Tiffany recalled the first time she’d encountered Calvin—when his car had hit her, leaving her with a fractured bone. Their second encounter wasn’t any better; she’d accidentally crashed into his car while wrestling for control of a steering wheel. Definitely not something she could share. "I care about you so much," Marie said, feigning annoyance when Tiffany remained silent. "And you’re still keeping secrets from me?" "Of course not," Tiffany sighed, softening her tone. "Calvin’s not just into me—he’s head over heels for me. Happy now?" Before Marie could respond, Tiffany turned her attention to the private room door ahead. "Alright, enough talking. We’re here." Only then did Marie realize they had already arrived at the private room. She quickly smoothed out both Tiffany’s and her own clothes before pushing the door open and stepping inside. The dim lighting of the room made it hard to see clearly at first. Tiffany’s eyes took a moment to adjust, but she could still make out the figures of several people seated inside. A middle-aged woman in a striped shirt frowned the moment he spotted them. "What took you so long? Director Jayden has been waiting forever!" "Editor Jade, Director Jayden we’re so sorry, truly," Marie quickly stepped in front of Tiffany, bowing repeatedly with an apologetic smile. "There was some traffic on the way." "Don’t let it happen again," Editor Jade shot them a sharp look before gesturing toward Tiffany and turning to the young man beside him. The man wore a black hoodie and a baseball cap, his features unremarkable. "Director Jayden, this is our company’s star writer—also the author of the book. Her name is—" "Tiffany," the young man in the baseball cap cut in, lifting his gaze to meet hers with a faint smile before Editor Jade could finish. "Long time no see." His face showed no trace of surprise—clearly, he’d known all along. Editor Jade: "You two know each other?" Marie: "Again?" "Senior Jayden?" Tiffany’s startled expression carried an edge of discomfort. This man was two years her senior, someone she’d met during volunteer activities. Jayden had pursued her relentlessly for quite some time. Back then, wherever she appeared, his presence seemed to follow. Even after she’d mentioned having a boyfriend, he hadn’t backed off—if anything, his behavior had grown more intense. Jayden’d even shown up in her elective courses, sitting in the corner of the classroom just to watch her. The whole ordeal had left her deeply unsettled. Thankfully, she’d always stuck close to Camilla, so nothing worse had happened. The harassment had dragged on for most of the semester, only ending when he graduated and left campus. Never in her wildest dreams had Tiffany imagined she’d cross paths with him again. The man in the baseball cap curled his lips slightly, his gaze fixed on her as he smiled. "I didn’t expect you to still remember me, junior." Tiffany smiled faintly without responding. Truth be told, she wished she could forget—if only it were that easy. "Since you two already know each other, that makes things even better," Editor Jade glanced at the people seated beside Jayden and waved dismissively. "You all, move to another table." Turning back to Tiffany, he grinned. "Tiffany, take this seat. Perfect chance to catch up with Director Jayden" "But I—" Tiffany opened her mouth to refuse, but Editor Jade had already grabbed her arm and guided her into the chair. Luckily, Marie sat down beside her, which eased her nerves a little. "Senior Jayden, shall we discuss the adaptation now?" All Tiffany wanted was to wrap up the business talk and leave as soon as possible. "No rush," Jayden gazed at Tiffany with a faint smile, his dark eyes unreadable. "Old friends reunite after all this time—let’s toast to that first." Calvin pushed forward one of the two untouched glasses of liquor on the table toward her. "Sorry, Senior," Tiffany accepted the glass but didn’t drink. "I don’t drink." The smile on Jayden’s lips faltered slightly. Editor Jade frowned and quickly shot Marie a meaningful look. "My apologies, Director Jayden" Marie picked up the other full glass on the table with a bright smile. "Fanny really can’t handle alcohol. Let me drink with you instead." "Fine," Jayden’s grin returned, his tone almost too agreeable. "But we play by the rules—if you’re drinking for someone else, it’s three glasses minimum." Without hesitation, he downed his own drink in one go.
