Chapter 186: Something to Crow About Suddenly, "Caw!" Red Spirit whipped its head around, a pair of red eyes boring into Second District Security Officer Willie. "What the hell is this?" A tiny skeleton wrapped in crimson flames??? In a split second, Willie got this creepy feeling that all his thoughts were totally exposed to this monster that just popped up out of nowhere. Combined with his gut screaming danger, Willie immediately went full alert! "Willie, chill out. This is Young Master Carlos’s right-hand, helping us track down traces of Black Sinners!" Barossa, who’d been about to bail, stopped and filled in Red Spirit’s deal. Red Spirit had been floating around following the garrison troops on Carlos’s orders. ’Carlos Valois!’ Willie’s eyes went a little wide. Yesterday, after the Chief Security Officer’s usual meeting, the security officers had been planning to visit the mysterious Valois family member who’d caused such a massive shitstorm at the garrison camp. But before they could make their move, word came that the Golden Sand Society had been playing footsie with traitors and got completely wiped out by the garrison troops working with Carlos Valois. They also found out that the mysterious Valois family member whose identity they couldn’t pin down was actually the 15-year-old Carlos Valois! This caused a huge buzz among the security officers. If not for immediately getting news that letters showing they were in bed with Black Sinners had been found at the Golden Sand Society, Willie and the others would’ve already gone to visit (and kiss ass). Never expected that today he’d be face-to-face with a summoned minion of that 15-year-old prodigy. ’Just like the rumors said, the vibe is absolutely terrifying. I’m actually getting the shakes!’ Willie flashed a big grin: "What should I call you?" "Caw! Caw!" Not a threat. Red Spirit tilted its head, making this call. "Caw... caw???" Willie tried repeating the sound, totally unsure. Red Spirit’s eyes looked weird. Why was this human suddenly trying to talk crow? "Haha! Willie!" Barossa’s rough laughter boomed out: "This lord’s name isn’t ’caw caw’!" "This is Lord Red Spirit!" Barossa, who’d just gotten shut down, found a perfect chance to rub it in. Willie’s old face went a little red, but went back to normal after just a second. "Lord Red Spirit, what brings you here out of the blue?" "Caw! Caw! Caw! Caw!" Red Spirit narrowed its eyes, pointing at Willie, then at a thick stack of papers on the desk, making happy sounds. ’Could it be...’ Willie’s heart skipped a beat. ’No way. Did someone spill the beans? No... it was just found...’ Though his mind was going crazy, Willie didn’t show squat on the surface. His beady green eyes looked questioningly at Barossa. "What’s Lord Red Spirit getting at?" He had a pretty good guess what this monster was saying, but what if he was wrong? That would be bad news. Barossa turned toward his guys, pretending he didn’t hear. Because he couldn’t make heads or tails of these crow-like cawing sounds either. ’I’m not a Ranger—how the hell would I understand?’ Thinking about this, Barossa suddenly remembered that Willie was a Ranger. And he couldn’t understand either? Being a straight shooter, Barossa shot back: "Aren’t you a Ranger? How come you can’t figure out what Lord Red Spirit’s saying?" "..." Willie went quiet. Because these cawing sounds seemed like some kind of crow talk, but weirdly, they couldn’t form proper crow language—just "Caw!" "Caw!"... The two stared at each other. You brought it, but you can’t understand? I brought it, so why should I understand? ... For a minute, the air went dead quiet. Red Spirit just floated around Willie’s office space. It wasn’t sweating these people not understanding because it had already pinged its master to come ASAP! This guy with the four whiskers was definitely up to something! ... Time crawled by. Seeing that Lord Red Spirit had zero plans to leave, Willie was getting a serious headache. He sneakily pulled Barossa to a quiet corner and said under his breath: "Barossa! Get this thing out of here, fast! How can I get any work done with it hanging around constantly?" Barossa put on his innocent face: "What’s this got to do with me?" Willie’s little mustache started twitching: "Bull! You brought this monster here!" Barossa said all righteous-like: "Hmm... did I say that?" "???" Willie couldn’t believe it. You thick-browed, honest-looking bastard learned this trick too? "Barossa, as long as you get it out of here quick, I’ll personally report and work things out with the Chief Security Officer about the search deal!" Willie had this gut feeling that if he let this monster keep snooping around, the intel about finding Black Sinner traces that he’d just discovered probably couldn’t stay under wraps! How could he hog all the credit then? "Willie, this isn’t your usual style." Barossa was in no rush to split. He crossed his arms, his beefy chest muscles bulging as he stroked his chin with a thoughtful look. ’Damn, I was too eager.’ Willie quickly snorted: "Fine! Go ahead and try it yourself! See when you can get a meeting with the Chief Security Officer!" Barossa stared at Willie for a while without picking up anything fishy, then said quietly: "I can only try. Lord Red Spirit’s not easy to boss around." "Good, make it snappy!" With that, Willie secretly slipped Barossa a small pouch. Barossa glanced sideways—several crystal-clear gems. "I’ll give it my best shot!" He pocketed them on the sly. ... "Lord Red Spirit, we should check out other places." Barossa started his ’act.’ Hearing this, Red Spirit turned its head, red eyes staring straight at Barossa. "Caw! Caw!" You idiot, you got played by that guy! "..." Barossa felt like the little skeleton was cursing him out. Those red eyes were full of attitude. He quietly backed away. As a high-tier psionics user, he had some pride too. Seeing Barossa say just one thing then stride toward the door, Willie rushed to catch up: "...Barossa, that’s all you said?" "Willie! I gave it everything I had!" Barossa looked dead serious, like he’d really busted his ass! "One sentence—you only said one damn sentence!" Willie was pissed, almost losing his cool completely. He stuck out his hand: Give back the gems! "Hahaha!" Seeing this, Barossa cracked up, then... "Boom!" He immediately launched himself toward the door! Leaving only the words: "Boys, we’re outta here!" "Captain! Wait up!" The garrison soldiers scrambled to follow! In seconds, not a single garrison soldier was left in the Second District Security Office. "He just... he just took off!!!" Willie was totally blindsided. How could a high-tier psionics user be such a shameless bastard! He wanted to chase after them, but thinking about his image, he forced himself to hold back. "Barossa! You just wait, you hear me!" A whole bag of gems, gone just like that! As Willie’s heart was bleeding, he heard a familiar sound in his ears. "Caw! Caw!" The monster called ’Red Spirit’ was laughing so hard it was rocking back and forth. "..." Willie forced out a smile that looked painful. Fighting probably wouldn’t work, so he had to go with the kiss-ass approach. He needed to figure out how to get rid of this monster...
