Could someone orchestrate something like that from prison? It seemed unlikely. His thoughts circled back to Oliver. But again, it didn’t make sense. Even with a troubled marriage, what kind of father would go so far as to harm his own child? His rational mind rejected the idea. Gustave spoke up again, more firmly this time. "What about Megan? "Meet me at Moon’s Bar. I want to get drunk tonight." The heaviness in her words struck Anne like a warning bell. She could feel it in her gut. Something was wrong with Audrey. "Alright. I’ll be there." After ending the call, Anne quickly texted Augustine: ’I’m meeting Audrey at the bar. I am heading out now. See you tonight.’ His response came a few minutes later: ’Alright, but don’t drink. Make sure Sam stays with you.’ Anne smiled to herself at his usual protective tone. She replied: ’I’m just meeting a friend, not sneaking off to a battlefield. I’ll be fine. No need for Sam.’ With that, she slipped her phone into her bag and headed out. But just as she reached the elevator, she froze. Her grip on her bag tightened, and a sour taste rose in her mouth. Megan was walking toward her, wearing a smug expression that Anne had come to recognize all too well. "Well, well... Anne," Megan said with mock sweetness. "Feeling let down? Did you really think getting close to Nathan would be enough to worm your way into the Granet family? It’s not that simple. Reports don’t lie." Anne didn’t care about it anymore. The desire to be accepted by the Granet family had died the moment Margaret hurled accusations and treated her so harshly. She had her own family now—Augustine and the baby. That was all she needed. "I’m actually relieved I’m not part of a family that includes someone as venomous as you," Anne retaliated. "Honestly, I’m lucky. God did me a favor. I want nothing to do with the Granets." She brushed past Megan, deliberately bumping her shoulder as she stepped into the elevator. Megan spun around, her face twisting in rage, ready to spit out another insult. But the elevator doors were already closing. Through the narrowing gap, she caught a final glimpse of Anne smirking, waving mockingly. "You—" Megan seethed, but the doors sealed shut. She stomped her foot, burning with frustration.
