Chapter 41: CH 041: How he survived (MR5)Mass Release For Wednesday! **** As Gunther finished explaining what the turtles could do; the similarities between them and the Boulderback beasts, there was a collective understanding among them. Chris was the first to break the silence, stepping forward with a small, relieved smile. "Glad you made it back, Gunther." Gunther gave a weary but grateful nod. "Thanks Chris, it’s good to see you as well." He paused, looking around at everyone’s faces, his smile fading just a bit. "But we can’t let our guard down. People are still waiting for us back at the base. We don’t know when those beasts will come back, so we need to keep moving." The group, still taking in the unexpected reunion, nodded thoughtfully. Gunther’s survival was a small victory, the main victory is completing the expedition altogether. "Okay, let’s get back to the truck. We’ll talk more on the way," Gunther said, his voice steady, as if he was already planning their next move in the back of his mind. Everyone agreed, silently acknowledging the gravity of their situation. With Gunther back among them, the journey ahead was uncertain, but at least they were a little stronger together. Another teenager, his curiosity getting the best of him, couldn’t hold back any longer. "I have a question, you said those turtle beasts can swallow their prey. And we were there when one of them swallowed you. Then, how is it that you’re still alive?" he asked, his voice a mix of confusion and disbelief. Immediately, some of the others turned to look at him, some shushing him, while others raised their brows at the boldness of the question. But Gunther only smiled. He wasn’t surprised by the question, he knew it was inevitable. Everyone was curious about how he had made it out alive, and he figured now was as good a time as any to tell them. He took a deep breath before starting, his voice steady as he began recounting the incredible events. "I was swallowed whole," Gunther began, his gaze distant as he relived the memory. "It happened so quickly. One moment, I was right there with all of you, and the next, I was inside that thing’s mouth. I had my sword with me, and I thought, well, I thought I was done for." He paused, glancing down at his hands, the same hands that had held the sword moments before. "After I was swallowed, I got stuck in the beast’s throat, but it was tight, and its skin was tougher than anything I’d ever faced. It was like slicing through a stone. But I didn’t just sit there. I kept stabbing, kept trying to get through that thick hide." Gunther’s voice grew quieter, his tone more serious as he relayed the next part of his escape. "It wasn’t easy. I had to drive my sword deep, deeper than I thought possible, before I finally found an opening. When I did... I didn’t hesitate. I carved my way out of that thing’s neck, and once I did, it dropped like a sack of bricks." A few people gasped at the intensity of his story. Simbi was the first to speak, her voice full of awe. "You... you killed it from the inside?" Gunther nodded grimly. "Yeah. But that’s not the end of it. Even though the beast fell, there were still others. I didn’t think I’d get away so easily." He continued, the recollection of what followed pressing on his chest like a weight. "When I crawled out, covered in black blood, I thought I’d see you all, but the truck was gone. And it seems that you guys had left with it. I didn’t know what to do, or what had happened during the time I was stuck in the beast’s throat, but luckily I had my walkie-talkie with me. I planned on using it to contact when I saw the group beasts turning toward my direction." He looked down at the others, his smile fading slightly as he recalled the strange behavior of the creatures. "I thought they were going to attack, but surprisingly, they didn’t. In fact, I don’t think they were targeting me. It seems almost as if they were called to gather at a specific location. There attitudes it was strange." "And it couldn’t be that they’re off to protect a mother Crystal? Maybe there’s one around here?" Chris said. "That will be a better explanation as to why we were attacked by them, and also their large number." Simbi added. But only one person knows the truth, yet he couldn’t reveal this information or it would raise numerous questions and suspicions. So he could only listen and chuckle to himself as the group members come up with different assumptions. ’Well, it’s for their own good if they don’t know.’ Dave said. ’They wouldn’t believe anyway. "That ends the tale of my survival, I hope I’ve answered all the questions that you all might have?" Gunther said and everyone had nodded. There was a heavy silence that followed as he finished his explanation. The group, still processing what they’d just heard, exchanged glances, each one of them trying to comprehend how Gunther had managed to survive such an ordeal. All of them couldn’t imagine the sheer determination it must have taken for Gunther to make it through that nightmare. No one spoke for a while, each of them lost in their own thoughts, but the bond between them had strengthened, knowing they had one more person to count on in this nightmare they were living. Dave, who had been listening intently, took a deep breath before speaking. "But you’re here now. That’s what matters." His voice was firm, his resolve clear, as if to reassure everyone that the worst was over. Gunther, visibly exhausted but relieved, offered a tired yet grateful smile. "Yeah. I’m here now. And I’m glad to see all of you." His voice was raspy but filled with gratitude, the weight of everything that had happened still clinging to him. Silas, however, wasn’t as moved. His face twisted into a scorn, the kind that came when something irked him deeply. ’Why does he keep taking all my spotlight?’ he seethed internally. ’I should be the one comforting Gunther, not him.’ He clenched his fists at his sides, frustration bubbling inside him. ’First, that crazy bitch of a girl stopped me from reaching Gunther in time, and now this creep won’t stop buzzing around him like a damn fly.’ A low, almost imperceptible grunt slipped from Silas’ lips. ’You wait, Dave. I’m not done with you yet.’
