Chapter 217: Fishing in the Sand
"What... what the hell happened here?
Why would the big bad dark mist aura show up?"
She could see what was left of a summoning ritual.
Luckybe cursed under her breath:
"Which moron did the summoning?"
Pretty much every Black Sinner knew how scary dark mist aura was. If it went berserk,
All the clansmen in this area would definitely bite it.
Well... though they were all already dead anyway...
"There’s gotta be some connection."
Luckybe stared hard at the cave’s depths, trying to see more.
"I remember the descent ritual was right over there."
She’d been here before.
The perfect vessel they’d busted their asses to capture was tied up in the cave’s depths,
And Lord Withered’s descent ritual was carved around the perfect vessel.
"Could Jeff have actually summoned the dark mist aura to desperately break through the vessel’s soul barrier?"
A lightbulb moment—
Luckybe remembered Jeff’s previous bitching
About how there wasn’t enough time, the perfect vessel’s soul barrier was too tough.
"In that case..."
Putting together what she’d seen in the cave, she slowly pieced together a timeline:
"To break through the perfect vessel’s soul barrier as fast as possible,
Jeff actively summoned the dark mist will.
From the looks of it, it definitely worked—the descent ritual was completed and Lord Withered showed up.
But the dark mist aura probably didn’t back off,
Instead threw down with Lord Withered.
In the end, the clansmen got caught in the crossfire and bought it."
The more Luckybe thought about it, the brighter her eyes got, feeling like this had to be the truth.
This would explain why the clansmen died under Lord Withered’s power.
Otherwise,
Lord Withered had zero reason to waste clansmen!
Especially all the clansmen in the cave.
"Now there’s one huge question left..."
The red-eyed crow bolted out of the cave, shot through the sand waterfall, hunting for Lord Withered’s trail:
"Where the hell did Lord Withered go?"
Jeff and the other clansmen could croak—
Having finished the descent ritual and let Lord Withered show up on schedule, they died with honor.
As long as Lord Withered was around, the plan could roll smoothly.
"Lord Withered covered his tracks."
The red-eyed crow flew to a nearby clearing where Lord Withered’s trail went cold.
"What now?"
Luckybe got a splitting headache.
The portal ritual was right around the corner, but she couldn’t get hold of Lord Withered.
"Lord Withered knows where we’re hiding.
If he wanted to contact us, he’d definitely reach out himself."
In other words,
The fact that Luckybe hadn’t gotten squat from Lord Withered until now
Meant Lord Withered was deliberately staying radio silent.
"I think I get it—
Lord Withered must be keeping his descent on the down-low just in case."
If humans found out a False King-level powerhouse had shown up,
Luckybe had no doubt
The plan would hit all kinds of snags.
"So,
Lord Withered will provide backup from the shadows.
I just need to stick to the original plan."
Thinking this,
Luckybe felt way better. She immediately spread her wings, becoming a streak of light vanishing into the distance.
...
Rock Sand City, Noble District, Residence No. 33,
Carlos was chilling and fishing.
There was a mini sand lake in the courtyard with artificially raised specialty sand fish that went crazy for insect bait.
"Where would the leftover Black Sinners hole up?"
His mind worked through the intel he had so far.
Most likely some would pop up in District Four,
But those were Black Sinner small fry.
With Rock Sand City psychics there, he didn’t need to sweat it.
The key was the Black Sinners actually running the portal ritual—Carlos had zilch on them.
"Take it easy, no rush."
Though he had no leads, Carlos wasn’t freaking out,
Because after Red Spirit read the Three-Fork Mountain Black Sinners, he totally understood the Black Sinners’ current strength.
With their descent ritual trashed by him, they couldn’t cause much havoc.
Still, while not panicking, Carlos felt kinda bummed.
"That bunch of Black Sinners probably already know their Three-Fork Mountain hideout got wiped out.
They might just say screw it and bail instead."
If they ran,
Carlos hunting them down would be like finding a needle in a haystack.
"Too bad the Eyes of Calamity host’s prophecy didn’t have info about where the remaining Black Sinners were holed up."
If it had, he wouldn’t need to rack his brain like this.
Thinking about it, Carlos felt pretty bummed.
Next to Carlos, his three top retainers were also fishing.
Red Spirit zipped over the sand lake, holding a fishing rod, casting lines all over the place, having a blast.
Purple Vortex copied Carlos’s moves, looking all proper, still as a statue, waiting for fish to bite.
Only... well... it forgot to put on bait.
Ginya was different—
She had solid fishing experience, looking at the two rookies with total disgust.
She picked a sweet spot, actually chummed the water first, then cast her line like a pro.
Only... well... so far, she was no different from the other retainers—still hadn’t landed a single fish.
"Normal, totally normal,
This is completely normal!"
Ginya forced herself to stay cool. As long as she was first to catch one, no matter how long it took, it would mean victory!
"Come on! Come on bite!
Come on bite!"
After who knows how long,
Ginya tensed up as a fat sand fish circled under her hook,
Opening its mouth wide, about to chomp the bait!
Ginya was pumped, already getting ready to yank the rod.
All of a sudden,
SPLASH!
Two fishing lines dropped from the sky, almost at the same time smacking Ginya’s hook.
The fat sand fish freaked and immediately took off!
"It’s running? It ran!"
The sand fish that was about to bite the bait just bailed!
With her emotions going from sky-high to rock-bottom,
Ginya gripped her fishing rod until it groaned, roaring furiously at the two troublemakers:
"Red Spirit! Purple Vortex!
Look what you jackasses did!"
"Roar?"
"Chirp?"
Purple Vortex and Red Spirit
Pretended to reel in their lines, acting like they had no clue what happened, looking at Ginya all confused.
"You totally did that on purpose!"
Seeing their ’innocent’ expressions, Ginya’s rage went nuclear.
"CRACK!"
The fishing rod in her hand turned to dust, and the nasty Withering Domain started spreading with her fury.
"Roar?"
"Chirp?"
What are you talking about?
Purple Vortex and Red Spirit played dumb.
Dark Purple Force Field and crimson flames burst out together, actually teaming up to push back the Withering Domain.
With similar power levels among the retainers,
Two against one obviously had this result.
"You... you two!"
Ginya was livid, the sharp withered leaves on her surface shaking with rage:
"If you’ve got the guts, let’s go one-on-one!"
"Chirp!"
Not me!
Red Spirit flew in front of Ginya, made a face, then quickly backed off.
"Roar!"
One-on-one it is!
But Purple Vortex obviously couldn’t handle trash talk.
It had been annoyed by this yellow newcomer for ages—perfect chance to teach it a lesson
And show who was the retainer closest to master!
"Chirp?"
Red Spirit was floored.
Didn’t we agree to stick together?
Has your brain gone offline again?
Right at this ’ready to rumble’ tense moment,
An elegant fishing line arced up, bringing a plump sand fish out of the lake.
Carlos’s voice, with a hint of amusement, rang out:
"Lucky day."
"Master’s the best!"
"Roar!"
"Chirp!"
The three top retainers immediately dropped their beef, crowding around their master to cheer and celebrate.
In this fishing showdown,
No doubt about it,
Master Carlos was the champ!
