Chapter 124: Under the Salt

Words : 1183 Updated : Oct 6th, 2025
Chapter 124: Under the Salt "...They came back?" The Black Poison Faction Bishop looked like he’d been caught with his pants down—he knew exactly what Salimo was getting at. He cursed under his breath—what the hell was camp leader Dunro thinking? Didn’t he know this was the money man’s special request? Not even putting on a dog and pony show—how was he supposed to smooth this over? The Black Poison Faction Bishop scrambled for an excuse and cleared his throat: "Ahem, dear Lord Salimo, maybe the messenger ran into trouble on the way, so the camp leader never got your request." Salimo’s eyes flashed with pure murder. How many years had it been since someone had fed him such a load of bull? The Black Poison Faction Bishop knew this excuse was weaker than watered-down soup and quickly added: "But don’t you worry—I’ll send people right away to get that item for you, guaranteed!" Hearing this, Salimo looked at him like he was a complete moron, his voice dripping with uncontrolled rage: "You numbskull! Use what’s left of your brain! If we could make a move in the city, would I have hired you in the first place?" "Numbskull! Numbskull!" The wolf-headed parrot echoed mockingly. Being ridiculed like this, Bishop Haswith’s face couldn’t take any more, a dangerous glint creeping into his eyes. "Numb...!" The wolf-headed parrot’s mockery suddenly cut off as it started baring its teeth at the guy across from them, letting out warning growls. Bang! "You looking for a fight?" Salimo slammed the table hard, a high-tier Psionic’s aura exploding outward, snuffing out the candlelight! Bishop Haswith flashed a grin: "Wouldn’t dream of it." Showing off his black-green teeth: "Surely you haven’t forgotten we’re business partners!" The partnership involved plenty of deals, especially the life-extending serum Salimo was counting on—his hopes were riding on the Black Poison Faction. Thinking about this, Salimo forced himself to swallow his anger: "For old time’s sake, I’ll let this slide. But next time, don’t screw up again!" After speaking, Salimo grabbed his cane and slowly shuffled out of the underground chamber... Shortly after Salimo left, the stone table suddenly crumbled to sand and scattered across the floor. "A warning?" Bishop Haswith’s mouth twisted into a smirk, his black-green teeth clicking as he narrowed his eyes playfully. ... Desolate Desert, White Poplar Forest, a blood-soaked area. Two figures, one massive and one tiny, stood uncomfortably close together. "Lord Purple Vortex, I promise I won’t bolt..." Diliya tried to yank her hand back, but it was locked in this monster’s iron grip—completely stuck. She was getting more and more ticked off: "I swear I won’t run!" Using both arms, she tried to wrestle her hands free, but her already weak strength was no match for Purple Vortex’s crushing grip. "Roar!" So damn noisy. Purple Vortex roared in annoyance—this woman had some nerve, actually daring to interrupt its sightseeing! A Dark Purple Force Field clamped over Diliya’s red lips, cutting off her voice. "Mmm mmm mmm!" Diliya thought this monster was about to attack, making panicked muffled sounds as her body thrashed wildly. This made Purple Vortex even more irritated. A Dark Purple Force Field wrapped around her—now it was nice and quiet. Unable to move a muscle, Diliya’s heart cried out: "Goodbye, my perfect nails!" "Goodbye, my beautiful hands!" "Goodbye, my delicate face!" "..." She could practically see her perfect body parts being claimed by this monster one by one in some horrifying future. A tear rolled down her cheek. Just then, a familiar voice called out from above: "You two are getting along like a house on fire." Good—no missing arms or legs. This showed Purple Vortex had followed his orders to the letter. "Roar!" Purple Vortex heard the praise and excitedly spun its head in circles. At Carlos’s signal, the Dark Purple Force Field pulled back, freeing Diliya. "Sir, you’re back!" Diliya looked thrilled, her numb hands finally free to pull away. Crack crack crack! Moving her hands even slightly made crisp popping sounds. Looking at the woman in front of him, Carlos got lost in thought. Next, he needed to head back to the Desolate Desert to find a spot extremely close to the spiritual plane. If he held the Sun Emperor’s Sword summoning ceremony there, the odds of success would be sky-high. But Carlos couldn’t possibly drag this dead weight along. Yet he couldn’t let this woman run wild either. "Looks like I’ll have to keep Purple Vortex on babysitting duty." After giving Purple Vortex guard orders again, Carlos shot into the sky and vanished on the horizon once more. Seeing Carlos take off again without so much as a "how do you do," Diliya lost it completely. "No no no! Sir, don’t leave me behind!" "Roar!" Shadow fell over her. Her hands, which had just gotten some relief, were grabbed again as hungry eyes stared her down. Diliya gave up the fight and plopped down like a deflated balloon. "Fine, stare away!" She’d figured it out—this monster was all bark and no bite. ... After flying at breakneck speed for several days, Carlos reached an extremely unusual part of the Desolate Desert. Here, the sand was no longer dark brown but white crystals. Pure white as far as the eye could see, sparkling with rainbow colors. This was the Pure White Salt Pool! Crystalline fine salt particles blanketed the ground, throwing off colorful light specks under the sun. But beauty was hiding a nasty surprise. Carlos flew in and felt the water in his body draining away fast. At this rate, he’d soon hit dehydration and eventually shrivel up and die. This was one of the Pure White Salt Pool’s deadly tricks—the bone-dry, fine salt particles constantly sucked moisture right out of the air. Without the right preparation, trespassers could unknowingly become walking mummies! Carlos had seen this coming and calmly downed a potion, immediately topping off his body’s water supply. "That should keep me going for a while." He kept flying forward... Suddenly, four black specks appeared in his line of sight on the salt surface—three small, one huge... Three Psionics were ganging up on a 16-foot-tall sand giant. "Gal, hang in there! Hang in there!" The man named Gal heard his buddies shouting and roared back: "Shield Radiance Guard!" His large shield’s surface erupted with earth-brown psionic energy: "Boom!" He took the salt sand giant’s haymaker right on the chin. "Hurry up! I’m running on fumes here!" Gal gritted his teeth and held his ground while his two companions jumped at the chance to attack, perfectly nailing the salt sand giant’s core! "Roar!" Before croaking, the salt sand giant let out one last angry roar! Then it crashed down, turning into a pile of glittering salt sand. Seeing this pile of salt sand, the three Psionics were over the moon—this was exactly what they’d been sent to get. They quickly crouched down to scoop up the salt sand. Suddenly: "Boom!" From under this pile of salt sand shot out a pair of thick salt claws that snatched the two unsuspecting Psionics.
