He took a deep pull from his cigarette, directing the dense smoke towards her.
Sophie Sullivan closed her eyes and held her breath, waiting for the smoke to disperse before opening them again, glaring furiously at Thomas Shannon.
"I’ve already told you the truth. How much longer are you going to keep this up?"
Sophie Sullivan growled, her patience worn thin, "Thomas Shannon, do you really take me for a fool?"
Sophie Sullivan picked up the folder on his desk and viciously threw it at him. "Do you think I don’t know who’s really trying to harm me? You’re protecting Amelia Shaw!"
"What nonsense are you spouting?"
Thomas Shannon caught the folder with one hand and casually tossed it back onto the desk.
"I was in the flower garden and unintentionally overheard Amelia Shaw on the phone with a man named Frank Mitchell. They’re involved, and Amelia wanted him to keep it a secret. Unfortunately for her, I heard everything. Now that I have something on her, she’s on edge and wants to get rid of me as soon as possible!"
Her logic is sound,
Charlie River, standing to the side, thought, mentally awarding her full marks. She analyzed it so clearly and actually guessed correctly.
But Charlie River didn’t understand. The Young Master clearly knew the culprits were Frank Mitchell and Amelia Shaw, so why wouldn’t he tell the maniac the truth? Could it be, just as the maniac said, that the Young Master was shielding Amelia Shaw?
Thomas Shannon’s handsome brow furrowed. He continued to puff arrogantly on his cigarette, completely unfazed by Sophie Sullivan’s outburst.
He casually lifted his gaze, his deep eyes sweeping over her lightly. "Are you done?"
"So you admit it?"
Thomas Shannon chuckled disdainfully. "Maniac, are you delusional? I’ve already told you the truth. You refuse to believe it, so what more do you want me to say?"
Sophie Sullivan was absolutely livid. She nodded forcefully. "I get it now! You’re protecting Amelia Shaw!"
With that, Sophie Sullivan turned and stormed out.
She slammed the study door so hard it reverberated through the house.
Anyone who didn’t know better might have mistaken her for the master.
Besides Thomas Shannon, only she, the little maniac, dared to unleash her temper so completely.
Thomas Shannon rubbed his aching temples. Charlie River asked, puzzled, "Young Master, why don’t you tell the maniac the truth?"
"If I told her, with her temper, do you think she’d let Amelia Shaw go?"
Thomas Shannon shot him a cold glance. "Frank Mitchell clearly returned with an agenda. His reason for getting close to Amelia Shaw—don’t tell me you’re not aware of it?"
"My apologies, Young Master. That was short-sighted of me." Charlie River lowered his head in shame.
It looked like the Young Master was waiting for Amelia Shaw and Frank Mitchell to make their move before taking them both out. As for why he was holding back now, even though he knew they were the ones who had targeted the maniac, and why he hadn’t dealt with them yet... it was probably because he felt his enemies were too insignificant. Dealing with them wouldn’t bring any sense of accomplishment.
Knowing the maniac’s temperament, if she found out Amelia Shaw and Frank Mitchell had conspired to kill her, she would definitely lose her cool and go after Amelia Shaw for revenge. Wouldn’t that ruin the Young Master’s plan?
Of course, Charlie River wouldn’t tell the maniac any of this. He would keep Thomas Shannon’s secret.
Sophie Sullivan was furious. She stormed downstairs and saw Amelia Shaw on the sofa, leisurely enjoying her afternoon tea. The sight instantly enraged her.
Amelia Shaw took a sip of her black tea, smiled faintly, and asked in a soft voice, "Maniac, what’s wrong? Are you not feeling well?"
"Don’t get complacent too soon!" Sophie Sullivan sneered. One day, I’ll make you regret this!
Alone, she left the castle and ran to the horse stable, leading Gabriel out.
