Sophie Sullivan climbed onto the horse, shook the reins, and Gabriel immediately galloped around the equestrian center.
No wonder Gabriel was Thomas Shannon’s favorite horse; its running speed was astonishing.
After riding Gabriel for a few laps, Sophie managed to suppress much of the anger boiling inside her.
Seeing the servants nervously guarding the edge of the equestrian center, worried she might do something to Gabriel, made Sophie want to laugh.
She pulled the reins tightly, and Gabriel came to a perfect, sudden stop.
Its white mane flew up in a graceful arc.
Sophie patted its head, dismounted, and led Gabriel over to one of the servants.
Through the fence, she said to the servant, her face cold, "Give me a knife!"
The servants shuddered in fear. Had they misheard? Did the maniac really want a knife?
One of them asked, "Maniac, what do you want a knife for?"
Sophie glanced at Gabriel. "I’m in a bad mood today and feel like eating some horse meat. This one here is readily available and fresh."
"Oh my God!"
The maniac wanted to kill Gabriel and eat its meat!
The servants were aghast. Gabriel was the Young Master’s cherished pet, meticulously cared for and fed every day.
The maniac actually wants to eat it? Does she have a death wish?
The servants waved their hands frantically. "We don’t have any knives..."
One of the maidservants turned and bolted, intending to report to the Young Master that Gabriel was in danger!
"Young Master, Young Master, something’s terribly wrong!"
Amelia Shaw stood up as she saw the maidservant run in from outside, flustered. "What happened? Why are you in such a panic?"
Without even glancing at her, the maidservant rushed straight to the study upstairs.
KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK.
Urgent knocking sounded at the door.
Charlie River opened the study room door. The maidservant stood there, gasping for breath. "Young Master, something’s terribly wrong! Gabriel is in danger!"
Putting out his cigarette butt in the ashtray, Thomas Shannon’s cold eyes swept towards her. "What happened?"
"It’s... it’s the maniac! She wants to kill Gabriel and eat its meat!"
Thomas Shannon was silent. That sounds just like something she’d cook up.
Thomas Shannon went downstairs with Charlie River. Amelia Shaw stood at the head of the stairs, her hands clasped tightly, watching him nervously.
"Thomas, where are you going?"
Thomas Shannon shot her a cold glance, then looked away, walking past her without a second look.
Watching his retreating figure, Amelia grew confused...
Hadn’t he found out who the real culprit was behind the attempt on the maniac’s life?
Or... had he discovered the truth, realized it was her, and decided to keep it a secret on her behalf? Was he protecting her?
Otherwise, why would the maniac have stormed out just now?
It was highly likely that Thomas Shannon had concealed the truth from the maniac. The maniac knew it was Amelia who had harmed her, yet Thomas Shannon still protected Amelia. That’s why the maniac was angry.
Thinking it through, Amelia Shaw realized her guess was very likely correct.
Only that could have angered the maniac enough to leave.
If Thomas Shannon truly cared more for the maniac than for her, Amelia, why would he be so indifferent? Why wouldn’t he avenge the maniac? Why would he even hide the truth from the maniac and cover up Amelia’s crime?
With this realization, the heavy stone pressing on Amelia Shaw’s heart finally lifted.
It seemed Thomas Shannon did have feelings for her after all.
A man’s pride and self-esteem... they were paramount.
She hadn’t accepted him back then, so now he was resorting to this almost childish method of revenge—using other women to provoke her.
Amelia Shaw could understand, and even sympathize.
