubbing shoulders with the most powerful man in the business world was no big deal. Denis clenched his fists, swallowing down his resentment. "Why are you looking for him?" Augustine asked casually, feigning curiosity. Denis’s expression darkened. "Why would I tell you?" he snapped, his irritation bleeding into his voice. Augustine chuckled. "Well, I can’t blame you for wanting to meet him. Everyone does. But the boss is a busy man." He paused, watching the frustration flicker in Denis’s eyes before adding smoothly, "Getting an appointment with him isn’t easy. But... if you want, I could arrange something for you." Denis stiffened, his pride warring with his desperation. He did want to meet the president, but there was no way he would stoop so low as to ask Augustine for help. He would find a way on his own. "I don’t need your help," he spat through clenched teeth. "I’ll get his appointment myself." Augustine shrugged as if disappointed. "That won’t be happening for the next few months." He knew exactly why Denis was so desperate to meet the president. But it didn’t matter—he had no intention of letting the Beaumont Group get anywhere near the Sphere Group. "He is leaving tonight," Augustine continued smugly, watching Denis closely. "And no one knows when he’ll be visiting here." Denis’s expression twisted into a deep scowl, restlessness coursing through his veins. "What? He is leaving already!" The realization hit him like a punch to the gut. His only opportunity to meet the president was slipping away, and the idea of waiting months for another chance was unbearable. "His flight is in three hours," Augustine informed, adding to his restlessness. Denis’s body went rigid. A sense of urgency surged through him. ’I need to find him before he leaves.’ Without wasting another second, he spun around and stormed away. Augustine lifted his chin arrogantly, watching Denis’s retreating figure with satisfaction. A slow smirk played at his lips. Beside him, Gustave let out a low chuckle, his eyes gleaming with amusement. "You did that on purpose." "Of course." Augustine shoved his hands into his pockets. "I won’t let him rest. I’ll give him hope—only to crush it in the end. The game has already begun." When Augustine returned to the hall, his gaze immediately landed on Anne, slumped on the corner sofa, a half-filled glass of wine in her hand. ’I told her not to drink,’ he muttered inwardly, displeased. With a scowl on his face, he strode toward her, his movements stiff with frustration. "Are you still drinking?" he grumbled, snatching the glass from her. Anne pouted, stretching out her hand toward him like a spoiled child. "Mmm... give it back," she mumbled, her voice slurred. Her cheeks were flushed, her eyes hazy with intoxication, yet she still reached for more. Augustine didn’t entertain her request. He placed the glass aside, well out of her reach. "No more drinking," he said firmly. "Come with me." Before she could protest, he grabbed her arm and pulled her to her feet. The sudden movement sent her stumbling into his chest, and instinctively, his arms wrapped securely around her. Anne blinked up at him, her lips curling into a lazy smile. "You... my dear husband. You’re finally back." Augustine let out an exasperated sigh. "At least you still recognize me." She giggled, her fingers lazily tracing the sharp lines of his jaw. "Of course, I do. How could I ever forget such a handsome face?" His irritation wavered at her words, a small smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. Anne, oblivious to his reaction, continued in a dreamy tone. "You have a face that many women covet." She let out a soft laugh. "I saw the way they looked at you when you walked in earlier." Augustine arched a brow, intrigued. "Oh? I didn’t notice." She giggled again, swaying slightly in his arms. "But it doesn’t matter. They don’t stand a chance. You’re already taken."
