At this point, Purple Vortex led six Purple Thornblade Shield Guards toward the vanguard’s camp gates. Suddenly, the black sand army’s "heh heh kill" chants kept echoing, putting it on high alert immediately. "Roar?" We’ve been made! It instinctively had its crew raise shields, bracing for a fight. "Creak!" The Shield Guards followed orders, forming up around Purple Vortex, hoisting their great shields in a line, ready for action. But then... "Roar?" Several minutes ticked by, the enemy war cries continued, but there was still no sign of enemy troops. "?" Where’s the blasted enemy army? Purple Vortex was getting antsy. "Roar!" Screw it, it directly led the Shield Guards charging toward the noise... Before long, it spotted a sprawling field of military tents with a tall wooden wall running around the edge. At the wooden gate, over a dozen black sand soldiers stood watch, with absolutely no sign of a great army getting ready to move out. "Roar?" Purple Vortex realized its earlier call was dead wrong and felt like a fool, letting out an irritated roar. "Roar!" It immediately led the Purple Thornblade Shield Guards charging forward! The outermost black sand soldiers on lookout duty all spotted seven monsters heading their way at the same time. But they weren’t sweating it—they figured it was just more monsters from down the mountain being dumb enough to trespass. Based on past run-ins, a ten-man black sand squad stepped forward, drew their curved sabers, and charged at the Shield Guards, completely writing off Purple Vortex and the other Shield Guards. "Roar?" Seeing that only ten measly soldiers came out, Purple Vortex immediately felt insulted! "Boom!" A Dark Purple Force Field exploded with a bang, and crushing pressure instantly wrapped around the approaching black sand squad. The originally laid-back and cocky black sand squad suddenly went stiff as boards, their sandy faces showing pure terror, frozen in that split second. "Boom!" With a bone-chilling crushing sound, this black sand squad got squashed like bugs! The Dark Purple Force Field faded, and black sand scattered everywhere! "Holy hell!!!" "Monsters!!!" Seeing this absolutely savage scene, the black sand soldiers at the west gate were scared out of their wits. Two black sand soldiers immediately started pounding the war drum! The deep, urgent drum beats spread like wildfire. The vanguard general frowned and instinctively bellowed: "Knock off the drill!" The signal soldier beside the vanguard general immediately waved the command flag. Thousands of black sand soldiers froze in their tracks. They also heard the warning drums of enemy attack, their eyes revealing bloodthirsty killing intent. A panicked black sand soldier came bursting in. "Mon... monsters!!!" "General!" It dropped to its knees before the vanguard general, spilling the enemy situation: "There... there are seven monsters about to... to bust through the west gate! The squad supposed to surround and kill them got completely wiped out in the blink of an eye! They... they’re too... too terrifying!" Even if a whole squad got wiped out, the vanguard general wouldn’t lose sleep—most likely that squad had gotten sloppy. It wasn’t like this was the first time. This was its home turf. No matter what monsters broke in, facing thousands of black sand soldiers, they only had one ticket: to the grave. "Send a hundred-man squad to squash these trespassing monsters!" Screams suddenly erupted—they were no match for Purple Vortex and the Shield Guards whatsoever. Purple Vortex led the Shield Guards in absolute carnage, their great swords carrying devastating force. Each swing took a black sand soldier’s life, with loads of black sand scattering and quietly starting to mix with the salt sand on the ground... "Help!" "Save me!!!" "The main army! Where the devil is the main army!" "..." This wasn’t a battle at all—it was pure one-sided butchery. The black sand soldiers’ curved sabers hit the massive shields without leaving so much as a scratch. In just a few heartbeats, the gate guards’ nerve completely shattered and they scattered like roaches. Just then, heavy footsteps thundered. The black sand hundred-man squad, loaded for bear, arrived! Seeing the heaps of black sand on the ground and the completely vanished gate guards, the hundred-man captain’s face went grim. He immediately realized the gate guards had been annihilated—these seven monsters packed serious heat! "Three squads gang up on that lead monster! The remaining squads—one squad takes on each of the other monsters!" The hundred-man captain rattled off coordinated attack orders at breakneck speed. "Heh heh kill!" The hundred-man squad immediately split into seven groups, charging at the Shield Guards in organized chaos! In the hundred-man captain’s game plan, after a squad took down its target monster, it would immediately back up other squads. This way, the odds would keep stacking in their favor until they completely wiped out this bunch of monsters! The strategy was solid, but this tactic had one catch: a black sand squad had to at least be able to tie up a Shield Guard, if not take it down. ... The outcome... naturally each squad of black sand soldiers got brutally massacred. Facing Shield Guards packing 18 points of strength, forget ganging up on them—even running away was wishful thinking! "No... no way in hell!!!" In just a few breaths, several squads were history. The hundred-man captain was blown away and turned tail to run. It had to get back and report to the general—these monsters were too... too terrifying! Forget a hundred-man squad—even a thousand-man squad, even the whole blasted vanguard... Suddenly, the desperately fleeing hundred-man captain felt a terrible choking sensation. A Dark Purple Force Field had somehow wrapped around its head. "Boom!" Crushed like an eggshell. "Roar?" This pathetic? Purple Vortex couldn’t wrap its head around it—these guys were so weak, how did they have the guts to confidently split their forces to gang up on them? And so, the black sand vanguard’s first hundred-man squad was completely wiped off the map! As the Shield Guards finished off the remaining soldiers, the entire west gate fell into dead silence.
