Among the chaos, he still hadn’t seen Kim Hyun, the man he was told to look for, the one with the red mask. The supposed leader of this entire base. The ghost behind the curtain. And then there was the bomb. The system had warned him about it, but offered no clarity on its location or if it had already been triggered. For all he knew, the countdown could already be ticking. Fighting these idiots? It was nothing but a distraction and a waste of time. He needed to finish this quickly, and find his wives before it was too late. Two more masked men stepped into view, their blades drawn and charging with reckless aggression. Their swords sliced through the air in desperate arcs, but Dave didn’t flinch. What flinched was his rifle which had barked twice. Bang. Bang. Two clean shots, and two bodies could be seen hitting the ground. He didn’t miss a single shot, which shows how impressive his shooting skill was. It didn’t matter how wildly they swung, how erratically they moved, his bullets always found their mark. Precision was his language, and death was fluent in it. The remaining masked men, now wide-eyed and drenched in panic, hesitated. One glanced at the corpses littering the ground. Another took a shaky step back. Then, like frightened rats fleeing a sinking ship, they turned and bolted toward the building. "Cowards!" Dave said and then he started moving. He vanished from his position in a blur of motion. Dust spiraled in the space he left behind, and when he reappeared, he was already at the building’s entrance. He had his gun raised and an unreadable expression on his face. The cowards barely had time to gasp as Dave pulled the trigger. Again. And again. And again. Each shot rang out like a final judgment, as each body of the men fell with a thud that seemed to silence the very wind. Within seconds, the entrance was carpeted with corpses. The charge had failed. The retreat had failed. And now, only one remained. The burly man who had led the masked men. He stood a few feet away, with a tensed shoulder, visible sweat could be seen glistening down his temples. His massive arms wrapped around a trembling woman, her eyes wide with horror. His blade pressed firmly against her throat, a thin line of blood already glistening where the edge had broken skin. The burly man’s hand shook, not with anger, but of fear. Real, gut-deep fear. His initial composed self had disappeared and was now replaced with a nervous self. "You-- you killed them all. What are you, who are you! Are you a cop? The military? But you’re so young? Are you a spy?" The man continued to ask several questions, it was the only thing he could do to calm himself down. The woman trembled like a leaf caught in a storm, her breathing shallow and uneven. Her eyes, wide and glossy with terror, locked onto Dave’s as if silently pleading for rescue. The burly man’s massive arms were wrapped around her, holding her in place like a vice. His blade hovered dangerously close to her throat, and already, a thin crimson line traced along her skin where the edge had begun to bite. One more slip and it could sever something vital, an artery, her voice, her life. The man’s hands were shaking. Not from rage, but from a deep, paralyzing fear that rooted itself in his gut and rose up to strangle his composure. The confidence he’d worn like armor minutes ago had crumbled, leaving behind a wide-eyed, sweating mess of nerves. "You--you killed them all," he stammered, his voice hitching with disbelief. "What are you? Who are you?! Are you with the cops? The military? No, no, you’re too young. Are you some kind of spy?" The questions poured out of him like water from a broken dam. They weren’t meant for answers, just a desperate attempt to make sense of the nightmare in front of him. To delay the inevitable. Dave said nothing. He instinctively lowered his rifle to finish the job, only to feel the empty click of the trigger. Out of bullets. Just great. Without hesitation, he dropped the gun and scanned the ground, spotting a blood-stained sword lying beside one of the corpses. He stooped, snatched it up, and looked back to the hostage situation. The woman’s legs buckled as she whimpered, her chin tilted back awkwardly against the blade. The steel had begun slicing deeper, a slow creep toward something fatal. Dave moved. One blink he was here, the next minute he was gone. Wind rushed where he once stood. Then, like a ghost materializing from thin air, he appeared behind the burly man. In one clean motion, he seized the man’s arm, yanking it backward at an unnatural angle. The woman slipped free and collapsed to her knees, gasping for air. The man roared and struggled, but Dave didn’t budge. His grip was unyielding, his strength unnatural. Like iron wrapped in flesh. No matter how the man twisted or slammed his body, he couldn’t break free. With a swift twist, Dave then punch him on the face. His fist smashed into the man’s jaw with bone-crunching force. The impact sent him soaring through the air like a ragdoll, his limbs flailing. He landed hard, skidding across the floor before slamming spine-first into the wall with a sickening thud. The man groaned, the breath knocked clean out of him. But before he could recover, Dave was already there. He stood over him, grabbed a fistful of his collar, and yanked him up by the throat with one hand. The man dangled, feet barely brushing the floor. Dave’s voice was like ice. "Where is your boss, Kim Hyun?" The man’s eyes darted left and right. He clenched his jaw. Wrong answer. Dave’s grip tightened. Veins bulged in the man’s forehead. He gagged and clawed at Dave’s arm. With no escape, he finally raised a trembling hand and pointed toward the looming building behind them. "Which floor?" Dave demanded. The man weakly lifted three fingers. Third floor. Before he could say another word, before he could even think, Dave rammed the sword into his gut with brutal efficiency. The man’s eyes went wide. He coughed, blood splattering down his chin. Dave let him fall. Without looking back, he turned toward the building. His mission wasn’t done yet.
