Chapter 29: Brain Tower

Chapter 29: Brain Tower Howell wasn’t buying their answers, but considering the mission from her bosses still needed these losers’ help, she bit back her irritation. "Let’s put the Castle of Agony thing on the back burner for now. Since one Dark Mist node has been fired up, we can move forward with the next phase of the plan!" Seeing no signs of Howell losing her cool, the three men felt relieved. Don’t be fooled—while Howell had the same Spirituality level as them at 9, Her core skills had already been supercharged and were scary as hell. Even the three of them ganging up wouldn’t stand a chance against her. What’s more, Howell was a member of one of the most badass organizations among human traitors: the Dusk Faction. Otherwise, even if they couldn’t beat her, the three wouldn’t be kissing ass this hard. "Miss Howell, what’s the next phase of the plan?" Wolf and Stuart asked excitedly, and even the stone-cold Chapman was pretty curious. The three of them and the hundreds of human traitors in the camp had all been called up by the Dusk Faction to build this camp in the middle of buttfuck nowhere. At the time, Howell had only left them with the job of waking up Dark Mist nodes, then vanished until now. What would they do next after nailing the node awakening mission? Honestly, they were still clueless. "Hehe hehe! The next plan!" Howell let out excited pig-like laughter that made the bonfire flicker. "Of course, it’s to properly baby my ’little darling’ and bring all the monster groups in the Withered Lands completely under my thumb!" Without any sneakiness, light flashed before the three men’s eyes as a weird creature appeared in Howell’s hands. Only about a foot long, it looked newborn and was sleeping, curled up in a ball. Completely see-through, its massive head took up three-quarters of its body. Even in the crappy sunlight of the Withered Lands, you could clearly see this creature’s brain through its shell. The creature’s brain was light blue, glowing with a gorgeous blue radiance that grabbed everyone’s attention. But the nasty black veins sticking out from it suddenly trashed this beauty! "Miss Howell, you’re saying this little thing can boss around monster groups?" The three observers freaked out, eyes going wide. Whether before or after their betrayal, they’d never heard of any way to control Dark Mist monsters. No wonder they were blown away. "Hehe hehe, this little thing is the heart of a Brain Tower. Once the Brain Tower is up and running, it can temporarily boss around Dark Mist monster groups." Howell was eating up their shock and unexpectedly showed more patience, breaking things down for them. This statement confirmed the Brain Tower’s function: temporarily controlling Dark Mist monster groups. Even if temporary, it could bring massive combat boosts to these human traitors. For example, ordering Dark Mist monsters to surround and attack human Psionics, or even their enemies. Or when facing danger, having Dark Mist monsters come out as meat shields, and so on. Their eyes burned with hunger as they stared at the unknown creature larva in Howell’s hands, their inner greed impossible to keep down. With it, they could definitely become the kings of the Withered Lands! Howell’s eyes narrowed to slits—she could see the greed in the three men’s eyes crystal clear. If they weren’t scared shitless of her powerful combat ability, these guys would probably try to jack it directly. Chapman asked in his gravelly voice the even more exciting question: "May I ask if Dark Mist node monster groups are also within the control range?" "Yes!" After answering, Howell ignored the three men’s burning stares and put away the weird creature. Actually, Howell didn’t know if it was possible either, Because this was the organization’s first test run—whether they could even build the Brain Tower was still up in the air. Even if built, whether it could effectively control Dark Mist monsters, what spirituality level monsters it could boss around, etc., were all question marks. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have set up the experiment in the lowest spirituality area—the Withered Lands. She’d deliberately talked so big earlier to fire up the three men’s greed. Under greedy desire, they would definitely bust their asses to complete the Brain Tower’s construction. As for the inevitable backstabbing, like fighting for control of the Brain Tower, Howell wasn’t sweating it. Because when it was about to be finished, these people would become dead weight... Bloodthirsty killing intent flashed in Howell’s narrowed eyes. "Miss Howell, just tell us what to do and we’ll immediately pass orders to our guys." Looking longingly at where the unknown creature larva had disappeared, The three men couldn’t snap back to reality for ages, desperately wanting to build the insanely effective Brain Tower. As for who would own it after completion, that would depend on their respective game plans. "The Brain Tower needs..." Just then, chaos suddenly broke out outside the camp, with faint screams coming from the main gate direction. Next, a traitor grunt responsible for watching the camp gate ran over in a panic. "Boss, no... wait, Captain Wolf... something’s gone to hell! Monsters are attacking us!" "What? Didn’t I warn you not to mess with the monsters outside?" Wolf instantly saw red—the critically important Brain Tower construction was about to start, and the camp had this kind of clusterfuck. "No... no! It’s that terrifying monster that suddenly carved its way through the main gate! It’s insanely powerful—quite a few brothers are already toast!!! You need to come check this out!" Speaking rapid-fire, this traitor quickly spilled what he knew of the situation. "What?" Wolf wanted to ask more, but the huge shadow by the bonfire stood up, her rough voice cutting through any argument. "Hurry up and take us there!" "Ho... Miss Howell..." Only now did the panicked messenger notice that sitting across from his boss was actually the camp’s real puppet master. Cold sweat broke out on his forehead as he quickly led the way. Howell and the other three followed, moving fast as shouts and screams ahead got clearer. "Guardians hold the line up front! What are you doing hiding way back there!" "Ah! My leg!" "Don’t be scared! It’s just one monster! Watchers, light it up with arrows!" "Save me, help!" ... In front of the camp’s main gate, over a dozen traitors were surrounding a humanoid skeletal monster wielding a greatsword. The monster had thick bones inscribed with weird purple patterns, radiating terrifying killing intent that chilled people to the bone. Its strength was off the charts—one hit could send several Guardians flying. Especially the greatsword in its bone hands—it was wicked sharp! The ordinary armor worn by the human traitors, even white quality defensive spirit equipment, seemed like tissue paper in front of it, easily sliced through. This made the human traitors scared as hell.
