Chapter 160: CH 160: Punish them?The three guards’ eyes widened as they recalled the description given to them about the leader. A brown, curly hair, a heart-shaped face, and a sharp jawline that made him look old yet young at the same time - the man before them seemed to fit the description perfectly. They also remembered the distinctive clothes they were told the leader would wear. Though, they were told not to rely so much on that, as it might have been changed before he returned, but surprisingly, the attire that Dave currently had on was the same as the one described to them. As they pieced together the description and matched it with the man before them, a realization dawned on them. The match was almost perfect, and a sense of dread crept over them. "Bryn, is there a chance that this fellow before us is the leader, and we might have just gone a long way to offend the leader?" the lead guard asked his fellow guards, his voice barely above a whisper. His knees shook slightly, betraying his growing unease. Bryn’s response was laced with a mix of fear and resignation. "With everything we’ve done so far, yes, we’ve definitely offended the leader. We had done nothing but the complete opposite of what we planned for. We’re in a deep shit." The words hung in the air, heavy with implication. Suddenly, the three guards could be seen shaking, not out of fear of what they did, but out of fear of what might happen to them next. Just then, Jackie’s voice boomed from behind them, his words piercing the air like a lash. "Are you guys dumb? Can’t you see that everyone is bowing down to the leader in front of you? Go on your knees and apologize for your mistakes, now and before!" The guards’ eyes dashed towards Jackie, and then back to Dave, their faces pale with realization. As if Jackie’s words had managed to snap them out of their daze, the guards immediately dropped to their knees, their heads bowing in unison. They pressed their foreheads to the ground, their bodies trembling with fear and apology. The sound of their knees hitting the ground echoed through the air, a stark contrast to the silence that had preceded it. The guards’ voices rose in unison, their words tumbling out in a frantic apology. "Please leader! We’re so sorry, we didn’t mean to push you out! We didn’t know you were the leader!" Their bodies were shaking with fear and remorse. "We’ve gone way out of our boundaries. Please, forgive us!" they shouted again, their voices cracking with desperation. Jackie’s voice cut through the guards’ pleas, his tone measured and serious. "Please leader, I plead on their behalf. They are only just new recruits who had just unlocked their full powers, so they didn’t recognize your face. Yet, they disrespected you, so we can’t let it just slide like that, we should give them the rightful punishment they deserve." His words hung in the air, a stark contrast to the guards’ abject apologies. As Jackie spoke, Dave slid off the beast he rode on, his movements fluid and deliberate. He took a step forward, his boots crunching on the ground, and then another, his eyes fixed on the guards. The guards’ eyes followed him, their faces pale with fear. "Fuck, we’re doomed!" they screamed silently, their minds racing with worst-case scenarios. Dave’s footsteps slowed as he carefully approached them, his eyes piercing the guards’ bent forms. Then he stopped just a few meters away from them, his gaze lingering on their bowed heads. The air was heavy with tension, and Dave could almost hear the guards’ heartbeats pounding loudly in their chests, like drums beating out a rhythm of fear and submission. The silence stretched out, oppressive and suffocating, as Dave’s eyes bore into the guards’ bent forms. A soft chuckle escaped Dave’s lips, and he spoke up, his voice low and measured. "Why should I punish them?" The question hung in the air, not directed at anyone in particular. "They didn’t do anything wrong," he continued, his eyes scanning the guards’ bent forms. Dave then begin to speak, while still crouching near the guards. "I heard all of your discussions," he said, his voice low and soothing. "You were only performing your duty to protect this place. If I wanted to kill you, I would have done that before you could even attempt to transform." The guards shivered, their bodies trembling with fear as they absorbed Dave’s words. Did he meant what he just said? That he could have killed them? They couldn’t help but imagine the enormity of Dave’s power, the ease with which he could have used to end all of their lives. There must be a reason why he was made the leader, they thought, their minds racing with questions and doubts. And they had came to realize that maybe all of the rumors about him were true after all. They heard of how he had bested all of the powerful people in the merger faction. Additionally, he had defeated the group of Tai Faction army who had came to attack the base that night. And he had done it so easily, all alone by himself. They couldn’t help but wonder, what kind of monster was he? As they lifted their heads slightly, they caught glimpses of the people standing behind Dave. The group of people with him seemed to radiate an aura of power, their presence imposing and intimidating. The guards couldn’t help but think of them as minions, loyal only to Dave. And if they were his minions, then it meant they must at least be on an almost similar level to Dave. The guards’ minds reeled as they imagined what would have happened if they had faced these people. Their fate would have been sealed before they could even realize what they were doing. The thought sent a chill down their spines, and they trembled with fear, their bodies pressed to the ground in submission.
