Chapter 135: CH 135: Darkness (MUC3)As the people transported by Dave materialized in the dark area, they stumbled and staggered, disoriented by the sudden change in surroundings. One moment, they were on the brink of disaster, the sound of the ticking bomb still echoing in their minds; the next, they found themselves enveloped in an oppressive darkness. The air was thick with the scent of nothingness, and the silence was almost palpable. As their eyes adjusted to the dim surrounding, they discovered that they were not alone. Many others were scattered around them, as they could hear movements and grunts from each other. The darkness seemed to swallow everything, making it impossible to discern any features of their surroundings. "Are we dead?" someone whispered, their voice trembling. "Is this the afterlife?" Another voice chimed in, laced with skepticism. "If this is the afterlife, then what I heard were all lies." The murmurs grew louder, with some speculating about their fate. "Perhaps this is hell," a deep voice suggested, "but there’s no fire." A woman’s voice cut through the din, her tone laced with fear. "Does this mean we were killed? Did the bomb really went off and killed every one of us?" The question bugged down on many, and soon, voices were raised in anger and frustration. "If so, then where’s that bastard that set the bomb?" someone growled. "The bomb must have killed him too, right? Where’s Kim Hyun?" The darkness seemed to amplify their voices, making it seem like their words were swallowed by the void. As they called out for answers, their collective fear and anger hung in the air, a palpable force that threatened to overwhelm them. Another one of the individuals snarled, their voice laced with venom. "Are you keeping quiet so we won’t know you are here? Huh? Kim Hyun? Speak up, you bastard!" The words hung in the air, met with an oppressive silence. Another voice chimed in, skeptical and cautious. "Do you think he would be here?" The question was met with a snort from someone else. "I mean, he’s supposed to end up in hell, right?" The assumption seemed to be shared by many, and soon, voices were raised in agreement and disagreement. Some people agreed that they were in a good place, while there are those that disagreed. Sun and Ella, fortunately had ended up together. They couldn’t understand the situation either. But unlike the rest, they had decided not to say anything and just watch things unfold. They knew that Dave had sent his hybrid to deactivate the bombs. But everything had happened so fast, so they were not sure if the bomb ended up exploding or not. As for Peter and his two friends, they took as well, have no idea what was going on, or why they’re in here. They could only think about what was said, maybe they were indeed in heaven, but the darkness just doesn’t make sense. And yet, even if it was hell, there was no fire. Among those that disagreed that they weren’t in heaven, a fellow had decided to speak up. "You guys just keep on shouting. Does this look like we’re in heaven?!" He yelled, clearly frustrated by everyone’s argument. "Everywhere is dark, so we must be in hell, which means that crazy killer must be here as well." But not everyone was convinced. An older man’s voice cut through the din, his tone measured and calm. "Hey, hold on. As much as your conclusion is right, based on where we are, I vehemently disagree with the fact that this is hell." His words were met with a mixture of curiosity and hostility. "I’m not a criminal like you guys," he continued, his voice firm. "So, I believe that I’m not in hell. You guys are the ones in hell." The younger man’s voice was laced with indignation as he challenged the older man’s assertion. "What did you just say, old man?" he sneered, his tone dripping with disdain. "Are you saying you’re innocent and we’re not? Are you seriously judging us right now? Isn’t that a sin? Yet, you think you’re in heaven?" The older man’s assertion sparked a heated debate, with some defending their own moral righteousness and others accusing him of hypocrisy. The darkness seemed to fuel their emotions, and soon, their voices were raised in a cacophony of arguments and counterarguments. The older man’s face twisted in anger as he tried to pinpoint the source of the voice. "You brat, how dare you call me an old man," he growled, his words barely out of his mouth before he lunged forward. He managed to grab the younger man’s face, his fingers closing around his ears. The younger man yelped in pain as the older man started to pull his ears, the sound echoing through the darkness. But the younger man was not one to back down. He retaliated by grabbing the older man’s face, his fingers digging deep into his skin as he pulled his ears in return. The two men grunted and snarled, their faces twisted in pain and anger. The people nearby could only imagine the struggle unfolding in the darkness, the sounds of grunting and snarling painting a vivid picture in their minds. One of them couldn’t help but comment, their voice laced with sarcasm, "So much for a person in heaven." The remark was met with snickers and chuckles from some, but the tension in the air remained palpable. As the two men continued to grapple in the darkness, their grunts and snarls filling the air, a woman’s voice cut through the chaos. "What about the guy that saved us?" she asked, her tone laced with curiosity. "He’s a good guy, right? At least from what we saw him do. Could he be here with us?" The question hung in the air, and another voice chimed in, "I wonder." The uncertainty was palpable as they pondered the possibility of Dave’s presence. "But what the heck is this place?" someone else asked, frustration evident in their tone. "It’s not heaven or hell, so what in the afterlife is this?" Meanwhile, the humans’ antics were mirrored by the beasts, who had also been transported into the void. The creatures, which had been ferociously battling moments before, had instantly ceased their fighting as they found themselves in the dark, unfamiliar surroundings. Instead, they began to growl, their low, panicked sounds echoing through the space. Tasha, still strapped to the stretcher, stirred, her eyes fluttering open as she caught the distant sound of voices. "What is that sound?" she wondered, her mind foggy. "Are those beast sounds?" She strained to pinpoint the location of the noises, but the darkness was absolute, making it impossible to discern anything. As she lay there, helpless and immobile, Tasha realized that her situation was precarious. She needed human assistance to free herself, but the only sounds she had heard so far were the growls of the beasts. Her previous screams had gone unanswered, and shouting now might attract unwanted attention. She couldn’t imagine what will become of her if she was to shout and gain the attention of the beasts. The thought of this sent a shiver down her spine, and she remained silent, her ears straining to pick up any sound that might indicate the presence of a potential rescuer.
