Chapter 59: CH 059: A Familiar voice (MR 1)Friday mass release! *** White walked through the sterile hallways of his laboratory, his shoes clicking sharply against the polished floor. His eyes darted from side to side, scanning through the dimly lit corridors. He then approached the room where Dave and his companions had been confined in. He threw open the door, expecting to find them huddled and tied up to the chair. But surprisingly, the room was empty. A surge of frustration coursed through him. His fingers curled into fists, and his jaw clenched so tightly that his teeth ached. He had his men tie them up with binds that wouldn’t be easy to break out, yet they had managed to set themselves free. He couldn’t imagine they would be able to break free from it, and easily as well. Out of anger, he had immediately yelled at the hybrids that stood behind him. "Find them, now!" he barked, his voice brewing with a raging storm. The hybrids had immediately scrambled away to search for them, leaving only one hybrid with him. White’s mind was filled with different thoughts, he was considering every possible escape route they could have passed. Did they escape before the lockdown or after the lockdown? If it was the former, then he has no hope of getting that back, at least not anytime soon. Which means he’ll have to leave for the main city. There are no people here to use for his experiment, but recently, a lot of people have been heading to the main cities, and luckily, White has about four labs in each of the cities. Perhaps it was time he begin his experiment on a larger scale. At least, now he knew the steps to take to create a successful hybrid, unlike the ones he had first experimented on but had led to failure. Yet, White couldn’t help but chuckle to himself as he realized how much he had underestimated Dave and his friends, and now they had slipped away from his hands. He was angry and frustrated, but he couldn’t help but laugh at this. "That crazy boy, he said something. Does he have something to do with the beast attack? Is superpowers really true as they claim? Not only could he overpower my hybrids, but Tasha also said that he has this odd strength capable of destroying anything and anyone." White said, sighing deeply. "He would have been the perfect subject to experiment on. But it seems like he was strong enough to break out of the bind." This was white’s thought, he didn’t know Dave had broken out through Chris’ help. Though Dave would have been to break through the bind if not for the punishment he was undergoing, rendering his stats and abilities inactive. While he was busy thinking about this, a voice had suddenly cut through his thoughts. "My father, why did you kill him?" White froze. The voice was familiar, yet different at the same time. But it carried a weight of accusation that sent a chill running down his spine. He turned slowly, his eyes narrowing as he focused on the figure emerging from the shadows. Standing before him was Chris, the young boy he had once known. But now, he was a man, his features hardened by time and loss. His eyes, once filled with innocence, now burned with a fierce determination. The sword in his hand gleamed sharply with an ominous light, its edge catching the glow of the hallway lights. "Chris?" White’s voice faltered, the name unfamiliar on his tongue. It had been years, two, maybe three, since he had last seen the boy. Back then, Chris had been a mere child, unaware of the dark dealings that surrounded him. Now, he stood before White as an avenger, his eyes glaring with anger at him. That was when White realized something, and to confirm his thoughts, he decided to ask. "Did you do this? Did you set them free?" he demanded, his voice raising a little bit, but he still managed to keep them low. "Answer my question first!" Chris shouted, his voice cracking with emotion. He took a step forward, but a hybrid had gotten in the way, standing in front of white, they had been programmed to protect their master, so it hadn’t hesitated to do that. White’s expression remained impassive. He had anticipated this moment, prepared for it. "I’m sorry, Chris," he said, his tone devoid of remorse. "But this is between me and your father. He was getting on my nerves, so I had no choice but to do what I did." Chris’s breath came in ragged gasps as he heard the words from White, they were said with no sympathy, and as it his father’s life had worth nothing to him. The weight of his father’s death pressed heavily on his chest, and his voice cracked with raw emotion. "Does that mean you had to subject him to those stupid experiments of yours, to the point where you had to take his life?" His words were a guttural shout, each of them laced with anguish and fury. At that moment, the hybrids that had once left to search for the missing students had started coming back, White had called them all, using the remote device. His lips then curled into a cold, dismissive smile. His eyes, devoid of empathy, met with Chris’s gaze. "He was going to die anyway." White’s voice was eerily calm, as if discussing a trivial matter. "I merely expedited his release from his suffering." He paused, his tone shifting to one of feigned regret. "I’m truly sorry, Chris." The hybrids had arrived and now they had surrounded Chris in a circle, ready to stop him from harming White their creator. Before Chris could react, one of the hybrids had lunged forward, disarming him with a swift motion. And now, the cold steel of the sword was being pressed against Chris’s throat, and he was pulled into a vice-like grip. His heart pounded in his ears, the metallic taste of fear rising in his mouth. Dave’s eyes widened as he entered the room, taking in the scene before him. Chris, now surrounded by ten hybrids, stood motionless, the sword at his neck a constant reminder of his helplessness. "Ah, look who’s here." White’s voice dripped with mockery. "Isn’t it Dave?" Chris turned his head slightly, his gaze locking with Dave’s. A flicker of recognition passed between them, but it was quickly overshadowed by the dire situation. The hybrid’s grip tightened, and Chris winced as the blade pressed harder against his skin. His breath hitched, and his muscles tensed in futile resistance. "Chris!" Dave shouted, his voice laced with urgency and concern. Seeing that the two boys knew each other, White had realized that Chris must have broken him out, unlike what he initially thought. "It’s over, Dave." White’s voice was cold and final. "You can’t stop this." He stepped forward, his eyes gleaming with a twisted sense of victory. "You may possess strength capable of defeating my hybrids like you did before, but you can’t do anything now." He gestured to Chris. "Your friend here will be killed if you make a move." Dave’s lips curled into a defiant smirk. His eyes gleamed with a mixture of determination and cunning. "Oh really?" His voice was low and confident. "You haven’t seen everything I can do." He took a step forward, his posture relaxed yet purposeful. "How about we start by turning your army against each other?" White’s eyes narrowed, a flicker of uncertainty crossing his face. The tension in the room had also thickened, the air charged with the promise of an impending chaos.
