Sophie Sullivan seemed lost in thought. The servant arranged the dishes one by one, but she still didn’t pick up her chopsticks.
Her cheek was suddenly pinched.
Sophie winced in pain and glared at Thomas Shannon, "What are you doing?"
"Didn’t you say you were hungry? Eat!"
Sophie slowly exhaled. Only now did she remember to ask what exactly had happened yesterday.
"Who tried to harm me yesterday?"
"The swimming pool lifesaver, overcome by lust."
Sophie couldn’t help but scoff. A swimming pool lifesaver? Was he joking with her? Would being overcome by lust compel someone to dive underwater, put ankle chains on her, and try to drown her in the pool?
"Thomas Shannon, do you really believe it was the lifesaver who acted out of lust?"
Thomas Shannon ate his meal with refined elegance, not making a single sound.
He was like a living page from an etiquette textbook, his grace forming such a perfect picture that one would hesitate to disturb it.
But Sophie was not one to hesitate. She reached out and grabbed his shirt sleeve. "Thomas Shannon, why won’t you answer me?"
"The investigation is still ongoing; don’t be impatient."
Still under investigation?
Sophie stared at him suspiciously, trying to find any trace that he was lying. Unfortunately, his expression was flawless.
Sophie couldn’t find any crack in his composure.
"Fine, I’ll wait for the truth after your investigation." Until then, she would remain suspicious of Amelia Shaw.
「On a private island in the South Pacific.」
An impressive and magnificent villa stood there, surrounded by forest.
A man in black, dressed in a suit and leather shoes, pushed open the heavy study door.
Seeing the wickedly charming man seated at the desk, he quickly stepped forward and respectfully lowered his head. "Master, I am deeply sorry. We failed to find Miss Cecilia Branford. Please punish us!"
The wickedly charming man toyed with a sapphire-encrusted pocket watch in one hand. "Not found?"
The men in black knelt in unison. "We followed the clues, but it led to the wrong person. The woman we found is Asian, not Miss Cecilia Branford at all! In terms of appearance, they are worlds apart; she doesn’t possess even one ten-thousandth of Miss Branford’s beauty."
CLICK.
The pocket watch snapped shut. The man stood up. His black shirt perfectly accentuated the subtle, almost dangerously refined aura about him.
He walked to the floor-to-ceiling windows and closed his eyes slightly, his thick eyelashes casting shadows on his handsome face. "Interesting... It seems someone doesn’t want me to find Cecilia."
"Master, we will do our utmost to find Miss Cecilia Branford. We will not disappoint you!"
The men in black declared in unison.
The man’s lips curled into a smile, its wicked charm reaching an apex. "Now, who could be hiding my Cecilia, I wonder?"
He was determined to find out who dared to make an enemy of him.
Sophie Sullivan waited patiently for a day but still couldn’t get an answer from Thomas Shannon.
His attitude was dismissive. When she pressed him further, he grew irritated and simply insisted that the lifesaver, acting on a lustful impulse, had made a spur-of-the-moment decision to target her.
Sophie almost laughed. It was true she didn’t remember her past. But that didn’t mean she was an idiot! An idiot devoid of basic logical thinking and reasoning skills!
Sophie Sullivan planted both hands on Thomas Shannon’s desk, her beautiful eyes fixed on him. "Thomas Shannon, I’m giving you one more chance. Tell me the truth now, and I’ll pretend I never heard anything you’ve said before."
Thomas Shannon leaned back in his boss chair, lazily lighting a cigarette.
