She felt like she was living in some crazy nightmare! Clear as day, her squad had gotten orders from the squadron leader to hunt for unknown ruins in the Desolate Desert. How the heck did it suddenly turn into them using the mission as cover while secretly working with traitors in the Desolate Desert and bumping off some big shot investigator from the Golden Sand Society? This was completely nuts! ... The three garrison soldiers kept up the chase: "Demi! If you don’t throw in the towel right now, don’t blame us for getting rough!" These garrison soldiers were just as confused by their superior’s orders to collar Demi and the others. For years, Demi’s squad had knocked their missions out of the park multiple times, including brutal fights against traitors. To suddenly claim they were in bed with traitors was mind-blowing! But orders were orders—no matter what, they had to nab Demi and the others and drag them back for questioning. "Demi, if you haven’t been working with traitors, why won’t you come back with us for questioning!" Hearing this, Demi’s fury boiled over. She gritted her teeth and yelled: "The captain trusted you guys and went back like a lamb to slaughter. What happened? He’s been missing without a trace ever since!!! Seeing the dirt wall didn’t slow Demi down, another garrison soldier immediately fired up his psychic energy: "Sand Binding!" Wind and sand swirled together, forming a long, skinny sand whip that whizzed toward Demi! Hearing the whoosh behind her, Demi immediately reacted based on knowing this bunch of garrison soldiers inside and out, jumping and zigzagging... "Blast it! How can Demi be such a speed demon!" The garrison soldier who whiffed cursed under his breath. Just some bookworm—how could she be so lightning-fast? Shouldn’t she be focusing on brain power? Demi felt lucky: "Thank goodness I always listened to my mentor’s advice. Psychic energy can grow at a snail’s pace, but running speed must never be slow." Psychic ripples kept coming from behind her. Demi’s face was grim—she knew she hadn’t lost the garrison soldiers on her tail. They were still breathing down her neck, while her stamina was slowly draining away, sweat drenching her clothes. "At this rate, I’m toast!" Demi felt panic creeping in. She gritted her teeth and ran like her life depended on it. She absolutely couldn’t get caught! The captain who’d voluntarily gone back had vanished into thin air. What’s more, before voluntarily ’surrendering,’ the captain had specially given them fate-linked bugs. Fate-linked bugs were magical critters. Fate-linked bugs hatched from the same batch of eggs had some spooky life connection with each other. Once one croaked, the others would immediately kick the bucket too. A day ago, the fate-linked bug in Demi’s hand had died. The writing was on the wall! "Running on empty!" Demi felt her legs turning to lead, the psychic ripples behind her getting closer and closer. Despair crept into her heart! "Run! Keep running! Can’t get caught!" Suddenly, distant commotion grabbed her attention. "That... that is!!!" Those familiar towering red skeleton monsters actually came into view! Demi’s eyes went wide with pure joy. This meant the person sitting inside was... "My lord! It’s got to be my lord!!!" "..." Hope exploded in her eyes. Her worn-out body got a second wind, carrying her as she ran toward the center of the crowd... "Why is she being chased by garrison folks?" Carlos was stumped. Behind this woman, the figures giving chase wore standard garrison gear. ... Demi’s cry for help and the scene of three garrison soldiers chasing behind immediately got tongues wagging in the crowd: "Huh? What’s going on?" "Obviously the garrison is chasing some crook!" Going to get flattened like a pancake!!!" Demi squeezed her eyes shut tight... Just then, a towering figure appeared in front of her: "BOOM!!!" The mighty sand hammer slammed into the massive shield with an earth-shaking explosion, but the giant shield didn’t budge an inch. After a few seconds, the sand hammer ran out of steam and crumbled apart. The thunderous crash made Demi’s head spin a little. She instinctively felt around her head—still attached!!! "I’m... I’m saved!" Opening her eyes, she immediately saw what a magnificent red figure standing before her, an overwhelming sense of safety washing over her. "Skeleton big brother!!!" Right then, she only felt this skeleton monster... Hold on! Skeleton big brother was so kind, so magnificent, so amazing!
