Chapter 152: Irresistible Anne The next morning... "Stop here," Anne said quickly as the car neared the office building. Augustine frowned, reluctant. "Why? We could just walk in together. You are officially my secretary now." Anne laughed softly. "Exactly why we shouldn’t be seen arriving together. People will start whispering." She gave him a knowing look. "Remember, you promised — our marriage stays a secret for now." Augustine let out a heavy sigh, slumping slightly in his seat. How could he argue? It was his promise. "Alright," he grumbled, pulling the car to the curb. "Thank you," Anne said sweetly, flashing him a warm smile as she opened the door. But just as she was stepping away, Augustine hurried out of the car too. "Wait," he called. Anne turned back to see him striding toward her. Without a word, he wrapped his arms around her, holding her close. Anne smiled and returned the embrace. "Why so anxious?" she teased, resting her cheek against his chest. "We’ll be in the same office. You can call me anytime you miss me." "You mean," Augustine murmured near her ear, "I can summon you to serve me whenever I want." Anne’s cheeks flushed at the suggestive tone. "I’m bound to serve you," she said playfully, poking a finger against his chest. She pushed him back slightly with a mischievous glint in her eyes. "At the office, I’m your secretary. But at home, I’m your wife, your lover. So behave yourself at work. You can have your way when we are alone at home. Got it?" Augustine sighed dramatically, his hand over his heart. "Do I even have a choice?" Anne giggled. "No, you don’t. Now, go before you ruin our cover." She gave him a gentle shove toward the car. Utterly enchanted, Augustine smiled and slipped back into the car, rolling down the window to wave goodbye. Anne waved back, her heart warm, watching him drive away. But neither of them noticed the pair of cold eyes watching from a distance, hidden inside a car parked a little away on the side of the road. Megan was cruising toward the office when something caught her eye—Augustine’s car was parked by the side of the road. Her hands tightened on the wheel as she noticed Anne getting out of the car, followed by Augustine. "Anne?" Her foot slammed the brake, and she pulled over abruptly, eyes narrowing at the sight. A surge of disbelief and fury rushed through her. "Anne... in Augustine’s car? Was she with him all night?" The image burned into her mind, twisting her insides with rage. "Shameless woman," she hissed under her breath. "Throwing yourself at Augustine while seducing that old man for money? Disgusting. You’d sleep with anyone, wouldn’t you?" She sneered. "Just wait until Augustine sees who you really are. Let me collect more proof—then I’ll tear off that fake mask of yours for good." She slammed her foot on the gas and shot forward, speeding through the company gates. Inside Augustine’s office... Anne placed a neatly organized schedule on his desk. "You’ve got a luncheon with the Managing Director of Marsh Technology today," she said briskly. Then, holding out a sealed envelope, she added, "And this arrived yesterday." Augustine took the envelope with a quiet nod, carefully tearing it open. As he flipped through the contents, the corners of his lips curved upward in a subtle, knowing smile. Anne tilted her head, watching him with curiosity. "You look like a man who just hit the jackpot," she teased. His smile deepened. "Come here. I want to show you something." Intrigued, Anne stepped closer—only to be suddenly pulled down onto his lap. She let out a soft gasp, startled by his swift move. "Augustine!" she protested, struggling slightly in his embrace. "We agreed to keep things professional at work. Let me go." But he held her firmly. "No," he murmured, resting his chin on her shoulder. Anne let out a soft sigh, giving in to the familiar pull of his affection. "Why are you doing this?" He chuckled. "How am I supposed to resist you? You are right here, looking irresistible... Stay like this, just for a little while." He closed his eyes, content in the moment. Anne remained still in his arms, torn between exasperation and quiet amusement. "What if someone walks in?" she whispered. "I don’t care," he replied without opening his eyes. A smile tugged at her lips. ’He never changes,’ she thought. No matter the time or place, Augustine made it clear—his desire to be close to her couldn’t be contained. "You said you wanted to show me something," Anne reminded him. "I will," Augustine replied smoothly, his tone laced with playful intent. "But on one condition." Anne raised a brow, curious. "And what is that?" He turned slightly to meet her gaze, a soft smile tugging at his lips. "You have to stay right here, on my lap. No moving." She let out a light laugh at his boyish demand. "Alright," she agreed easily. "I won’t move." "Good." Nodding toward the papers spread across the desk, he said, "Take a look at those." Anne reached forward and picked up the documents, scanning the details. As she read, her expression shifted from interest to surprise. It was a billion-dollar project. "This project..." she breathed. "It’s massive." "Sphere Group started funding it months ago—but now, it’s officially ours." Anne blinked in a daze as she turned to him. "Last year, a similar initiative was handed to Marsh Technology," he added. "It turned out to be a huge success. So this time, they are expanding—and outsourcing the core development to us." Realization dawned on Anne. "So that’s why you’re meeting with their managing director today." "Mm-hmm." Augustine’s arms tightened around her, and he pressed a tender kiss to her cheek. "This deal has the power to elevate not just Starlite, but Sphere Group’s entire presence in the city. If we pull it off, their foundation here will be unshakable." Anne sat still in his embrace as she reflected on his words. "This could change everything," she said softly. "It will," he said firmly. Augustine leaned back slightly, a satisfied smile playing on his lips. What he hadn’t told Anne was that the Beaumont Group had recently aligned with Marsh Technology. He intervened when he learned the project was initially slated to be handed to them. He had vowed to strip the Beaumonts of every major deal, every ounce of prestige, until they had nothing left. This was just the beginning. He would not rest until they were brought to their knees. Unaware of the deeper motives behind his move, Anne studied the documents again. "Your boss must be thrilled about this deal. And now it’s on us to ensure its success."
