Chapter 228: Sabina’s Visit
"Sis, this blue salt sand can be traded to Black Flame City’s Byss family.
We need to get them to hunt down this type of ancient gold coin."
On his last day before skipping town from Rock Sand City, Carlos handed over the special salt sand he’d collected in the Desolate Desert to Iris.
Black Flame City’s Byss family, masters of wheeling and dealing, regularly hit up various city-states as merchants—perfect for commissioning them to track down Ersbah ancient gold coins.
With the Ersbah Merit Exchange ruin still buried and unknown to everyone, plenty of folks would be happy to sell.
Iris took the parchment showing a uniquely patterned gold coin
Shaped like a city wall, which on closer look was made up of tiny shield patterns.
"Any limits on how many?"
Iris didn’t ask what her brother wanted these ancient coins for. As long as her brother would listen and haul ass out of Rock Sand City’s shitstorm, she’d sleep better.
"The more the better."
Carlos added:
"Buy them at normal ancient coin prices—this special salt sand is worth plenty. Let the Byss family just deduct it from the pile."
If purchase prices went too high, it might grab the wrong kind of attention.
After wrapping up this business,
With Carlos’s repeated promises that he’d bail from Rock Sand City tomorrow,
Iris took off.
Time was tight. She grabbed the reluctant Red Spirit and headed to where Rock Sand City’s leadership was camped out, dead set on rooting out the mole.
In the courtyard, Carlos looked at the sand lake that had gone back to being peaceful, thinking:
’With Red Spirit’s help, they’ll definitely sniff out traces of the mole.
Everything’s just a matter of time.’
The Black Sinners’ False King summoning ritual was also toast. Looking at it from all angles, there shouldn’t be problems.
"But I feel like I’m spacing on something?"
Carlos turned to leave the courtyard, getting ready to pack for tomorrow’s escape from Rock Sand City.
Purple Vortex and Ginya tagged along...
If master didn’t bring it up, they naturally wouldn’t remind him.
Only the miserably sealed Security Officer Willie stayed in the courtyard:
Young Master Carlos! I didn’t hear jack! Please let me out!
...
Near evening, a fancy carriage quietly rolled up in front of Noble District No. 33.
"Lady Sabina, we’ve hit No. 33."
The driver respectfully opened the carriage door.
A smoking hot woman stepped out, wearing a killer red dress that looked like it was dyed with blood—gorgeous and dangerous.
Sabina looked up at Residence No. 33, scanning around with a slight frown:
"My little Bee actually lives in a dump like this."
Clearly, she wasn’t impressed with Residence No. 33’s setup.
...
Inside Residence No. 33, Carlos was packing when he suddenly picked up signals from the two shield guards outside.
"Another visitor?"
Carlos felt like banging his head against the wall. He’d deliberately picked a quiet courtyard, yet more and more people kept showing up.
"Purple Vortex, go see who it is."
"Roar!"
Creak—Purple Vortex happily rolled out.
With Red Spirit shipped off by master, now was its chance to climb the ranks!
"Hopefully not more garrison goons."
...
"Lady Sabina, no answer."
The servant who’d been knocking shook his head—dead silence.
Just then, a blood bat dropped from above, landing by Sabina’s ear.
"Keep knocking—little Bee’s inside."
Her tone was dead certain, eyes hungry.
She couldn’t wait to get her hands on little Bee again.
A few moments later,
The heavy door slowly creaked open, revealing a tall black-red figure.
Weird patterns covered its whole body, with various-sized creepy purple vortexes that seemed to suck souls right out!
A naked heart, a grotesquely stitched-together human face, cold and emotionless, eyes like dead glass.
"Mon... monster! Protect my lady!"
The carriage guards went into full battle mode, psionic energy surging, various spirit gear giving off waves as they stayed on high alert.
"Stand down—this is little Bee’s lackey."
Sabina looked it up and down with interest.
Before coming, she’d gotten intel that little Bee’s strength had shot through the roof, with two incredibly powerful monsters under his thumb.
"Reeks of death—skeleton creatures."
Sabina’s crimson pupils narrowed.
Summoned creatures?
"You all stay put outside."
After giving the guards their marching orders, Sabina walked through the gate alone, following Purple Vortex and vanishing from sight.
"Creak!"
Only then did the guards notice two three-meter skeleton monsters behind the door, their death aura cold enough to freeze your soul.
The guards from Ember City, sharp-eyed bunch, called out:
"Check out those sword styles—they look like Young Master Carlos’s skeleton warriors!"
"They really are—I saw them up close at the Ember Competition!"
"Compared to before, it’s like night and day. I feel like one could waste ten of me. This... they must’ve evolved again!"
"Holy shit!"
"Damn!"
Gasps went up as they got all excited talking, completely forgetting about their lady’s safety. The heavy door slammed shut again.
...
Inside Residence No. 33’s main hall,
"Long time no see, my little Bee."
Sabina’s luscious red lips parted, her killer body right there within reach.
Rich blood scent seemed to wrap around Carlos, making his blood race.
"Sab..."
Carlos started to ask, but after one word, Sabina’s pissed-off look shut him up.
"Little Bee..."
Sabina gently breathed in Carlos’s ear:
"What do you call me?"
Her voice was pure seduction with a hint of attitude.
His ear tingling, Carlos reluctantly switched gears:
"Mina, long time no see..."
He was totally blown away by Sabina showing up.
Ember City was a hell of a long way from Rock Sand City.
Even his sister, who got the heads up days ahead, had only rolled in today.
Sabina had also shown up today and tracked him down—this was way beyond what Carlos expected.
"Little Bee, don’t you want to see me?"
Sabina straightened up, eyes going dangerously narrow.
"No, I’m just shocked as hell."
Carlos smoothly explained, slickly pulling his arm back and inviting her to sit—standing around in the hall was bad form.
He flagged down a shield guard to expertly serve tea to the guest.
"Here you go."
Carlos personally handed the tea to Sabina, trying to figure out what this woman was really after.
During the tea-passing deal,
Whether on purpose or not, Sabina’s smooth hands traced Carlos’s palm several times, sending shivers through him.
Taking a sip, Sabina smiled like the devil:
"Very nice—goes down smooth."
Her crimson pupils reflected the youth’s face without blinking.
Carlos had a feeling she wasn’t just talking about the tea.
Not going down that road, his eyes landed on Sabina’s shoulder.
There a blood bat stood still as a statue, though its occasional eye movements showed it was very much alive.
