Chapter 38 - Camilla and Sandra's encounter Why would she be here? Dismay filled Sandra's eyes. Was she talking to her in a mistress's attitude? " Miss Rodriguez just got married into the Luther Family a few days ago, you probably don't know it," As she gazed upon Camilla's stunning face, suppressing the anger rising from within her heart, she replied with a smile. "I have grown up with Sinclair since we were children, and I have visited the Luther Estate countless times. I am incredibly familiar with every blade of grass and trees here, there is no place where I'm not allowed to go." Between the lines, her words were filled with profound implication. "That's not what I meant," A cold snicker rose from Camilla's heart, yet her face maintained its impressive. "It's just... considering how Sinclair treated young Miss Porter last, I was under the impression that Miss Porter would be aggrieved and wouldn't visit the Luther Family again. It seems that I misunderstood." A slight smirk tugged at the corners of her red lips. "Miss Rodriguez, your emotional resilience is stronger than I ever thought." Upon hearing those words, Sandra's fists clenched tightly, and the words that she had deliberately forgotten suddenly echoed in her mind. "If Miss Porter dares to pester me again, I can do things a hundred, even a thousand times worse than this." "In front of my wife, you dare to utter such words. Isn't there any sense of propriety, justice, integrity, or honor in the rules of the Porter family?" Her face chilled at a visibly discernible speed. "Camilla, do you dare to mock me?" "Mock you?" Camilla tilted her head, her eyes curved in innocence. "It seems Miss Porter knows she is indeed laughable." She definitely wouldn't tolerate anyone who coveted her own husband and harbored hostility towards her. The first time it happens, there will be countless times after. She must make her second life worthwhile. Spoken softly yet sounds like a resounding slap on Sandra's face. As the rightful daughter of the Porter family. Ever since she was a child, regardless of where she is, she was always the apple of everyone's eyes. Apart from Sinclair, no one has ever dared to displease her. Even more, no one has dared to ridicule her in person like Camilla is doing now. "Camilla, you are nothing but a bumpkin from the outskirts of the city. Grandpa Luther and Sinclair merely granted you the position of Mrs. Luther out of respect for the engagement," Sandra took two steps forward, her face expressing wrath, her gaze sharp. "Don't you dare think that just because you've managed to climb up to the Luther Family, you could suddenly turn into a phoenix from a sparrow?" Her voice was filled with undisguised scorn and triumph. "I'll tell you, a lowly bird will always be a lowly bird." "A lowly bird?" Camilla's pupils slightly sank. She slowly stood up, her beautiful eyes fixed on the furious Sandra. "If I'm a lowly bird, wouldn't that make Ms. Porter even lower than a lowly bird?" Her voice became softer, but the smile on her lips only grew wider. "After all, the man you desire and the status you covet, I've effortlessly acquired." Her words were as sharp as a dagger, striking directly at the heart. "You little wretch—" Sandra pointed at Camilla, her beautiful visage grotesquely distorted with extreme anger. Camilla quietly observed Sandra, her radiant eyes unfathomable. Blinded by rage, Sandra noticed the large artificial lake behind Camilla and was about to push her into it. Suddenly, her attention was drawn to several figures approaching from a distance, and a malicious glint flickered in her eyes. She took a step forward, deliberately closing in on Camilla, grabbing Camilla's hand. "Camilla, you wait for me--" With her words lingering in the air, she prepared to impersonate the semblance of being pushed into the lake by Camilla. Camilla, closely observing Sandra's actions and a particular glint in her eyes, knew what she was up to. Her beautiful eyes slightly narrowed. "Miss Porter, what are you doing?!" Accompanying the stunned woman's voice was a resounding splash. "Plop--" Camilla looked at Sandra, frozen on the shore, a mocking smirk hid beneath the surface of her shocked gaze. Only by walking in the shoes of a schemer can one leave the schemer with no path to tread. "You--" Sandra looked at Camilla struggling in the lake, her beautiful eyes filled with unbelievable anger. Could this woman possibly know what she was up to? And beat her to it? "Help...I can't swim..." Camilla's hand was thrashing wildly in the water, her exquisite face filled with fear. "Grandfather....save me!!" "Camilla!!" Grandpa Luther widened his eyes, standing still in shock, and started to walk towards the lake. "Carlos, quick, call for help!!" If it weren't for his physical condition, he would have wanted to jump into the lake to rescue her himself. "Yes!" Uncle Carlos turned around and hurriedly walked away. Hearing grandpa Luther's voice, Sandra was startled, her pupils suddenly contracted, and she regained her senses. She quickly walked up to Grandpa Porter, grabbing his arm with a face full of urgency. "Grandpa, I didn't push her. This woman jumped off by herself..." Grandpa Porter, looked at Camilla struggling in the lake, then at his own granddaughter. His usually gentle face became clouded, as if he was about to drip water. "Shut up!!" From their point of view, it was his granddaughter who had pushed the woman into the water. What really happened was no longer important. Sandra was silenced by her grandfather's whispering rebuke, turning pale with fright. Noticing a figure quickly approaching from not far away, her face tightened in panic, and she hurriedly went up to meet him. "Sinclair, don't believe her. She really jumped off by herself. I didn't touch her." "Move aside," Sinclair swept his cold gaze towards Sandra, his eyes full of unfathomable chill. "I will settle this matter with Miss Sandra later." The ruthlessness in the man's eyes left Sandra feeling suffocated deep down. "Thump," Sinclair removed his own blazer, threw it aside, and subsequently dived directly into the lake. Moments later, he swam to Camilla's side. "Hubby--" Camilla's tear-filled eyes, full of grievance, were directed at Sinclair. She looked so pitiful, one couldn't help but feel compassion. An inexplicable emotion flashed through Sinclair's heart. "Don't be afraid," He wrapped one arm around her waist, swimming towards the shore. "Hold tight to me." His low and husky voice echoed beside Camilla's ear, providing an indescribable sense of security. Camilla bit her lip and clung to the man's neck. From this moment on, she decided to completely forget that she knows how to swim. The two quickly reached the shore. "Camilla" grandpa Luther, looked anxiously at Camilla, his eyes full of concern. "Are you okay? Did you hit anywhere?" Beneath this artificial lake, there are plenty of sharp reefs. "It's okay, Grandpa, I'm not injured," Camilla found herself curling up in Sinclair's arms, guiltily looking at the elderly man standing in front of them, his face full of worry. "You don't have to worry." Though those were her words, she couldn't stop her body from trembling. Of course, she wasn't doing this to earn anyone's sympathy; she was just too cold. Despite it being midsummer, the feeling of the wind blowing on her soaked clothing was far from comfortable. "Grandpa, I'll take her back to the room first." Sinclair picked up a coat that was discarded nearby, wrapped it around Camilla, and carried her towards the room. "Sinclair," Sandra stood against Sinclair's way, her face unwilling as she stared harshly at Camilla. "You need to hear me out--" Seeing Sandra, Camilla, buried her entire face into Sinclair's chest. She appeared to be quite terrified. But only Camilla knew that she was worried about the corners of her mouth, raised in a smirk, being discovered. Noticing the movements of the woman in his arms, Sinclair's pupils deepened while looking at Sandra, his lips parted slightly. "Get lost!" Sinclair's thin lips barely moved, yet the words that came out were tinged with a chilling harshness. A flash of displeasure flickered in Grandpa Porter's eyes. However, it did seem to be his granddaughter's fault this time, so he couldn't find words to argue. Grandpa Luther remained silent, the vague ambiguity of emotion hiding within the depths of his aged and profound eyes. Sometimes, silence in itself was an attitude. "Sinclair" Sandra, frightened by Sinclair's icy disposition, remained frozen on the spot, but her eyes were filled with an undeclared resentment. "It was really she who fell into the lake, it's not related to me." Sinclair remained indifferent as he held Camilla, continuing on his way indoors. Sandra stopped him once again, her flushed eyes not daring to meet those icy black pupils, and stared intensely at the Camilla held in Sinclair's arms. "Camilla, you must clarify this for me!" Sinclair looked at Sandra, his unfathomable eyes were filled with cold hues. Quite clearly, this was a sign that his patience was wearing thin. Grandpa Luther pursed his lips, and the joy and anger in his ancient deep eyes were indistinguishable. Grandpa Porter looked at his granddaughter with a sense of helplessness and headache. Just as he was about to speak, a feeble gentle voice echoed in the air. "My husband, Miss Porter is right," Her voice was weak as Camilla lifted her head from Sinclair's arms. "I fell down by myself. She did not push me." While speaking, she desperately clung to the front of Sinclair's shirt, her beautiful pale face showing fear. Had the remark remained unspoken, it would have been bearable. But the statement now not only appeared as even more obvious cover-up but also made it seem as though Sandra was taking advantage of her position to oppress others. Grandpa Porter glanced at the depths of Camilla's eyes, showing a glimmer of sharpness. Camilla seemed to perceive something and buried her face back into Sinclair's embrace. The coldness filled her beautiful eyes. If she had not been on her guard, it might have been Sandra who had fallen into the lake. Unlike Sandra, she had neither the major Porter family nor grandpa Porter to back her up. Despite Grandpa Luther adored her, in witnessing this episode, forced by grandpa Porter's presence, he could only make her apologize to Sandra, hoping to brush the matter under the rug. But she was absolutely not going to apologize to Sandra. "Husband?" Sinclair looked down at the person in his arms, his handsome face undecipherable. No issues, call him Sinclair. If there is a problem, then hubby? "Did you hear that, Sinclair?" Sandra wasn't conscious of the time, she was more focused on Sinclair. "She admitted that she fell down by herself, it has nothing to do with me, you have to believe me..." However, before she could finish her sentence, she was interrupted by a gruff of laughter. "Sandra, shut up for me!" Sandra turned her head, looking with a wronged expression at the person who spoke, Grandpa Porter. "Grandpa--" After Grandpa Porter gave a warning glance at his own granddaughter, he shifted his gaze to Sinclair, his expression much softer than before. "Sinclair, first take this girl to change her clothes, don't let her catch a cold, we'll be waiting for you in the living room." "Hmm," Sinclair didn't look at Grandpa Porter, he carried the person and walked towards the room. Sandra watched the man's tall figure carrying the person away. She bit her lip tightly, and her tears fell uncontrollably. " Grandpa Luther." Grandpa Porter glanced at Grandpa Luther with regret. "Sandra is a child you've watched grow up. She's always been a bit reckless," he turned his gaze to Sandra. "Apologize to Grandpa Luther." Caught in this situation, Sandra felt wronged, but she couldn't express her thoughts. She hung her head, about to say something. But Grandpa Luther's voice rang out before her.
