Chapter 218: The Mole Revealed
...
Rock Sand City,
Hidden basement,
A black-robed figure knelt on the ground, respectfully reporting to the figure at the table:
"Sir,
All the Black Sinners in the Three-Fork Mountain sand waterfall cave are toast."
The figure paused for several moments, like this sudden news had thrown him off.
His breathing hitched for just a moment before going back to normal.
"Who did it?"
His tone was flat as roadkill.
The black-robed figure reported:
"Sir,
We don’t know exactly who.
But someone spotted
Carlos Valois flying toward Three-Fork Mountain yesterday."
"Carlos Valois?"
Hearing this name,
The figure’s fingers started drumming the table, getting worked up.
"You’re telling me
Carlos Valois wiped out that group of Black Sinners?"
The black-robed figure said, hesitating a bit:
"Can’t be sure, but there’s a damn good chance he did it.
On one hand,
That group of Black Sinners had some heavy hitters. The powerhouses in Rock Sand City who could take them all out? You could count them on one hand.
Though Carlos Valois is just a kid,
His strength is absolutely terrifying—definitely capable of wiping out that group of Black Sinners without leaving anyone breathing!
On the other hand,
Right now,
Pretty much all the high-tier powerhouses in Rock Sand City have been drafted by leadership and couldn’t possibly leave the city.
Put it all together, the odds of Carlos Valois being our guy are sky-high."
After hearing his subordinate’s breakdown, the figure’s finger drumming got more frantic, echoing nonstop in the basement.
After a long stretch,
He slowly spoke:
"Did those dead Black Sinners know who you are?"
With those words,
Crushing pressure slammed down, scaring the black-robed figure into rapid-fire explanation:
"They don’t know squat.
I’ve been wearing the artifact you gave me—
My real identity would never get blown."
Cold sweat broke out on the black-robed figure’s head as he nervously waited for his boss’s call.
The figure’s eyes were like bottomless pits, making his real thoughts impossible to read.
Time crawled by.
The black-robed figure kept his head glued to the floor, his heart sinking deeper.
Until he heard:
"Good thing you didn’t get made."
The black-robed figure immediately felt like he could breathe again.
In just those few minutes, his back had been drenched in sweat.
The figure kept going:
"Though your real identity didn’t get blown,
They definitely figured you’re one of Rock Sand City’s humans."
The black-robed figure gave a bitter smile, saying helplessly:
"Sir, there was no way around it.
After all, the intel I passed along
Was clearly classified orders from Rock Sand City’s human leadership.
From who would know classified orders, they’d naturally narrow down the field."
The figure’s eyelids lifted slightly, his voice ice-cold:
"Before those Black Sinners croaked,
Did they rat out your dealings with them to Carlos Valois?"
"This..."
Instantly,
The black-robed figure broke out in cold sweat:
"Black Sinners... more sneaky and vicious than traitors.
If they knew they were gonna die, they might... no... they definitely would!"
After thinking about this possibility,
The black-robed figure’s scalp started crawling.
But thinking again, he hadn’t spilled any real info.
Even if Carlos Valois knew there was a mole inside Rock Sand City, there was no evidence to nail him.
His expression couldn’t help but chill out.
"Moron!"
Seeing his subordinate’s expression, the figure knew what he was thinking and angrily tore into him.
"?"
The black-robed figure looked lost—what had he done wrong to piss off his boss so much?
"In a supreme investigation,
Could you hide jack squat?"
"Supreme investigation!"
Hearing this,
The black-robed figure first jumped, but quickly bounced back:
"Sir,
Without evidence,
Without even solid suspicion,
This... it’s not likely they’d launch a supreme investigation on me."
The figure was almost cracking up at his subordinate’s stupidity:
"Idiot!
Selling internal classified intel to Black Sinners—how serious a crime is this?
If Director Nelson gets wind of this,
He’ll definitely run supreme investigations on everyone who knew,
Can you dodge that bullet?"
"Everyone!"
The black-robed figure’s eyes went wide:
"Those who knew the secret orders include pretty much all the high-tier powerhouses...
Supreme investigating everyone who knew would... would cause total chaos..."
The black-robed figure’s voice got quieter.
Based on Director Nelson’s track record,
He would definitely launch supreme investigations, even if it ticked off the high-tier psychics.
This wasn’t guesswork, but hard lessons from the past.
THUD!
The black-robed figure hit the deck hard:
"Sir,
You’ve gotta save my ass!"
He realized how deep in the hole he was.
Once the supreme investigation kicked off, he had no doubt he couldn’t take it.
That wasn’t something high-tier psychics could fight off!
"Why are you freaking out?
Where’s the Todd who used to face death without batting an eye?"
The figure’s eyes showed a hint of disappointment.
The old Todd would charge headfirst even facing multiple enemies,
His gutsy performance won everyone’s respect,
Eventually earning him a promotion to security officer of Rock Sand City’s richest District One.
But now,
Scared as a rabbit—
Just a supreme investigation had him this spooked.
The black-robed figure,
District One Security Officer Todd,
Looked embarrassed and kept his mouth shut.
’Yeah, I was once a celebrated hero.
When did I start
Going from tough guy to total coward?’
Maybe from that day—
The day he got a taste of easily scoring spiritual essence...
Todd shook his head.
Now it was way too late to turn back.
The brave Todd from back in the day was long gone.
Current Todd
Was his superior’s right-hand man,
A disgusting piece of work who’d do anything for a buck, even team up with traitors and Black Sinners!
The figure’s finger drumming stopped:
"Todd,
Go contact the remaining Black Sinners right now."
"Sir,
Now... if I just waltz out there, it might tip people off."
Though not knowing why he needed to make contact,
Todd was dragging his feet.
Who knew if the remaining Black Sinners were blown?
If they were, wouldn’t going there be walking straight into a trap?
The figure paused,
Then getting his subordinate’s concerns, said flatly:
"Not long ago, Black Sinners sent word that all plans are moving forward normally.
Also about Three-Fork Mountain,
They already know and we don’t need to sweat it."
"Sir, what message do you need me to give them?"
With his boss laying it out like that, Todd could only take the order.
He grumbled to himself:
’At a time like this, still feeding intel to those Black Sinners.
Aren’t you worried about getting caught up in this!’
Honestly,
Todd never got it from day one—
What was the point of teaming up with Black Sinners?
Teaming up with traitors meant serious cash changing hands.
But constantly passing leadership messages to Black Sinners without getting paid squat
Seemed like a total waste of time to Todd.
