Meanwhile, Calvin wrapped an arm around Annie’s slender waist, tilting his head to sip the wine she held to his lips. The private booth gradually filled with a sultry, intoxicating atmosphere. Her plump, crimson lips inched closer to his with deliberate slowness. Calvin neither leaned in nor pulled away. His faintly upturned eyes regarded the approaching woman with detached amusement, his cool lips curling into an inscrutable half-smile. Every inch of him exuded an untouchable arrogance, languid yet commanding. Annie’s beautiful eyes flickered. What a breathtakingly handsome man. But there was no helping it—the payout was simply too high. Just as her lips were about to brush against Calvin’s, a sudden sharpness flashed in her gaze. In one fluid motion, her hand darted to the outer side of her thigh, retrieving a gleaming dagger before slashing toward his neck. The ambush unfolded in a heartbeat. Aria, who had been keeping Lucas company, noticed nothing. Even the bodyguards behind Calvin were a fraction too slow to react. "President Calvin—!" "Mr. Calvin, look out!!" Yet Calvin seemed to have anticipated Annie’s move all along. His hand, which had been propping up his chin, shot out and seized her wrist holding the dagger, twisting it sharply with brutal force. "Ahh!" A pained cry escaped Annie’s lips as her grip loosened, sending the dagger clattering to the ground. The bodyguards behind Calvin surged forward, only to be blocked by Lucas’s men. Within seconds, both sides were locked in a violent scuffle, completely occupied with their own battles. Aria finally snapped out of her shock, her mouth opening in a silent scream. "Pretty thing," Lucas clamped a rough hand over Annie’s mouth, his voice a venomous whisper against her ear. "Make one sound, and I’ll snap your neck like a twig. Understood?" Such an exquisite Eastern beauty deserved to be savored before being disposed of. "Mmmph... mmm!" Trembling with terror, Annie nodded frantically. The entire confrontation had unfolded in the blink of an eye. How could this be?! Annie couldn’t believe that this playboy-like man had reacted so swiftly. She quickly reached out with her other hand to grab the dagger. But Calvin was even faster. His slender, well-defined fingers closed around the blade, and in one fluid motion, he drove it straight into Annie’s heart from behind. Thick, crimson blood gushed from the wound, soaking Calvin’s hand and staining Annie’s red dress even darker. Annie’s pupils contracted sharply as she stared into that exquisitely handsome face before her. Her own striking features twisted in shock and terror. In all her years as an assassin, she had never failed a mission. Never had she been caught so completely off guard. Seeing that Calvin was unharmed, Aria exhaled in quiet relief, though she remained frozen in place, too afraid to move lest she draw attention to herself. The bodyguards from both sides were still locked in combat. Calvin’s men were highly paid mercenaries, but their opponents were clearly professional assassins as well. Every strike was lethal, every move calculated to kill. Lucas’s brow furrowed deeply, his dark eyes glinting with cold fury as they fixed on Calvin. "I must say, Mr. Calvin," he remarked icily, "your skills are... unexpected." If not for the stringent security checks at this club—making it impossible to smuggle firearms inside—he wouldn’t have had to go to such lengths. "Flattery won’t save you," Calvin replied coolly, shoving Annie’s lifeless body to the floor. Calvin pulled a handkerchief from his pocket and methodically wiped the blood from his fingers. "Now," Calvin lifted his gaze, his thin lips curling into a smirk that didn’t quite reach his eyes. "The real Mr. Lucas—where is he?" The imposter calling himself Lucas froze, the calm facade on his face crumbling in an instant. Lucas had never shown his face in public—how could this man have seen through him?! Aria shuddered beside him. The man standing next to her had been a fraud all along?! "Surprised?" Noticing the tension in the imposter, Calvin’s smile deepened. "Didn’t your handler tell you? The real Mr. Lucas doesn’t like women." Bringing a woman along was always just for show. Calvin had only kept Aria by his side to test that very fact. After all, Lucas had never once revealed himself to outsiders. They couldn’t afford to be careless. "SHIT!" The fake Lucas’s face twisted in fury, his hands clenching into tight fists at his sides. "You’re clever, I’ll give you that. But it won’t help—the guards outside have already been removed." In a sudden burst of movement, he launched himself off the couch, lunging toward Calvin with terrifying speed. "Once you step into this room, you’re never walking out again!" Calvin’s expression remained unreadable. The moment things had gone sideways, he’d known there was a traitor in his ranks. The disappearance of his men was hardly a surprise. Aria, seeing ’Lucas’ move, scrambled behind the sofa in panic, trembling uncontrollably. Right now, survival was all she could think about. "Die—!" ’Lucas’ swung his fist in a vicious arc, aiming straight for Calvin’s temple. His movements were sharp, brutal—completely at odds with his slightly pudgy frame.
