Chapter 222: Freeman’s Conspiracy
But soon enough he had fresh doubts:
"But boss, if Carlos Valois ends up six feet under,
Won’t our push to investigate him stick out like a sore thumb?"
Freeman shook his head:
"Complete opposite.
On the surface, we look like we’re playing it safe.
Our whole angle is just bringing him in, hoping Carlos Valois will play ball with the investigation.
Common sense says
Anyone cooking up schemes in the shadows definitely wouldn’t make this much noise right now.
This cuts way down on suspicion.
Most important, the Black Sinners will actively move to solve our problem as payment.
We stay clean!
Only when Carlos Valois is worm food
Can the Golden Sand Society threat get wiped off the map completely!"
After Carlos ratted out and crushed the Golden Sand Society,
Freeman’s gut told him Todd’s cover was blown.
For his own hide, this kid absolutely had to take a dirt nap!
Todd’s eyes went wide.
The ones making the hit were actually Black Sinners.
So his boss’s deals with Black Sinners, never asking for a cut, were all building up to this moment.
"Sir,
But word is,
Just Carlos Valois’s two lackeys pack power equal to top-shelf high-tier psychics.
The leftover Black Sinners probably can’t touch him..."
Freeman dropped back into his chair and whipped out a classified message:
"Check this out.
The Black Sinners’ False King has touched down—they’ve got the firepower to ice Carlos Valois!"
"False King!!!"
Todd’s face went white as a sheet.
A Black Sinner False King who could go toe-to-toe with Controllers had actually showed up.
This changed everything,
The Black Sinners’ strength had gone through the roof. Taking out Carlos Valois was definitely doable!
Hell... it was money in the bank. No matter how gifted that punk was, there was no way he’d slip through a Controller’s fingers!
But his leftover human instincts made him sweat bullets all over again.
"Sir,
With the Black Sinners’ False King in play,
Are we really gonna let them pull off the portal ritual?"
Once Black Sinners swarmed in like locusts,
Rock Sand City would be ground zero.
Every last psychic in Rock Sand City would be thrown into the meat grinder against the Black Sinner army.
As District One Security Officer, if he wanted to stay in the human camp, he’d definitely be cannon fodder on the front lines.
This was bad news.
Freeman grinned with satisfaction—this fake lackey wasn’t totally brain-dead:
"Hell no.
Thing is, folks who know the truth
Aren’t just Carlos Valois.
Some people know way more than Carlos Valois ever did!"
"Black Sinners!"
Todd connected the dots instantly.
Only when every last Black Sinner was pushing up daisies could the mole business finally get put to bed.
Then truly nobody else would be in the know.
"Sir, your smarts flow deeper than underground rivers, just as impossible to fathom!
I’m so..."
While Todd was kissing ass,
Freeman smirked to himself:
’Todd, the knowing parties aren’t just them...’
...
Rock Sand City, District Four, some run-of-the-mill house,
Down in the basement,
High-tier Black Sinner Luckybe grilled several mid-tier Black Sinners:
"All the coded messages get sent out?"
"Sir, every last one.
As long as Lord Withered passes through District Four, he’ll definitely spot our intel."
A mid-tier Black Sinner stepped up to answer.
Luckybe groaned internally:
’Lord Withered!
I get that you want to keep your cover,
But could you please get in touch with us!’
Without getting Lord Withered’s marching orders, Luckybe felt like she was flying blind.
"Damn, who knows when Lord Withered will reach out."
Seeing the worry eating at their boss, the mid-tier Black Sinners spoke up:
"Sir, if Lord Withered catches the coded message, he’ll definitely show up."
Luckybe nodded.
That made sense,
Because this was about major shit involving a ’King’!
Luckybe had been wracking her brain over how to contact that human with ’kingly potential.’
But then someone from the human side made first contact,
Looking to team up and take out that human with ’kingly potential’—they’d provide detailed intel backup.
This was a gift from the gods!
If they could successfully bring that human down,
The Black Sinners would birth a real Demon King who’d claim the heavenly throne!
Thinking about it,
Luckybe’s heart raced with pure excitement.
Only under a Demon King’s command could the Black Sinner clan reach true greatness!
Instead of hiding in busted pocket dimensions like now, always aching to break into the Material Realm.
With this thought,
Luckybe got even more antsy:
"Any fresh word from the humans?"
The Black Sinners all shook their heads:
"Sir, nothing yet.
Last time,
That guy told us to sit tight.
He’d bait and scheme to get that human with kingly potential to go solo to the kill zone.
If it works out, he’d give us the heads up."
Luckybe chewed it over briefly, then waved her hand:
"Pass the word down—
The portal ritual gets put on ice for now.
Everything takes a back seat to this!"
Hearing this,
The Black Sinners traded looks. One carefully spoke up:
"Sir, this... might this be a bad call?
The plan’s in the home stretch.
If we drag our feet,
Rock Sand City’s humans will definitely smell something fishy about that accusation letter.
We might never get another shot this sweet again."
This mid-tier Black Sinner really didn’t want their sweat and blood going down the drain.
The portal ritual
Was their crew of Black Sinners’ ultimate mission since dropping into the Material Realm.
Screwing it up meant they’d have to keep playing hide-and-seek in the Material Realm.
Any slip-ups would probably get them wiped out by humans.
They really wanted to wrap up the mission early and end this damned game of hide-and-seek!
But Luckybe said with iron certainty:
"No way in hell.
Compared to our clan’s Demon King being born,
Everything else is small potatoes!
Even the portal ritual!
Got it?"
"Sir, we got it."
The mid-tier Black Sinners wavered for a hot second but ultimately didn’t have the stones to buck high-tier orders, just bowed and played along.
Luckybe knew her underlings were pissed.
This wouldn’t fly—
She had to make them get why this mattered so much, or they might half-ass it when she needed them going full throttle.
"You know why we risk getting ourselves killed
To fire up the portal ritual and let our clan drop into the Material Realm?"
The mid-tier Black Sinners answered without missing a beat, eyes going wild:
"Kill every living thing in the Material Realm, feast on the destruction!"
"Damn right—this is exactly why our clan dropped into this Material Realm!
Kill everything!
Destroy everything!
Send everything back to the loving arms of the great dark mist will!"
Luckybe’s expression went batshit crazy, voice pumped up, like she was watching future scenes of Black Sinner armies going on killing sprees!
But she stopped, asking again:
"What’s in it for our clan when we torch this Material Realm?"
"What’s in it?"
The mid-tier Black Sinners
Couldn’t wrap their heads around this.
Slaughter, trashing planes, bringing all Material Realms under dark mist will control—
This instinct was burned into Black Sinner souls.
As for payoffs... wasn’t the ultimate high enough?
Luckybe’s expression turned dead serious:
"After completely torching a Material Realm,
Our clan gets rewards from the dark mist will!
The whole clan will move up to deeper dark mist planes,
Welcome fresh transformation, become real dark mist royalty!"
