Noticing the change in Mrs. Porter’s expression, he felt the tension between them eased considerably. "The tea is ready," Mrs. Porter said, having steeped it to perfection. She adjusted the temperature before handing a cup to Mr. Porter and settling onto the sofa with her own. "Let’s drink to our freedom." With that, she took the first sip. He poured himself another cup of tea and took a slow sip. "Then say what you need to say. Quickly."
