Barossa weighed what he could safely spill.
He'd start with the stuff everyone already knew.
"Young Master Carlos rolled into Rock Sand City and immediately had folks falling all over themselves.
The scene was wall-to-wall people, sand and wind whipping around—
Pretty much the whole damn city came out to gawk..."
Iris's brow furrowed.
'In some foreign city-state,
How'd my brother cause such a circus?
What if some lovesick old biddy kidnapped Carlos!'
Iris made a mental note that when she caught up with little brother, she'd definitely read him the riot act
About watching his back when he's out and about and not starting mob scenes.
"...Young Master Carlos not only sniffed out the Golden Sand Society's dirty deals with the Black Poison Faction...
But also rolled up his sleeves and wiped out the entire Golden Sand Society himself..."
Barossa laid out everything Carlos had pulled off in Rock Sand City, but kept his mouth shut about Black Sinner intel.
Hearing that Carlos had jumped the gun without waiting for her,
Iris couldn't help but worry:
"Spill it!
Did Carlos get hurt in the fighting?"
Terrifying psionic energy leaked out like a busted dam. Barossa's hair stood on end, feeling like he was being stabbed by invisible needles.
He rushed to answer:
"No! Hell no!
How could Young Master Carlos possibly get a scratch!
The whole time, Young Master Carlos didn't throw a single punch—it was all his crew doing the heavy lifting."
"Thank god he didn't get hurt."
Iris let out a breath she didn't know she was holding.
"Where's Carlos now?"
Barossa picked up on this Fire Commander's soft spot for Young Master Carlos.
He wondered to himself
What was this person's deal with Young Master Carlos?
Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of the design on the sword at her hip:
'Valois family crest!'
Like lightning,
Several pieces clicked together in his head:
"Holy shit... could this be Duke Iris!"
Now,
Barossa felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders.
No more sweating about the Fire Guard coming to bust Young Master Carlos's chops.
"Young Master Carlos is currently crashing at Noble District, Residence No. 33.
I'll immediately... show you the way?"
Before he could finish,
"Boom!"
He felt a sudden gust of wind, and the bigshot in front of him vanished into thin air.
"Where the hell did she go???"
"Don't sweat the Commander—she's definitely chomping at the bit to see her brother.
Captain Barossa,
Hook us up with some beds.
We'll camp here till the Commander gets back."
The Fire Guard members
Were used to their Commander's lone wolf routine.
Right now they just wanted to crash—
The balls-to-the-wall journey had left them beat to hell.
"Right this way, everyone."
Barossa immediately flagged down some soldiers.
He was dead certain:
'Yep, it's the Silver Sword Duke!
But she can't have come just to visit Young Master Carlos, right?'
Barossa figured
The Fire Guard had to have some urgent mission bringing them here.
He crossed his fingers
Not to get dragged into whatever shitstorm was brewing.
...
"Boom!"
"Boom!"
Above Rock Sand City, a silver streak tore through the sky, reaching Noble District Residence No. 33:
"Residence No. 33—I remember when I first hit Rock Sand City, I crashed here too."
Boom!
The silver light dropped down.
The massive sound immediately got everyone in the house on high alert.
"Roar!"
The sky!
"Chirp!"
Incoming hostiles!
"We're under attack!"
The three companions guarding Carlos went full battle mode, forming a triangle with their master safe in the middle.
They sensed an incredibly powerful presence bearing down fast!
"This aura is...?"
Carlos, protected by his crew, looked thrilled.
"Con... Controller!!!
Some unknown Controller!!!"
Security Officer Willie, who'd been peacefully fishing, knew his shit.
His face went white as a sheet immediately.
He had no clue what this mystery Controller wanted, and naturally started freaking out.
Was he about to get caught up in some major clusterfuck?
"Boom!"
Silver light slammed into the ground
But barely caused a tremor—showing the arrival had perfect control over their power!
"Roar!"
Master, haul ass!
"Chirp!"
So strong! Shield the master!
Red Spirit took a fighting stance, blocking in front of its master.
Ginya stayed alert but confused:
"Who's this chick?
She looks just like master?"
It could tell the powerhouse in front of them meant no harm.
"Everyone chill—this isn't an enemy."
Carlos got to his feet, stepped past his three companions, and walked forward on his own:
"Hey there, sis."
He gave a ridiculously formal bow.
"?"
Iris was floored.
This was the very first time ever
She'd gotten such a stiff greeting from her brother.
A beat later,
She caught on
And shot back with attitude:
"Well hello there, Carlos Valois!"
Really laying into his full name.
This was also the first time Iris had called her own brother that.
Clearly she was pissed.
Seeing his sister wasn't buying this act, Carlos immediately switched gears:
"Sis, don't be so steamed."
Iris said nothing,
Walked up to Carlos,
Reached out with both hands:
"Carlos Valois,
Don't you think you owe me
An explanation for all this?"
This time,
Iris was genuinely pissed, 'ruthlessly' 'attacking' Carlos's cheeks.
"You're getting cockier by the day.
What did I drill into your thick skull before?
Didn't I say safety first, always?
Don't go off half-cocked when shit hits the fan—call me immediately.
How'd you handle it?"
So soft, just like when we were kids—feels amazing.
Once she started, it brought back childhood memories, and Iris couldn't stop herself.
Carlos knew he was busted and quit fighting it:
"Sis~mmph~, I mmph~mmph~"
But how can I explain anything like this!
Nearby,
Watching their master getting manhandled, Purple Vortex and Red Spirit were losing their minds:
"Roar!"
"Chirp!"
Master, hang tight—we'll bust you out!
Ginya quickly grabbed them:
"Morons, that's master's sister!
Can't you see master isn't fighting back?"
Ginya watched the sibling showdown, drool unconsciously forming at the corners of her mouth:
'So... so damn sweet!'
Her hands unconsciously made grabbing motions in the air, eyes glowing with weird light.
The only outsider there,
Security Officer Willie,
Was awkward as hell:
"What should I do?
Am I supposed to be seeing this?"
The second that silver light landed, he immediately knew who it was!
Current Valois family head!
Fire Commander!
Silver Sword Duke!
New generation's top dog!
Controller Duke Iris!
He quietly grabbed his fishing rod, turned around, and pretended to be totally absorbed in fishing:
'Can't see me,
Can't see me,
I'm old,
My hearing sucks,
My eyesight's even worse.'
He was scared shitless that Young Master Carlos might 'silence' him once he snapped out of it!
....
"Sis~mmph~, there's~mmph~an~mmph~outsider~here"
Carlos finally remembered there was a stranger in the courtyard.
Shaking his head, he started struggling.
"Don't worry—the outsider's about to take a little nap."
Iris wasn't ready to let go, had zero intention of giving her brother a break.
After all,
Since her brother had grown up, it had been forever since she could be this 'bossy'!
This chance was gold!
"Boom!"
Massive, terrifying psionic energy exploded, wind and clouds going crazy as the entire courtyard got wrapped up.
Security Officer Willie's face went dead white, soul-crushing dread rising in his chest.
Just as he was about to beg for his life:
"Duke, I didn't see jack..."
"Boom!"
Massive silver-white psionic energy dropped from above. Security Officer Willie had zero power to fight back and got buried underground.
A temporary seal locked into place.
Now the outsider couldn't hear or see squat, totally knocked out.
